GTPlanet, hi again. It is a pleasure for you to join me or read my forum topic.
Now, you may remember my topic based on Japan's most beautiful cars. This time, I figured I'd make this a free-style topic. If it is from the Americas (North and South America), the Mediterrenean (Europe and Africa), or the Asia-Pacific (Asia, Australia, and Pacific Territories), it has a place in this topic. So that I don't become too one sided, here is a chance to talk about more than one car. The title says SOME OF...CARS..., so just putting down one is minimal. You may want to talk about what makes the car beautiful. Here's the thing though. It's about street cars here, not race cars. I have a lot of favorites, so bare with me. Anyhow, let's begin, shall we?
AMERICAS:
To me, the Shelby Cobra is a welcome addition to the lineup of American cars. You take a look at this classic American car. It has light weight and a killer motor. Don't care make fun of this little machine. I'd consider the Chevrolet Belairs of the 1950s, and the 1957 and 63 Corvettes as beautiful machines. Just look at these classic Chevys. They look so alluring. But I would definetely put these cars (especially the old Corvettes) among the likes of the Jaguar XKE and maybe even the Toyota 2000GT. Of today, I think there aren't really any lovely cars of today's era, except maybe a few. The Lincoln LS is luxurious and alluring. Just to sit in one at the Houston Auto Show and have someone show me the controls and features of it is simply amazing. I was impressed. Even though the car was not produced in America, I'd say the Ford GT40 is one of the world's most beautiful cars as well. One sold at Barrett-Jackson for $424,000. Toyota's American luxury division Lexus has some lovely cars as well. My favorite has to be the SC430. And this is weird... I'd like to nominate the Lexus SUV they have, I forget the name of it. Last, but not least, there was a 1948 Studabaker I consider beautiful, just don't know the name of it. It was in a dark green, and it was sweet. And of course, my final nominee- the Ford Model T.
MEDITERRENEAN:
Now on to where the automobile was born. I'll start with British machinery. TVR is in my view, a car company that does sportscars right. Light weight, heavy horsepower, doggone near race car. My favorite TVRs have to be the Griffith, and maybe even the Speed 12. The Speed 12 is beautiful in a beastly way. It's also a bastard to drive in GTs 2 and maybe even 3 as well. I'd like to end my British nominees with an unlikely one, the Mini Cooper. I have one more British candidate, but I'll save that for last. As you know, I love the Aston Martins and Jaguars. Another beautiful machine I'd nominate is the Peugeot 406, as we try to go through mainland Europe. Peugeot has some beautiful machinery if you know where to look. Renault is a bit different. I like their Clio mid-engine hatchback, but I'm skeptical as if to put it in a "beautiful car" thread. For Germany, I'd say the Audi TT is a fun little machine, but it's looks are questionable for "most beautiful in the world" status. I'm getting into Mercedes-Benz a lot as well. The Silver Arrow of Mercedes-Benz comes up with alluring, yet powerful machinery. The gullwinged Mercedes of the 50s are amazing, and rake in good numbers at auctions. The best of the post-modern times is the CLK-GTR that competed in FIA GT in 1998 and also competed at Le Mans. Porsche has one of their spiders from the past, but I would definitely nominate the 956 to the list, also the 962, even the 917. And of now, the Porsche GT1 (now retired, basically) is lovely. Italian cars are almost always beautiful even without getting into one. For Ferrari, the 360 Modena and F50 are sure nominees for beautiful cars. I don't know what car it was, but it was a machine from the 70s or 60s with a nice engine roar. Lamborghini has mostly beast cars, but the Lamborghini Canto was certainly special. Its Miura also makes a sweet car. To close out for this section, I think the Volvo S60R is also lovely, not to mention the S80. Safe cars, but also beautiful ones. Oh, and that British car that rules over all? The MCLAREN F1! Heart of a German, crafted beautifully by British engineers. Good one, in honor of Bruce McLaren.
ASIA-PACIFIC:
Toyota 2000GT. Top of the list for the Asia-Pacific. Datsun 240Z would also be at the top, even though I seem to be more of a Toyota fan than a Nissan fan. But I will say this about Nissan. Nissan is what I would consider the most improved car company. Their 350Z is an eye-catcher. The smooth lines and curvy appearance make it special. The only takeaway, to me, is probably how the tail lights look at the back and at the rear sides of the car. It seems more like a Japanese Porsche, but hey. I'll accept it. The Mazda RX-7 and RX-8 are both lovely. The RX-7 of the early-mid 1990s were curvy and alluring. Today's RX-8 is actually being perceived as a pretty cool sports car. I've really gotten into Mazda nowadays. A beautiful Japan-only car is the Mazda Lantis from the early 1990s. The Nissan S15 Silvia is DEFINITELY one of the most beautiful of this day and age, also Japan only (it would kick ass in America). Honda has the NSX, which is still an affordable supercar. More American car companies talk about buying pure sportscars for cheaper, Honda been having its affordable supercar since the early 1990s with only TWO different generations, and a third one is very likely. I don't really like Daihatsus except one- the Storia. Mitsubishi has its 3000GT. It can serve as a pure sportscar with luxury car weight, or an eye-catching bullet down the road. Tommy kaira has their ZZII, especially from Gran Turismo 3, which is a 360 Modena killer in terms of its looks. Now to Australia. Two cars are at the top of my list. The Holden Commodore and the Ford Falcon. That JOSS Supercar is also a sweet piece of Australian engineering. It's a shame only the Tickford Race Car made it into GT3. If GT3 was further researched and had more cars, Holden and other Fords would have been welcome choices.
It's a long list, but you can come up with some short favorites. Reply now! While you're still young! (^_^)
