On average how many new people join this forum a day?
FamineRight now, GTP has 34,090 members. It's been running for 1194 days (well 1193 and today). That makes a grand average of...
28.6 new members every day - but that's an overall average, rather than the current rate.
With 1,201,638 posts made so far (although this one is number 1,213,398, meaning nearly 12,000 posts have been deleted/purged), that means GTP is growing by just over 1006 posts each day - and I only make 14 of them, so it's not my fault.
FamineIndeed - hence my disclaimer..
There's 44,799 threads currently. That makes 37.5 new threads a day - and not all of them are John's [SPECIAL TOPIC]s.
JordanWe usually get 80 to 100 new user registrations per day.
And how many of those users actually post?

Yeah, but there's a handful of post-whoring-greedy-for-an-avatar-dodos around here that are extinct by now.Famine...the average member has made just under 138 posts. So everyone who has their own avatar is better than average. Hurrah!
Double-edged sword? You guys make it sound as if user registrations are some kind of bad thing! Regardless of whether they post or not, they are spending more time at the site, increasing revenue, and submitting their email address as well, a very valuable thing to have! Now their inbox will have reminders of GTP, they'll get birthday messages and new post notifications from any thread they subscribe to, any newsletter I send out, etc., all of which will bring a lot of them back for yet another visit. And every time they visit it gives them another chance to make their first post which will dramatically increase their chances of getting involved in the site.Mike RotchThats the double-edged sword of having some of the most desireable downloads on the net.

Anything that increases the chances of a visitor getting involved in the community is NOT a bad thing!

JordanYeah, a lot of people think that (well, everybody), but the "physical space" taken up by each user account is about as insignificant as it gets.
Interesting notes there. Actually, I think the first "GTF migration" was in January 2001. Kenji closed the servers for a month, and everyone went elsewhere. I was one of them. Edit: Pupik was right. 2002.pupikYeah, but there's a handful of post-whoring-greedy-for-an-avatar-dodos around here that are extinct by now.
There's probably about another 10% that post once or twice, just for a quick question-and-answer; never to be seen again. I remember the days when only about one or two new members were created per day...you'd log in, and the same new member announcement was there twelve hours later.
Of course, then there was the "First GTF Migration" in February 2002; I can't believe the servers could handle the traffic at the time! They all got a warm welcome, too.
I just surfed back through 30 pages of members. That's 600 members. Of that, only 66 have posted. Of those 66, only one has posted more than 20 times.
I'm on page 34 before I find someone who's posted more than 100 posts. It was 198 pages (3945 members) before I found someone that could have a custom title. I was up to member 4554 before I found a second one. Member 4743 was #3. #4 was member 5138.
I made it all the way back to member #5618 before I found someone that could legally have a custom title. Congrats Victor Vance. I had a few more pages to go to reach member #5890 to find the second one (87chevy).
FamineIn three whole days we've gained 327 members (109 per day), 4308 posts (1436 per day) and 133 threads (44ish per day)
Yes, it has been brought up a million times before. Read my post above, there is virtually no reason to delete accounts at all.I know this topic has been brought up before, but if growth continues at its current rate could we soon be seeing users being deleted?
I don't believe that It should be hotmail style of 30days, or even 6months. But maybe nearer a year or possibly more.
Great idea, you'll find it now under "Edit Profile" on My GTPlanet, and it will be displayed on your profile. It is not specified by default, so you must change it yourself.Kinda off-topic, but You should add "Gender" in the profiles . I wanna se how many girls actually are here.
This feature was added when we upgraded to vB3, which was after your last birthday.I never got one of those.
Well, not technically. Posts are all stored together, the only way we know it's yours is because it's stuck with your user id in the database. The 1 or 2 KB's making up your profile data and user options are no more than anyone else's.Except mine. Obviously...
Stats update.

There was no sudden spike, it instead brought on a steady increase in traffic that has never really gone down so I can't determine the real impact of the article. After the exposure of GTP on Compact Car Magazine was there a big impact in guests or user registrations?
Don't worry about your math, Alex. There are 1140 pages of members at 20 members per page. That really flaws my math. Off to count how many members I've banned.
