Directed by Guillermo del Toro, who also made Academy Award winning "Pans Labyrinth", this is a somewhat epic looking monster film.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju.

On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes--a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)--who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Website Here.

I am pretty pumped up for this. The films looks like a massive epic with the huge robots (Jaegers) and monsters. As a long time fan of the Godzilla series I am following this closely. Also Legendary are co-producing with Japan's Toho studios (the original Godzilla producers) a new Godzilla film, so this can be seen as testing the waters for people's appetite for monsters.

FREAKING EPIC !!! Now when will be the time for Godzilla and Gundam live action .... Imagining a movie trilogy, Amuro Ray played by Elijah Wood, Char Aznable played by Michael Fassbender, piloting RX78-2 and MS-06 Red Comet battling in the jungle + underground of Jaburo and earth's orbit :O

Very much a mish mash of a ton of different sci fi films and trailers. Looks like a brilliant film in the making to me.

Looks like it could be a proper Kaiju film, but it could just as easily end up feeling like a video game. From the looks of things, it's AVATAR meets GODZILLA (not the crappy 1998 film) with mecha. That could go very poorly very quickly if they're not careful (and I didn't like the "interdimensional rift at the bottom of the sea floor" angle; it just seems silly). Still, it is Guillermo del Toro at the helm, and he's been guiding the script from its treatment phase, so that's a plus.

It certainly looks interesting now, but my gut tells me it may end up as one of those movies that draws a lot of hype, but does satisfactory at the box office. And apparently, it already has a sequel. :odd:

BTW, am I the only one who instantly thought GLaDOS in that trailer?

I'm hoping that this movie will have some Eva-esque moments, but everything seems to be pointing against it. The only two things that give me hope is that the trailer describes the Jaeger as monsters and that GlaDOS's pronunciation of Jaeger almost sounds like she's saying "Eva". :p

Seriously? This is a movie about giant robots fighting giant monsters.

Reminds me of Robot Jox, only this time with mega budget, great CGI and giant monsters. I love the old Jox, no matter how corny or primitive it was in terms of visual effects. Giant mecha will always leave me drooling :O

There's only so much silliness the audience can take? Why not just say they are aliens that crashed on earth a millenia ago, and that their immense size is evolutionary? There's a theory that giant squid (if they exist) are giant because they evolved that way to tolerate the phenomenal pressures at the very bottom of the sea.

As you say, the film has a ridiculous concept to begin with - which means suspension of disbelief is all the more important because there is only so much audiences will put up with before they feel a film has jumped the shark.

One of the speculations for the monster in Cloverfield was that it was from the deep sea, and the reason it could take all the hits from the artillery was because of that.

While I feel you, there's probably more significance plot-wise to the interdimensional portal than just serving as a quick explanation of where the monsters came from. I mean, the movie's named after it, not the monsters or the robots.

And I personally don't find it particularly difficult to suspend my disbelief for it, since I've never expected this to be scientifically accurate/plausible. As long as the material is presented believably, that should suffice.

The Jaeger is also Eva-sized. :D

For everyone saying about the anime influences, Evangelion, and Gundam... this is a homage to way before then, the kaiju eiga, the Japanese monster films of the 1960's, Godzilla and Gamera. Mecha's and robots are familiar, I am seeing over-tones of a ton of kaiju eiga plots and references. The whole spirit of it runs deep within this, that's what really hooks me with his film.

I recognize three influences: Kaiju(Godzilla, Mothra, etc.) - Hollywood(general alien invasion stuff) - Tetsujin 28-Go

I could be totally wrong on the last one, but even the actual robot looks like Gundam robot with Tetsujin style.

Ignore the audio. It's dubbed in Korean with some dude singing along.

Guillermo del Toro's one of my all-time favorite directors, and I consider him one of the all-time greats, but I did not see this coming. Interesting cast as well. I'm really looking forward to it. 👍

CES Pacific Rim Trailer :

Be quick to save it, before it gets removed like the other one, this is the HD version.

The official uploader :

I think this one is a lot better than the 1st theatrical trailer.

I like the robots motions, very fluid, better than the control panels and cockpits you find in most film robots 👍

^ You should check out MS IGLOO Gravity Front series, CGI Gundam movies from 0079 One Year War, these should be made into life action :D The most notable is the 2nd episode ..

The opening scene has some epic ground battles, with infantry, armored vehicles, mobile suits .... maybe Pacific Rim would have similar scenes with the military fighting the monsters ?

I have been excited for this movie for such a long time. When I first heard of if I immediately thought Evangelion. The trailers are more distant from that franchise than I had hoped, but I still want to see this so bad. I am not looking for anything to make sense as far as plot or anything. I just want to sit down for two hours and watch mechs fight monsters. Plus GLaDOS and Jax are in it. Awesomesauce.

Oh please, all it needs to get your support is a bitchy German redhead. :p

I think I like Cherno Alpha the most. All the rest look a little interchangeable, but Cherno Alpha has a very distinct apperance with that armour on its head. It makes it look like a mecha wearing a top hat, and how is that anything but awesome?

There's also a few additional one-sheets out there showing the technical specifications and features of each jaeger, but they're all in their native languages, so the only one that is readable is Striker Eureka, which aside from having a battery of missiles in its chest, it has those retractable lobster-like claws that can apparently be heated up to incredible temperatures. Otherwise, Crimson Typhoon obviously has that blender-hand thing, and Coyote Tango has two shoulder-mounted cannons. Cherno Alpha appears to be built as a brawler; it's the jaeger dropped into the ocean in the trailer, and it apparently has a rocket-powered punch and the ability to anchor itself by driving pistons mounted on its feet into the ground, kind of like a crane stabilising itself on uneven terrain.
