Some ppl I have talked to over the net dont think. The people I talk to are fans of Grand Prix 4 and GrandPrixLegends and they dont think gt4 really is going to be a sim. Of course I disagreed with them, gt4 in my honest opinion is a true sim. Track times that are off by 5 or 2 sec is accurate in my opinion. What do you all think? BMW even used the gt4 engine to show off the M5, that's something to me :)

Ok, I edited. I guess I should spell out bmw and gt4

If you think you can, feel free to go ahead. I'm not holding out too much hope though.

GT4 is a sim yes... Not to the level of GPL or others. But as it's trying to simulate racing to a point it is still a sim.

Even games like GPL arn't true 100% realistic sims. There is no such thing at this time only because technology isn't at the point where it can "fool" a person into thinking they are really driving a car.

You said wrath. Did you mean stupidness?

Nevermind anyway, the way he's going on about it now, he'll explode by the time GT4 is released.

Why dont you just shut the hell up, did I make you read this thread, do you have to, was I expecting you to like it? No, so shut up fool, why are you worried anyway? Worry about something else.

You cannot make thread read the thread. thread is the thread.

What he said.

I am worried only for the safety of countless, thoughtlessly spawned threads here which have no future, and only exist for you to pour the contents of your feeble mind onto.

And not content with that, you're now littering us with grammatical crimes too! Four questions in a single sentence, covered by only one question mark? Hideous.

Thank you,

Thread

I already answered this, in post #2.

Does GT4 fit the dictionary definition of "simulate"? Yes. Case closed.

Yep - we ruined a perfectly crappy thread by answering the pointless question it asked. Damn us to hell.

Ask he parents. Then advise them to switch it.

rofl...

I was going through this thread and wondered why people were referring to cobra, I had to scroll back up to realise it was actually him that first posted - it just seemed such a stupid thing I assumed some n00b had posted it.

I don't know if everyone had a bad weekend or something but I think we all need to seriously relax.

Remember, there are no stupid questions, only stupid people.

GT4 is a car driving sim, not a racing sim, a racing sim would have damage/proper collision, more cars on track at once, it would let you put decals and sponsor ads on your cars (when do you ever see a race on TV with only single colored cars competing against each other?), more realistic AI, etc.
In terms of handling it's about as realistic as any other game out there, except when it comes collision and damage.

No wonder Code_kev owns you, Cobra... (j/k) :)

Anyhow, I can't go outside of my "answer any question even it it is worthless" thing. Do you know what seperates Gran Turismo from other sim titles? It is that you have a variety of cars each with their own handling and characteristics. It is not like you have a sim racing game that's devoted to one aspect of motorsport, be it NASCAR, American Le Mans (this is in need of a VERY above average simulation), or even World Rally. Some of the Codemasters games like "Pro Race Driver" deal with many racing series as possible. Give or take the handling of the cars vs. their real life counterparts, Codemasters is a bit too much like a maker of sim games. Keep in mind. The Gran Turismo series is known for realism, while adding an arcade edge. To say that Gran Turismo 4 is NOT a sim is like saying Brett Favre isn't a real quarterback, or the New York Yankees aren't a real baseball team, or the Los Angeles Lakers aren's a real basketball team, or the New Zealand All-Blacks aren't a real rugby team. Do you get my idea yet? So, GT4 is a sim without being too sim-heavy. If things are too much of a sim, it can be tough to have any real arcade fun. I'm not contradicting. The GT series is a "segment-buster," like the Chrysler Pacifica is in the car world. The segment-buster for Gran Turismo is the line between arcade and sim. It's just the right balance and it's been loved for 6 or 7 years now.

Ehm, this section of your plea could be slightly less obtuse. This is hard to follow even if it were Modernist verse, which I'm not even sure it isn't.

Although I'm not completely sure what you say about Codemasters, I do get what you're saying about GT - it's a game that spans the whole range from Sim to Arcade, without going to either extreme.

I think Mr. Kazunori once said that they have a Simulation Engine that can cover just about everything, but because of the PS2's hardware limits they are currently only using about 10% of that, delicately balancing graphics, sound, and handling to create the best possible mix for the platform. In my opinion PD is doing a pretty good job there, although I personally wouldn't mind the option to drive without ABS altogether in some of the cars.

GT will be a sim when you won't ask yourself this question anymore.

For the moment, GT is the best racing game on console... that's all...

and concerning GT4, still can not answer as I still haven't put my hands on...

but when I see that fuel consumption will be through a light indicator, I tell myself that it's not a sim..

This will never stop me playing it more than I should !!!!

Just registered to make a comment here.

I think that the word sim means different things to different people. Imho GPL and Nascar 2003 are "sims", in the sense that they seem to emulate real world physics, car weight, weight transfer, collisions and so on. To me the its not that important how close the real track times are in GT4 compared to the real thing. I feel that if the car is not functioning under real world physics, it's not a sim. Realistic collisions are one part of this.

Watching the GT4 videos from the "Ring" after the jump the cars seem to settle down too easily... I don't see realistic weight transfer or the suspension working in there.

I think GT4 put most of it's weight in eye candy. PS2 isn't powerfull enough to handle "real" physics and "real" graphics at the same time.

GT4 simulates the real thing but takes shortcuts while doing it. After all this said, I'm thinking of getting PS2 just to play GT4 :D That replay with M5 concept and GT40 were pretty amazing.
