I apologize for our extended downtime of nearly 24 hours. Apache died on our server yesterday (the 16th), and defied all logic. Nothing I could do would get it to start again. The issue baffled some of the most knowledgeable Linux and Apache administrators I could find. But, finally Roy of Pixie Hosting suggested a possible location of the problem and sure enough he was correct. Many thanks goes out to Roy and all the other administrators who have helped me through this.

I got scared there. 24h without notice of downtime is worrying. It's good to know that you got everything working again 👍

Will you explain the problem in detail, or do you have a reference to where we can read about it in case something similar happens to one of our servers (at work that is, not home...)

Cheers, and again Jordan, thank you for your, once again, amazing effort 👍

It's great to see GTP back 👍

Nice. Good thing LFS kept me busy.
I just had a stupid conversation with famine all night. :dopey:

What made it so difficult to diagnose was the fact that there were no error messages, nothing recorded in Apache's logs...nothing. The problem was finally found to be caused by Turck mmCache. Once mmCache's configuration lines were removed from php.ini, I restarted Apache and everything came back to life. It had never given me problems since it was installed, so it was the last thing I expected to completely bring Apache down at random. Needless to say I'll be staying far, far away from it now.

Whew!
And here I was, thinking my PM to Fogelhund had crashed the website.
Sure... ;)

Oh well, the downtime wasn't too bad, kept myself occupied with my good friend Television (Yay, Canada won a medal finally!).

Excellent work, Jordan and associates! I too was afraid I was going to have to organize a lynching party. Mind you, I would have been willing to do so...

Thanks Jordan - Issue has been inserted into the little black book !......

Why are all the downtimes when we have to submit times for the WRS??
Gives you more time to shave a few thousandths off that time! :sly:

Yeah, I'm a huge fan of the Olympics so I thought the Athens logo would be great during the games. :)

Glad to see everything is back on track!

I thought maybe it was another DOS attack, or some other punk who did something malicious, but I'm glad to hear it wasn't the case.

Well, on the bright side, I got my homework done early. :) Good to see it back though – it's like being locked out of your summer home for several days.

Thanks for the hard work Jordan :). For a second there I though my IT people had blocked this url from me :scared:

I think it's time to go to a dual fail-over system using High-Availability technology to ensure your visitors the most rewarding experience while viewing the GTPlanet forums.

Yeah.

Hmm so this is just temporary? And then are you gonna return to your old avatar or new one? I have little something special that vipfreak is doing for me.
Here is what he is resizing for me-
You like it?http://gtplanet.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=28598
Yes, it is temporary. I do like the avatar you linked to there, very nice.

Yeah.
Yeah. :p We're going to have to sell a hell of lot of thongs to pay for that.

Oh good Lord. I think I'm going to be sick...

Actually, that's a point, Jordan. How about selling GTP barfbags?

I'm slowly warming up my wife to letting me snap a seductive pose of her in the one I bought for her.

I'm a very happy hubby.

One forwards, one backwards; so where's the third one?
