Seeing the Olympics are about to start I thought this topic may be of interest.
GT3 racing should be introduced as an Olympic sport and replace Tennis.
There could be competions for most percentage complete in 14 days.
Fastest lap times.
One on one races as a knockout event.
Fastest 400 and 1000 m times.
Fastest Gold Medal times.
Team events.

What better way for Sony to promote GT3, and maybe GT4 will be ready for 2008.
Imagine the glory in getting Gold for your country.

What are your ideas.

How would each country pick there team of drivers?
What drugs would be banned?

Maybe GTP could run a mini Olympics.

"Virtual Olympic Games" already exist. This year, it's gonna take place in San Francisco and the last 3 years, it was in Seoul.

It's called the World Cyber Games. Unfortunately, Need for Speed Underground has been prefered to Gran Turismo... Sad.... *Angry...!!!!!!*

Nfs underground sucks !!!!!!! The point of the game becomes making everything into a rice rocket !! gggrrrr :grumpy:
lol! But I have to agree. I never understood why NFSU has been selected to be an official WCG game for 2004 instead of Gran Turismo. We all know that it is pretty easy to complete some courses in NFSU. Just go at full throttle, don't crash, avoid mistake and that's it. With GT3, you have to manage tire wear, be regular and pretty fast at that level, don't brake too early or too late, change your tire, being regular for at least 10 laps, and so on. And everyone is having the same car on track. :)

You could have the whole world participating if nfs : u was in the virtual olympics (which it is sadly)

Well , the only reason to that should be : EA payed them to choose NFS:U as official WCG game for 2004.

I'd be surprised of that... As far as I know, only members of WCG website can choose the game. Some month ago, they sent us a news letter with a link to a poll for selecting the game in the next WCG edition. I doubt that EA has changed something in the result...

Yes there is prize money involved for the top 3.

From NYC to PHILY the prize money was:
1st: 1000.00
2nd: 500.00
3rd: 250.00

Then because of poor turnouts, all less than 10 people per event. MLG HAD "and I dont blame them, cause i'd done the same" had to reduce payouts.

From Dallas to Atlanta
1st: 500.00
2nd: 200.00
3rd: 100.00

Yet again they've had to lower the payouts because of the same lackluster turnouts :(

Seattle to the end of this season.
1st: 250.00
2nd: 125.00
3rd: 75.00
I know 1st is 250.00 now and IIRC I have 2nd and 3rd's payouts correct. If not then its 150.00, 100.00. Me max and hogster found out the new payout list when we were working with the MLG guys on the cars and track lists and rules for the tourneys.

The LasVegas Allstars tourney will be double money, from what i've been told. But its invatation only soooo, if anyone on the west coast Seattle, San Fransico, and Las Angeles areas want to go. Then they have to show up and win/place well at the 3 west coast events.

If more people would have gone to the events then the payouts would still be freakin awesome like they were in NYC. Its only 25.00 for the entry fee. They are looking to have atleast 20 people per event. Even if they stood no chance of winning these mlg events are fun after the money racing is over. In all of the events we've had great I'linking after the events :) The payouts would still be like they were like in NYC-Philly, if people had been showing up. I've know of quite a few people in each city that could have gone just by looking at their locations. Heck I knew of 6 people in the Dallas area who could have gone but they didnt. IF gt3 was in the gamming olympics then the same thing would be happening.

MLG's intention is to keep GT3 going until GT4 comes out. Maybe then we will see better turnouts.

What about GT long jump? Drive toward a ramp from a certain distance up and over then measure the furthest jump. Great fun for a few minutes I suppose.
