In this article, KY says, regarding the fixed viewpoint behind the car :

"Regarding the viewpoint you mentioned, yes that's new. I had always been aware that, with the camera fixed behind the car, it's easier than the other viewpoint behind the car that sways. Obviously because with fixed it is easier to visualise or see the course. However by doing so, the gameplay in terms of the dynamics of the car and the movement is reduced."

and :

"I've always been aware of the fact that this viewpoint was something users looked for in a racing game, but I always try to recommend the drivers' viewpoint. But by looking at the trends and characteristics in gamers who select viewpoints, I think although drivers' viewpoint is key, this new view was important to answer the needs of the users."

I think he makes a terrible mistake here, introducing an angle that nobody will use, while the dynamic far-away angle in GT2 was so much better. :nervous:

This has also been discussed in this thread, but I think it's usefull to have it sorted out in a poll.

While I've only ever used Bumper cam I can see that a lot of people would like different camera angles...

and frankly there's a model there for showing a camera from outside of the car so why it can't be adjusted to your own personal needs then I don't know (On a programming scale of things this would be pretty easy!!)

The fixed angle camera in GT4P is useful in the tests, especially when following the blue/white/red dotted line, but apart from that its a little 'remote' for racing.

I use this view all the time in GT4P but the rigid felling makes it feel like I'm playing SNES F-zero it really takes the game back a step in realism (like that poxy 10 sec penalty but thats a different thread) why didnt they stick with the far view from GT1-2?? In saying all that though I use it all the time :dunce: the bumper views too close for me.

Thanks for the reactions up to here!

Another setback of both 3th person views in GT4-P is imo the absence of an accurate RPM-meter.
So I use the bumper view (with good RPM-meter) to start and accelerate, then quickly switch to the second camera angle before the first corner :sly:

Personally i get most enjoyment from 'seing' the car i'm driving.

i dream about a real cockpit view; i'm not interested in behind view.

i hope next GT will have a view like the one in f355 by Sega or Toca2's internal view or RAllysportChallenge2's internal view or WRC3 internal view (very good).

you're missing several options in your poll list... where are:

> Cockpit view with Bonnet/Hood
> Raised Cockpit view

?????? Mostly all serious GT players use in car (bumper cam) while driving.

The only view I ever use is the bumper cam... although to call it a bumper cam isn't really accurate. The height is what it should be for the driver's perspective, it just doesn't have the hood.

I would like there to be a view that includes the hood/bonnet, and have the view a bit elastic - when you hit bumps, the drivers perspective moves slightly in relation to the hood.

Since it's all rendered vector graphics I don't understand why they don't make all the views possible, or even create an interface for setting up your own race viewpoint.

Such as in many flight sims, when in external view you can hold ctrl and use the keypad to move the camera forward back left and right. This would be quite handy if we could have a customisable view.

I'm with phantasm (again ;)).
What I'm most looking forward to is a cockpit view, but not necessarily including the windshield. Just the hood will be fine.

Other than that, I'll keep using the bumper view. It's by far what gives you better control of the car.

They have to hood cam in TOCA2. It's pretty cool. The camera isn't mounted in the center, so it's like your really sitting in the car. The high, fixed camera it pretty good. I will switch between that and the bumper cam. I will use the high camera for races where I blow the opponents away. I will use the bumper cam when the race is close, for more precision.

That was purposely done. The aim of the poll is to see if the fixed chase view is preferred over the dynamic chase view. The aim was not to find out which camera angle is preferred.

As for your last remark, I prefer cockpit view in GPL. In GT the bumper view doesn't give me enough references. And I find it boring that the only indication of the car you're in are the sound and the acceleration/handling.

That would be the ideal solution. But I have the impression that PD wants to keep it so simple that a 5 year old boy can perfectly master the "driving simulator".

The best view in my opinion are the hood/bonnet! Been waiting for that since GT1! Bumper cam is ok, but not perfect. I Feel the car so much better with bonnet visible, like in TOCA or Colin McRae Rally! Although, the roof cam seen in Prologue seem really cool, but i think its not very suited for driving! Maybe!

The two views i cite:

> Raised Cockpit view

AREN'T in GT... they are new views that would be alternates from the current "bumper cam" view

As for the boring of the current in car view i agree... i've stated elsewhere it'd be nice if we at least get unique gauges depending on what car we're in... ie we're in a S2000 we have the tach and digital speedo just like in the real thing, 350Z the huge centre RPM guage, etc. Would add some more atmosphere to the in game view.

I'm not sure which game it was, but they had a windshield type cam, where the hood was visible. I think it was Colin Mcrae 2, man did that ever look dorky. It honestly looked like a baby's bib. I'm fine with the bumper/front cam. I'd definately use a feature where you can custom modify your own viewpoint. As long as it's not that dumb on-top-of-your car cam like in NFS Hot Pursuit2. That was complete garbage...

I actually love the new camera angle. I never could use the behind the car view in GT3 because the camera swayed too slowly. It seemed to me the camera angle in GT3 was just there to admire your car, not to actually race with. While I still use the bumper cam 99% of the time, I have used the new camera angle to learn the tracks and to better prepare myself for some of the harder tests.

I wonder if you ever played GT1 or GT2. What did you think about the dynamic far behind view there?

Already 25 votes, great 👍 , please non-voters, give your opinion too.

I just noticed that the wide behind view is fine to focus on the car. If you want to focus on the road however, the dynamic (now only available in close) view is better.
During smaller movements of the car, the road before remains in the same position on the screen.

Yes there are. I know I've seen the Chevy S10 for sure.

Not sure how this applies to camera angles though.
SSR is confirmed... i was just thinking the same thing too... reading posts about camera angles, then "Will trucks be in GT?" ... wow, i just don't get people's thought patterns or lack thereof sometimes

BTW speaking of camera angles, will Ferrari and Porsche be in GT? :sly: THinK PeoPLe THiNk, then post :ouch:

I actually find the new 3rd cam very useful, and a lot better than the other external cam. It gives an excellent view of the road, and doesn't throw you off with camera sway. I use it most of the time when using a DS2. I switch to bumper for wheel use though.

I personally think we need better replay camera options...
