I logged in just about 15 minutes ago just to find this. All of the Item icons have disappeared. When I try to click on them, the game freezes. I can exit the game, re-enter and the same thing happens, when I go to my items list, there is no icon showing, click on it, it then freezes again. Is my data corrupted ? Am I like the Titanic ..... sunk ?

I can still get into the game and play it, that's about all I can do.

Please ..... send help. :nervous:

edit : now the game is completely frozen .... can't do anything at all. :grumpy::irked::banghead:

Have you been trading recently? That could explain the lost icons. The PS3 could also be a bit dusty.

Those are coupons not cars. If it was just some cars you can easily update the thumbnails by choosing the option for it while in your garage.

Try Defragging your Hard drive.

Pretty sure this still works.

I'll give it a whirl. Thank you for this. 👍

Yes, I trade on a daily basis. I have 2 different accounts that are being used. I do make sure ... 100% positive that I am also using the correct USB for the given account. So I know I did not intertwine these.

Are your car's names still there but not the pictures?

The pics are there, when I try (tried) to click them, the game froze.

There were level tickets and B-Day tickets as well. These were the 1st set of items to dis-appear. Here is what is strange. If I go to the car delivery, I can see my Level and B-Day Tickets and Green Ticket cars as well. When I go to the items list, the name is there, but the icon is missing. When trying to click on them to send ... it freezes up. The car icons in the garage still show up, it's not a thumbnail issue, or I don't think it is. When I click on the given car in the garage, it still freezes up.

It said that it had a corrupted file. It's restoring, hoping it works.

edit - restarted game. I can get into the game again, but I cannot access any of my tickets. The icon is still missing. Same as before, if you click on it, it freezes up. As far as the garage goes, my cars are still there. I can click on them to trade or get into, however, the problem still exists with just the tickets.

edit #2 - tried the defrag and restore procedure again. Same results.

Hmm, i dont trade many tickets so idk what exactly would cause this, if its a problem with the game instead of the system itself. If it were me, i would back my GT5 save data. Then delete my coupons, and hope by deleting them it will erase the problem, and if it does then i would back my save data again.

Ive tried to dig up some more specific information to see if anyone else is having your problem... and my search actually brought this thread up on the first page XD

Sorry, but im all out of suggestions. Hope it resolves itself somehow.

Thank you soooo much for your input. It is appreciated. 👍

The thought of deleting the tickets has crossed my mind :nervous:, but, I cannot get into them to do so. The very second you click the X or any button for that matter on them, instant game freeze.

I'm sorry, but I have to get running here. The wife is ready to kick my rear. Supposed to be Christmas shopping instead. I'll check back later on this.

Thanks guys for your input.

Sorry to hear of your issues mate, silly question but have you tried deleting the GT5 game data and re-installing?

I always disconnect my PS3 from net with any issues what I have with GT5 and almost always it help 👍

I think that this may be a quick answer. It's what I was thinking of when reading this thread.

Also you couldn't have crossed the game saved USB's, because the game PS3 won't let you do that. It gives you a message saying that you can't load another users data.

Also JK83 had a point, I had a lot of issues with my PS3 when playing GT5 wirelessly, I went back wired, problems fixed.

My kid seen some things today that has me thinking. When he logged in, he went to the main menu screen, he clicked on the items list, the same thing appeared ... a gray rectangular box with no icons. Here's the thing he saw. At the bottom of the screen (lower right) he saw where it said "installing". Installing what I wonder ? He attempted to click on a box anyway, it froze up. He logged back in, went to the garage, tried to click on a car, it froze up again. The 3rd time he attempted something, he went to the items list, and all of the icons were missing from the list. He tried clicking on the paint box ... froze up again. It's weird, you can sign in, but the moment you click anything, instant freeze.

I'm not sold on the idea that the PS3 is at fault. It's got to be game data, or something of that nature. In a bit, I think I'll attempt the uninstall / reinstall ... who knows ? Worth a shot, right ?

Yup, tried it last night ... nothing changed. I think I'm screwed.

Question time ......

Is it possible for the USB to contain corrupted data ? The reason for asking this is, I just got a call from somebody who will sell me a 160g PS3 Slim for just $150.00. Hell of a deal I think. This particular unit has less than 5 hrs. run time on it. The guy (friend of mine) says his kid lost interest in it ... he went in favor of an X360. Game stop told him they would give him $100.00 for it, I told him I would give him the $150.00 ..... just because. SOLD !

Back to the point, sorry. Is the possibility there to get this PS3, load my data into it and the game data still be corrupted ?

i had the same problem

FIRST REBUILD ALL YOUR THUMBNAILS, it will take a while, if does not work then try another suggestion

Oh! now your problem is hard, please do not worry, let me think.. first do you backup your gameprogress into a USB right?

