With so many complaints about the various online connection issues in GT5, I was wondering what the proportion of good to bad is among the GT Planet community.
Please vote, & let's find out!

I voted for great. Couple of months ago I would have voted for perfect because I've never ever lagged, but it's happened a couple of times now and my connection is solid.

Same situation. My PS3 is connected by wire, so I can't really say I've ever bee host to a room with bad connection.
 
I voted great.

Wired connection. I've been disconnected only once or twice in two years and almost always have a very solid lag free connection. The series I race in includes NA, EU, and AUS racers and we have minimal lag and the disconnects seem to occur to the same few people.

Voted awesome but meant to vote great. Wireless connection with very, very little problems at all. And, I would like to point that out to all the people that say wireless is garbage and always lags, that is not true at all. I even have my phone and my XBox running on the same wireless connection with no problems from any device. Back about a year ago, I used to host full Daytona rooms with no problem unless it was someone else who had a bad connection. So, not all wireless connections are bad. You just have to have a good router and have it setup properly.
 
I used to be wireless & had very few problems either. Since going wired, I've noticed a huge improvement when watching online races though, they're much less laggy. Also, my download on my wireless PC is 9mb, but on my wired PS3 it's 14mb, so I guess wireless is faster.
 
Mine is Good with a wired connection. I get disconnected from server message once in a while or freeze in the garage, but for full day racing on weekends, I think that's pretty good. đź‘Ť
 
Game has been out 2 years, I've DC'd.....less than 5 times?

Great connection 99% of the time. I think most people that have issues, it's on their end with their connection and has nothing to do with the servers...

Most likely their connection/router set-up is still on factories default settings.
I happen to have my PS3 connected by wire simply because I want to direct all the juice into it. But even when the wife is on youtube, facebook and etc...we both still get a very decent connection.

The quality of the connection in GT5 is really great. Now, the quality of the rooms I usually end up in, it's a different story for a different kind of thread.

This is what I see. One of the regulars in my room has as his greeting “$10 says I’ll get disc onnected”, and he often does.

He needs to upgrade his hardware then.
 
I voted terrible. For every room I stay in successfully, I get disconnected from 3, and I can't make it a wired connection because that would be too cumbersome.
 
Mine runs extremely smooth to be honest.
I remember back in the day I would have trouble, but ever since I switched to wired internet, not 1 problem.
 
Good, works great most of the time, but some disconnections here and there.
 
I've been running on wireless for ages and with my old D-Link router it worked perfectly. The only lag and disconnections I encountered were in 'bad' lobbies (where nearly everyone gets disconnected at the same time). However when my broadband was upgraded to 60MB a new 'superhub' was installed. It has decent range and for phones, laptops, printers etc it works great, but it's hit and miss with the PS3.
After the 2.08 and 2.09 updates the lagging became a lot worse but strangely I got fewer disconnections in lobbies. I also very rarely experience strange handling, such as extremely long stopping distances, which I assume is from lag.
 
I would say good going on great. I used to have a few issues here and there, but recently it has been great. đź‘Ť
 
Awhile back I would have voted awful because of the many black screens. Recently I have had no problems at all. Only thing is some people not being able to see each other some times.
 
I personally find it varies quite a lot, although this could be attributed to isp throttling, this theory doesn't hold true because I've never had this level of problems with any other game I've played. With this in mind, I can only attach blame to PD's severs.
I quite regularly get into a room, after 30 seconds people will get 'loading' lines under their names and a further 15 seconds or so before I get dumped out. There's also too many occasions to mention where I've stayed in the room but have been unable to see other players on circuit, sometimes even people in my friends list.
I'm hardwired, 20mb broadband (avg. rate 13mb) and on NAT 2. (tried NAT 1, that was even less reliable)
 
I think the internet and Gran Turismo is conspiring against me. When the day comes around when I have no homework, or I finish early, the first thing I do is play GT5. Occasionally, if both he and I are available, my Dad and I will play GT5 online together. Well recently, every night both he and I have been avalible, my GT lounge has been acting up and won't allow us to connect. When only I can play, I can connect fine. When we play Black Ops or any other game where you can play online, we connect fine. It's weird.....
 
I just got disconnected from my lobby as it filled up.
Started a new one, emailed my friends and as they started to join I got disconnected again.
Started another new one and before anyone joined I got disconnected again.

I did a speed test each time I got disconnected and they all seemed ok.

Peak speeds were 20.6Mbps and 3.6Mbps.

These are pretty typacal for my connection. I Don't know what is going on.
 
I voted great. There's only a couple of bugs that prevent me from voting awesome, one being that sometimes friends don't appear as playing GT5 on the in game friend's list, where you have to enter the public lobby screen, then exit back out in order for it to refresh the list.

Apart from that, I experience no lag and loading screens always run quick and smoothly. No problems with updates either, they actually download about 3 times quicker than what they install, but then again...

And as a Christmas present, my ISP is giving me an extra 20MB/s for free as part of their speed increase plan.
 
I voted "great", because I've had some black-screen "experience". I haven't really ever had any issues connecting.

Wow! That is great. There is no way (that I know of) that I could get a connection that fast here in Houston Texas.

I pay $51.95 (ÂŁ32.72) a month, what do you pay?
 
I gave up on the online portion of this game because of the issues. 10+ minute load screens, dropped from races over and over... The last time I played online for an hour and I think I got maybe two laps in. In an hour.
I am happy for the rest of you, though.
 
I'm having nothing but problems

I'm getting incompatibility with host with my friends, when I finally do manage to get in they can't hear my mic for more than 5 seconds before it cuts out permanently until I rejoin the room.

Once everything finally gets working and we start the race I start lagging, to the point I once knocked a friend of mine backwards on the start line, before the countdown had even began.

She started a few hundred meters back up the road and had to catch up.

It's been an absolute nightmare and the only thing stopping me just giving up is the fact it worked fine a month ago or so.

I have a 6.8 down speed and a 800 kb/s up speed according to the ps3, so I'd expect it to at the very least be playable. As of now, it's anything but. /endrant

EDIT: I've tried literally everything I can think of, from clearing my cache to replacing my router. Absolutely nothing on my end seems to change the situation yet I'm the only person I know experiencing this =/

I get that sometimes, never knew there was a work around fix, I'll have to try that next time it happens.

I didn't vote because my Internet is pathetic, as in my ISP is in the stone-age. I live in a small town and you have two options for Internet, Roadrunner DSL, which is terrible (it is never as fast as advertised and takes minutes to stream a video that's 1:00 long). Or, you can buy a 3G mobile hotspot, in which case you're a slave to data limits, which the PS3 eats very quickly. It really sucks, sometimes I feel like I'm living in 2000 on dial-up. Therefore, I have not raced online in over a year. :mad::banghead:

This, pretty much. Rarely have problems myself, every now and then with friends who struggle to join my rooms or lag, but it's mostly caused by distance or them having slow downs. Wireless since day 1 when I got my PS3, used to have problems in my old flat with signal weaknesses, but now it's always a very strong signal.

I guess it just looks like 'a lot' of people complain about connection issues because the people who got their connections work fine don't keep constantly posting about it.
