I'm not very active with GT4 topics because I don't want to take chances asking the same question someone else did, or that I am kind of waiting more than coming up with topics. So having said that, here is a new topic created by the mad scientist baring an avatar of the McLaren F1. And don't get me wrong, I still have mad respect for the Toyota GT-One, but I decided to go in a new direction. Okay, back to the intro.

Let me open this topic for discussion of the secret cars in the game and the methods employed to make them available. Alright? So let's go. Would you like to see a secret car mode whereas you just unlock a car that you can win again in most championships, or would you like to have secret cars that ypu cam win only once, and if you sell, too bad?

I'd rather have a car to purchase over again as much as I like, than just waste a perfectly fine car. Here's a sad GT3 moment. You had to EARN the Mini Cooper. It would have made a fun starter car. And I think that if I wanted a car over again, I'd like to buy one. So here are three ideas you can think about. Pick and debate. (1.) I'd personally want to unlock a car by winning. Having said that, I'd want to be able to buy that same car again in case I sell it. That's why it's called UNLOCKING. (2.) Maybe when getting a secret car, I'd rather hold onto that car and build up my garage and not sell them, even if I want a test drive. (3.) Or maybe my suggestions aren't enough, maybe you have your own ideas. So when it comes to cars you have to earn, would you like to buy them? Think about unlocking a car and be able to buy it again or in a different or custom color (even color-shifting). How about it?

I think you're first suggestion is the best idea. I sold just about all of the one-off prize cars in GT3 only to discover you couldn't win them back. If you win/unlock a car then it should then be available to purchase in the car dealer, even if it is at a higher price than perhaps it is worth.

GT4 sounds like it will take some time to complete so the prospect of having to start over to re-win a car i've already won doesn't really appeal to me.

I also agree with your first point, this way in case you do sell it you can get it back and it will also give the player more variety of colour instead of just the one you win.

I also think that you should be able to see each and every car that is in the game from the start... Instead of making some cars secret you could go and find out what cars are there and what cars your opponents are running.

Definetely prefer the first idea of unlocking a car... although with some of the later cars you're gonna be spending some mega bucks to buy them again!!!

o_O Were we playing the same version of GT3? Because in mine you couldn't sell one off cars like the Viper GTSR Team Oreca for example. They had no price and couldn't be sold. Everything else could be won from more than one place to my knowledge.

I think once you've unlocked a car you should be able to buy it, and I think that if you buy a car you've already bought the price should increase by 10%. That'll stop people buying 32 Skylines in every colour :D Seriously, we can just go paint shop most things hopefully, so that'll take care of the problem of winning dodgy prize cars.

There was also a Honda S2000 that couldn't be sold...
And there were cars that could only be won one time, in single races like FR race, the AE86 Shigeno Version (great car :) )

Having the vehicles unlocked seems like the best option. Then from that point on you can buy them. I think that GT4 sim mode will have even more events then GT3 or GT2 and that is saying alot. With the inlcusion of online mode, I doubt this time if very many peeps will be wanting to start the game over just to get a certain car. hopefully with online mode we will allways have the option of trading cars with other players, another feasiable way to get cars that are rare. What about the used car lots, GT2 was fun because differnt cars showed up there about every 10 game days. If we can divide our garage on the memory card up into categories, I would have a section for rare cars or hard to win ( put them in there so that I know not to sell them ). Or you could maybe have it at say 50 percent game complete "x" amount of cars are unlocked and available for purchase, then at 75 percent "x" amount of more cars.

I like that idea of once you win it you can buy it, but I also like that idea of more cars being available at certain percentages, a reward for taking part in different races rather than racing in the samer thing a again and again for big money.

You couldn't sell the Viper but you could sell all of the other one-off cars like the Tom's Chaser for example.

I think a combination of ideas would be good:

You can win say the McLaren F1 GTR in a lemans championship, you can either keep this or sell it for 1/2 price. However to stop 'cheating' you can only win it once, but you can however buy it again for the full price which is unlocked when you win the car. :)

Secret cars all the way!!!! :D It add's interest to the game, keeps it constantly fresh and interesting and makes you want to work harder to win. If I know all the cars in the game it wont be amazing when I win a car that I knew was there. I really enjoyed the F1 cars in GT3 which were relatively secret and I would like to see more secrets in GT4.

