Seriously, what is the big fuss about these cars? What honest use do you have for a gazillion horsepower Red Bull? I've tried that and seen the Civics, seen GTR's, Zonda's, and it's a little boring after a few minutes.

If your basically going to hack and cheat the game, why play it? I fail to see the full entertainment value in going 700mph at SSRX really.

It's a gimmick, and I hope more people get bored and realise how silly it really is. And legally quite dangerous for them.

Probably going to get a ton of hate for saying that, but i'm sure i'm not alone in thinking this.

Furi.

What about getting that 1000hp supra you've always begged to get to drift or 600hp gt86 & ae86. I'm not a fan of 102000 hp. I'm a fan of the realistic horsepower numbers. That's where it becomes fun.....

But no-one's interested in doing these things. It's all "how much tyre smoke can you get in your face from my 300mph Civic." ....

that is why you join people who enjoy these cars. the rooms i have checked out are actually pretty cool. a lot of the people who complain are the ones who don't have one. everyone's attitude about it changes when they actually have one in their garage.

Because it's more fun. I certainly don't want to deal A-Spec. I buy racing sims to race and enjoy cars, not grind money. The modded cars are an easy way to make the boring part of the game go by much, much faster.

Out of all of them, the best fun I've had was in the 1400bhp Daihatsu Midget... went into a lobby with 5 spanish guys the other night, totally smoked them in their JTCs... it was all good natured fun, they couldn't believe what they were seeing and laughing all the time as this crazy little car was drifting round corners smoking tyres and leaving them dead on the straights.

Best fun I've had in a long time, just because it was silly and purely for giggles!

I have a full friend list wih people interested in these cars. I have multiple people askin me for them. It's nice to get 1000000 hp and have a giggle now and then yes. I just prefer going all out and drifting the crazy slightly over powered cars. Makes my day :)

I presume you've monitored each and every online player to come to this authoritarian conclusion.

I borrowed the modded Civic EK from a friend. I was having a crappy day. As soon as I hit 200 in the civic at SSRX, I couldn't help but smile. By the time I nearly hit 350, I was laughing my a** off. The camera shake inside the car was like the earth just got hit by an asteroid. The front wheels were smoking so much. And around 260-280 MPH, the engine starts spooling up and it gets so loud!

It was probably the best moment I ever had in GT5.

A "Jaguar XJR-9 Purple" Honda Civic has the highest top speed at Route X on my PS3. Faster than my X2011.

Furi.

I am guilty of using the hybrid x2010. But they're fun if you're using them for some online fun..I laughed at the 4-rotor 306
Now when you use them to grind, I can see where you're coming from. I'm guilty of that also. But in my defense, it was my cousin's birthday and I had no real time to sit there and race alot.

I don't indulge in this practice, but really it is you who is being silly now.

Care to explain rather than just leave a remark with no reason or explanation?

I presume you've monitored each and every online player to come to this authoritarian conclusion.

Didn't say that anywhere.

How do you get these cars up to that high bhp?

Hacks.

Didn't say that anywhere.

No, you didn't. Because you haven't.

If people want to use hybrids, they will. No amount of whining on your part because people aren't playing the game the way you want to, is going to stop that. If you don't like it, make your own lobby. What exactly are you hoping to achieve by this?

Didn't ONCE state that I would get people to play "as I wanted to".

And many apologies for voicing an opinion in a discussion forum. 👍

Your entire thread is complaining about people playing the game in a way that you don't like.

You've stated your opinion and got an opinion back. 'Discussion' works two ways.

Fair does, but i'm not telling other members it's "wrong". Perhaps I am too much of a purist to get this.

On what legal basis would someone who has modified their game save or borrowed a modified car be prosecuted?

On what grounds is it legal to take a created game, and modify and program the product without permission of Polyphony Digital?

Cheating on an online service?

That's not a law.

It certainly isn't theft or fraud or even copyright infringment. It may breach T&C's of the PSN service, but it is not illegal. The worst that could happen is they ban you from PSN.

It scares me that there are people out there who could possibly think altering a few bits in a game for fun (commiting no fraud or copyright infringment) could be illegal.

On what grounds is it legal to take a created game, and modify and program the product without permission of Polyphony Digital?

Show me the law it violates please, I can't prove a negative.

What as in USB from pc?

Yes. It's save game modding that basically anyone could do using freeware.

No people hacking GT5 data and altering values in programming.

You're wrong. It's hex editing of save files, not jailbreaking PS3s and modifying game data.

Having driven stuff like a GT-R at 800mph certainly was fun for a few hours, and it gets really funny reactions in random free run lobbies. But the real use of this is creating new tuning possibilities. I've created the modded Supra, and it has 1,090bhp with all tuning parts for a reason: it's meant to be a realistic tuning car, not another silly ridiculous car that you can't use anywhere else than SSRX.

Edit:
On what grounds is it legal to take a created game, and modify and program the product without permission of Polyphony Digital?

To alter your car's power outputs (or even to create hybrids with exchanged chassis or engines) you don't need to modify game data in any way. You only modify your own, personal save file. Therefore there is no illegal action you are doing.

I don't know if it crosses the legal border when you play with these cars online or share them. But really, it's not like Sony would sue people for creating a virtual car that has 300 more virtual bhp than it normally could have in the virtual game due to the virtual borders.

Altered for fun, but PD has something called copyright.

@KiroKai, thanks for clarification 👍

These Hybrids affect the integrity of the game and the series as a whole. Anyone not concerned about that is not very intelligent. If you could see past your own nose, you would see the potential ramifications of this in a month, a year or more down the road. Kaz has already said that "GT6 is just new apps that run on the GT5 system". Does this mean that hacked cars will be in GT6 from day 1? Where will it end? The X1 can now enter any PP restricted lobby because of it's negative PP value. Who's to say the PP values won't get hacked as well? What happens to the TT's at that point? GT Academy? Online racing? They're done, period.

Once you can't line up on the grid and be 100% certain the guy beside you has the same specs as you, the game, the whole GT Series is done.

I think lots of us are purist's Furi, more than you think, but to speak out on this issue you just get labelled a "purist" or an "elitist" and shouted down.
I'd have no trouble with PD allowing engine swaps and stuff along those lines, I don't care if cars get 2000 hp, so long as it's within the parameters of the game, not in an illegal, hacked, hybrid car. I'll trust PD to set it up, not Harry Hacker.
