GTPlanet will undergo significant changes in the coming weeks, and as a result, several features must be discontinued. If you use the Social Groups or User Albums feature, please read this announcement carefully to help ensure a smooth transition as we convert to a new community software platform.

Social Groups Closure

Social Groups are not supported by our new software, and all data associated with existing social groups will no longer be available after the transition. If you maintain a Social Group here, please back-up and save any important information or content that it may contain. As of this announcement, no new groups can be created.

I realize many of you depend on Social Groups to communicate and organize online racing leagues and events. Please, do not be concerned: Social Groups will remain online and fully functional until the transition to the new software begins.

Further, you will find the new software makes it much easier to communicate and collaborate with small groups, with more sophisticated and modern tools which obsolete the Groups feature in its current form. Stay tuned for more information on the new messaging functionality when the new site is launched.

Photo Albums Closure

User Photo Albums are also not supported by our new forum software, and uploaded images will no longer be available after the transition is complete. As of now, no new photos may be uploaded to these albums.

Please review your images here and save any files to your PC which you want to preserve.

As with Social Groups, Photo Albums will be replaced by more modern features which will allow you to quickly upload and share files and photos on GTPlanet, including the ability to upload and embed a full thumbnail gallery directly into your post, drag-and-drop file uploads from your desktop, and the ability to share photos directly from your mobile device or tablet.

GTPlanet Mobile Apps End-of-Life

GTPlanet’s iOS and Android apps will be removed from the App Store and Google Play Stores on Friday, September 6, 2013, and will not be available to download after that date.

Of course, you can continue using the app on your mobile device until the new site is launched, at which point the app will no longer function. The mobile apps will be replaced by the new site itself, which is fully responsive and highly optimized to offer a full (and fast!) experience on all types of smartphones, tablets, and PCs.

When is the new site coming?

I’m working around the clock get the new GTPlanet online as soon as possible, but it's a large project and I can’t offer a solid date just yet. It won’t be much longer, though. Keep an eye out for another announcement in the coming weeks with more information on the transition.

These new changes will be implemented on Monday, October 28, at 00:00 GMT/UTC. See here for more information.

I apologize for these inconveniences, but look forward to offering you a modern platform which will help us take this community to all-new heights. :) Please let me know if you have any questions.

I'm excited to see the next incarnation you've prepared for us, Jordan!

So, after the site's release date, should I delete the app or will it redirect me to the newer version of GTPlanet? And should I be in any concern about finding new ways to post pictures on threads?
I am though ready to see what this transition will be like.:D

I'm worried about the social group deal...we post pretty frequently in ours.

Basically, you'll be able to create private, invitation-only threads, with all of the features and functionality that implies, including full compatibility with mobile devices.

You'll want to delete the app after the new site is launched. I'll have instructions in the announcement about how to install the new web-app icon, so you'll still be able to reach the site in one tap from your home screen.

Don't be concerned about posting pictures in threads; the new site will offer full image hosting functionality. You won't need to use third-party image hosting services any more.

Oh my god. This is incredible news. Now I don't need to make a Flickr account to post my pictures! I can't wait for the new site!

Wow that is awesome, that will make everything so much easier, especially for track day photos!!! Awesome news!!!

When the new site is launched, is the theme and format etc changing? I've grown pretty fond of the way it's currently set up.

Yes, but not significantly. It will carry the same basic structure and color palette.

You'll still be able to embed pictures from Flickr or anywhere else, I'm just not sure why you'd want to. :D Uploading photos will be literally as simple as dragging and dropping the files over your browser window (you can even copy and paste images from other sources directly into the post editor), or you can upload images directly from your smartphone's camera.

Also - thanks to support from Premium subscribers - I've been able to make a significant investment in GTPlanet's server infrastructure, and there will be no limit to the number of photos and files you can share.

Good going, Jordan! Hey, get some sleep, eh?

I take GTPlanet seriously because of the way you handle this site - you are conscientious, kind, hard-working, and very passionate about what the site stands for. 👍 👍

Thanks for everything. It is a pleasure to contribute to this site, and an honour to be a part of it.

Looking forward, of course, to all the new wrinkles and gizmos. :)

This is nice. I'll have to keep checking when the new site comes out. Though user albums won't be used anymore, I'm glad Jordan was able to make posting pictures a lot easier. Thanks Jordan. :D

P.S.- I had used my photo albums to make posting pics possible for me.

Good lord, does it get any better than that? :p

That is just awesome. Amazing.

Awesome news! Just awesome!

Will the images on here still be compressed the same way? I've noticed that my pictures uploaded on here lose a lot more quality than when they're uploaded onto Flickr or alternative sites.

This is great news, I find it very time consuming to upload an image to a site like Photobucket, find it in my uploaded folder and get it over here. It's the main reason why I gave up posting images that I produced myself on here.

Many thanks Jordan, I'm sure the whole community is going to love the simplicity you brought to the website. :)

Thanks for the kind words, photonrider. :O

On the new site, images will be available in their original size and quality.

These changes sound great, and I'm excited to see how the site develops in the future. Thanks for all your hard work Jordan! 👍

Will we be able to copy-paste .wmv's? Or do we need Youtube still?

Looking forward to this, keep up the good work, Jordan! :)👍

You'll still need to use YouTube to share videos, but that process will be easier as well. You can just copy and paste the URL to the video, and it will automatically be converted to an embedded player. (And yes, you can still just link to the video if you don't want to embed it.)

This sounds fantastic. I can't wait for this update to the site. Thanks Jordan for all the support on the site and hard work !

Looking forward to the changes Jordan. I'm sure it will be quite appealing and easier to use.

I'm super-excited, Jordan. I'm trying my best to be patient too; from what we do know, it sounds like GTP will just further extend its lead as the best of its kind out there 👍

This is some incredible news!! Can't wait for the new GTPlanet! :D Keep up the great work Jordan. 👍

:p

Good to hear about the new mobile site. I access GTP a lot when I'm not at home on the PC, so hearing that doing so will be more convenient is great. 👍
