How many of you guys like racing online with the Vehicle Tuning Prohibited (VTP) box ticked? I would like to know just how popular it is among the GT Planet community, so please vote in the poll. It's my preffered way to race, also Shuffle racing & using the Recommended cars.

Also, the main idea behind this thread is to promote a new VTP club I'm running. If you're interested follow this link for more information.

Yep yep yep it is mine too. The way I see it is anyone can beat you with a tune but it is a lot harder when you have the same car

I like it but it's too simplified in GT5. You can just allow all tuning parts or disable them all, it would be better if we could have an option to allow or disable any tuning part. And tuning should be completely removeable, might not be realistic but what the heck, GT5 tuning was mostly done following the 'what if' idea (like putting turbos into historic race cars) after all.

I think I see what you mean, the prohibited tuning option also extends to set up (for racing cars which have changeable options as default) and it would be nice to have an option where add-on parts aren't allowed but a changed set up still is.

As for the option itself, I sometimes use it as it's sometimes just fun to race stock cars or exactly the same car to see who's the fastest or better driver but then there's also a special kind of satisfaction gained from beating players by simply having a better tune.

It's too bad there is such a time difference . You would probably enjoy racing in one of the SNAIL SPEC divisions.

Stock Spec racing with all aids/ABS off is practically all I do. I have a rather large group of friends who share similar interests so it's not really hard to find races. Now if PD managed to fix the clutch, low speed physics so we get proper launches, and add an option to force cockpit view in online lobbies that would be perfect... one can dream right?

yeah, as a noob, I'm amazed that there isn't an option to force cockpit view. figured that would be what I'd have to use online.

Honestly forced cockpit view is pointless to me because in cockpit camera I hate seeing two steering wheels. I wish there was a way to remove the steering wheel in the in car camera then i would use it more often. I use it for cruising mostly but for racing or drifting I use hood view. Reason is because the way i sit in look over my wheel and onto the hood

I am not a great tuner, and I find that tuning tends to homogeonize the differences in the cars. So I love VTP, Shuffle and spec.

What would make the most sense is that setting A in the tuning sheets is stock, remains stock so long as you own the vehicle, no matter what upgrades you make to the car for tuning sheets B, C, D etc.

Yes I like tuning prohibited racing but it's such a struggle to go through the garage and remember which cars I have with reversible modifications on them that I usually don't bother.

This is my issue with stock racing. Unless I'm wrong, whenever I've entered a VTP race I have to hunt and peck to find a car that hasn't been tuned. I always feel rushed so I can enter and not miss the race.

Would be a lot easier if in these races GT5 only showed eligible, non-tuned cars.

The answer is to have all your stock vehicles painted the same colour. Takes a while to set up but worth it.

Aye, too late for me, usually fast asleep at the times they race. Also, the tyre compounds they use are a bit too grippy for my liking. Great series though, very well organised & run.

Sometimes they use the "Recommended cars" list so that you don't have to go through all of your own cars to find something eligible.

I love the idea of tuning prohibited races, it keeps it fair for those who aren't as versed in tuning as others. I my self am not a strong tuner but a great driver (in my opinion :)) so races like these really benefit me.

I'd love to join but as OshawaJoe said, it's the time difference that's the issue here (we share the same zone).

I think forcing cockpit view would make racing in the rain more fair, as it does obscure your view. I'm with you on the 2 steering wheels problem, as I have a G25 & hate the on screen wheel. There sould be an option to hide it like in other sim racing games. I doubt DS3 users would like to see another pair of hands holding a DS3 on the screen, :lol!

Recommended is ok but it gets boring after a while, especially after a you spend 40 minutes in a couple of races with some of the crappier handling recommended cars. PD really missed the boat in not making every single car in the game available in the Recommended Garage or as an alternative, once a month maybe, a complete turnover of the cars.

I've added a new poll to the thread guys, please vote again, thanks. :)

Yep exactly. Got to love the G series wheels

My G25 has been great, used it almost every night for months when I first got it. Still using it several times a month now, had it since early 2009, awesome!

:D

I love racing stock cars. Shuffle is fun when you don't get hosed on a car, and the recommended is fine too, but I really like having the variety to pick whatever I want. I have duplicates of all my favorite cars from all across the spectrum, and painted the stock versions the same color (yellow). I can easily find them whenever I want.

I think the tuning prohibition setting should revert any car wanting to be used back to its default settings. Obviously engine break-in is not considered "tuning". Or the car should be switched to a tuning sheet that is still at default settings.

Same goes for Seasonal events. ALL cars that exceed PP requirements because of tuning (OR FREAKING TIRES) should be presented in their default state (maybe tuning sheet B). It's pretty friggin asinine that a car is not shown in the Seasonal Garage because it is ONE POINT over the PP requirement.

It would be nice to have the option to set a race to allow Full tuning, transmission tune only, fully stock. Fully stock of course would still allow you to change oil obviously