Then you deleled the 2 files Game Progress and backup and copy back from your USB to your Playstation 3?

Is it possible for the USB to contain corrupted data ? YES, that is why I use 2 USB and Plus Backup

Why? I am trader, each time you save your game progress you are writting on your USB, a USB has a period of life

Still thinking in your problem

IF you want to get sure is not a USB problem go to your nearest Blockbuster or Best Buy tell them your ploblem and insert you GT5 DVD and your USB in order to recover your data... please let us know

Still thinking in your problem

Is it the same on different accounts on the PS3 or just the one you use most? You said you're kid loaded it up and it was the same, does he have his own account? If you want, I can test out your game save on one of my PS3's and see if the same problem occurs, would rule out 1 problem at least.

A - can't rebuild any thumbnails, at the first click of the given thumbnail (car, ticket, any icon) ... instant freeze.
B - yes, my data is ALWAYS backed up.
C - yes, deleted data ... did the uninstall / re-install. Still the same result.

You can go into a Best Buy and do that ?

On my PS3, there are 2 GT5 accounts, the main, and the storage. Both accounts are suffering from this problem. My third account (sports games, etc ... works just fine). As far as my kid, he has his own PS3, so no, he has no account on this particular unit. I did pick up the aforementioned PS3 today. This weekend (time permitting), I'm going to attempt to do all the data transfer from one to another ... keeping fingers crossed. We'll see what transpires. :nervous:

It is likely that your disc is faulty/scratched/warped.

Wish is was that easy. I put my kids GT5 disc into my PS3, it did the same thing. I put my GT5 disc into his PS3 and it works fine. So that rules out the disc.

Not good :ouch:

corrupted-data.jpg

After installing all the data into the recently purchased PS3, it is quite apparent that my GT5 gaming days are over. I can log in, go to the home screen, only to see what appears to be shadowed car tickets on the screen. The game is totally frozen. I'm sunk.

Total loss between 2 accounts :
1 account @ level 40/40, the other @ level 35/40
Over 2700 cars, many, many, many of them in 0/0/0 condition.
Over 5000 paints.
All the paid for DLC.
A good amount of level tickets, was missing less than a handful.
A good amount of B-Day tickets.

Many late nights, early mornings, countless hours, grinding, trading, gifting ..... all for not.

This being said, I'll catch you all in GT6 somewhere down the road. 👍

That's a real bastard, mate. Shame you couldn't work out a solution, but we'll catch ya in GT6 as you said. 👍

I can't believe this. How the hell has this happened? You can't give up on it.

Does it work when you don't connect to the Internet? Is the game disk scratched? Have you tried a brand new system?

Come on font give up on it!!!!

I think this is the same problem i had...
I thought it was my PS3 HDD so i borrowed a friends GT5 disk where we found out it was the GT5 disk itself that was the issue.

I'd say if you have any friends you know that will let you borrow their GT5 disk to try in your PS3 to see if this is the issue 👍

You should make backups of your save. Not just latest one, but keep let's say 10 last backups. And do backups at regular basis. It's not so hard to do, especially for game where you grind a lot of items...

This happened to me. After the freeze, i restarted PS3 and GT5 but the Game froze in the GT Life Menu again.

So i restarted ps3 again (SecondTime) >> Backed up GT5 savegame >> Removed GT5 Disc >> Deleted "ALL" Gran Turismo Files on the System (PS3).

Restarted Ps3 (ThirdTime) >> Inserted GT5 Disc >> Started GT5 for Install + Updates >> Quit Gt5 >> Copy the Savegame back to PS3 >> Restarted Gt5 to check it out, and i was Happy to see my Cars, Item, etc again... and no more Freeze till now . (This happened to me 1 Year ago) :)

Sorry for my English :)

Try another gt5 disc like someone mentioned, they were 10 $ recently at Walmart.
I dont know why but 2 - 3 micro scratch on your disc and you might encounter stuff like you described.

I had similar to your faults, I replaced the Blue ray drive and all is fine now. I would try your game save on another machine thats working fine.

Dont feel bad bro my ps3 just crapped the bed but luckily Sony is fixing it for free. But im pretty sure i will be starting over with no cars.... Terrible

Thanks frenzal ... appreciated 👍. This weekend I have an electronics guru coming over to have a peek at it. Hoping, hoping, hoping.

I'm so close to giving up that it is not even remotely funny. Internet / no internet ... acts the same. As far as the disc, the answer is below. Thanks for the input 👍.

Appreciate the input guys. Just hoping for a Christmas miracle this weekend. We'll see.

Ooops my bad, missed one. I must not have hit the quote button hard enough.