Image if you win the game and unlock a shedload of secret Lambo's and Ferarri's........now the would be a suprise!!!

I agree with Robin. I dont think I would enjoy the fact of knowing which car I was going to win after a race more so than having it be a suprise. Now for the cars being out on the showroom after you have "unlocked" them wouldn't be a bad idea either. It would be more convenient than to have to play the race over to win it again.

Thank you to everyone who replied to this topic. And I see a lot of you like my first idea of unlocking a secret car and being able to buy it again in case you sell it and want to buy it again. In a way, I thought of a special idea concerning some cars. Namely, the concept cars are some of the more expensive models (how about 200K Cr for a Nissan Z Concept?) should require either an IA or S license. Some of the race cars should require an IB License for race cars under 300 horsepower, then race cars over 300 horsepower should require an IA license. And to make things more interesting, let's say that all open-top prototypes that cannot be bought require an S license. Or maybe some cars will require you to win races (think about it). For example, if you want the ugly (but very agile) Lancia Delta, let's say you had to win the Grand Canyon race against a Subaru Impreza WRC. Or if you wanted a Toyota GT-One Race Car, you have to win the "Dream Car Championship" in Professional Mode by getting 50 points or more (meaning in GT3, winning 5 out of 7 races).

Secret cars. Unlock them to buy them back in the future, or unlock them to hold onto and try not to sell it?

I also like your unlocking idea, but I also think it should be expanded into arcade mode. When you win (or purchase!) a car in simulation mode, its bone stock 0 miles version becomes available in its appropriate class in arcade mode with all available colors. I think this would be great to have for online class based arcade quick races.

I have this great idea that would (hopefully) stop cheating. We all did it at once. Race nine of the series, up 80-43 pts., and *save*, race ten end and win the car you want, if you dont win, load and repeat. Instead of this in GT3, how about saving the game (must if you want to win a prize car), the game saves your winning car onto the memory card as if it were after the championship, THEN the game shows you the car you just won. This would stop most all "win your favorite car" cheat. Then it unlocks and you can buy it, blah de blah de blah.....

Hiya! :D :O

Unlocking car's and then being able to buy them from now on would be what I want also. I dont like how its a one time get, if sold, can't get it ever again like some cars.

Plays GT4:

CONGRATUALTIONS! YOU HAVE UNLOCKED THE MCLAREN F1 ROAD CAR!

Somtimes you really scare me.:scared:

Rocket Powered? That reminds me, wasn't there some competition some guy won that got his car into GT4? I think it was an old, lowered musclecar in a reflective paintscheme.

Was pointing out to cpl_richie that you could win the Tom's Chaser again.

Comon now, is that really cheating? Polyphony's got better things to worry about than making millions of people frustrated trying to win that special car. Like, you know, preventing REAL cheating online...

I hardly call it cheating anyway, i've used it to win a certain car i want, usually because i have the others (or don't think winning a Vitz/Yaris is much of a prize!) but even so have had to try 15-20+ times to get the one i want - there was no way on earth i going to compete in the Formula GT championship, all ten races 20 times just get a certain 'missing' car into my garage - i have a life!

This 'cheat' has kept my interested in GT3 much longer than it would have done had it been 'impossible' to win the car i wanted to drive by 'cheating' the random selection process.

100% for secret cars.

Even GT3 isn't a right example of "secret car" issue. "Used cars" section of first GT had an "day-driven" system where some cars could be obtained only in certain "weeks" or in certain time periods.

I wish for that system, because it was forcing you to check all the used car garages for treats like 22B.

Never did manage to get that damn 22B!!!

yeti
Surely you only needed to check the used Subaru garage?!

C.

Yup - but the stock always changes, even if a certain car is there one day, doesn't mean its going to be in there tomorrow (in GT days)
