I searched for a topic like this and couldn't find one so please spare me the 'this is old' commnts
Way back when I played GT3 I got to looking around online and finding lap times of guys. Here, at this very site there was a topic called Wankel Open, where the rules were 787b, and Midfield. Put up your best time (No course cutting)
I was able to get within something like .050 of the best speed. Then some guy came by and lowered the time by about .1 and put me .150 behind, but I didnt care, thats close enough.
Sure I havent played GT3 in a while, but I always get better as time passes. I also am very busy racing other sims, so I dont think rust will hurt me too much.
I also have compared my times to well known GT drivers like jmr, Weise, etc. My findings were I was able to come within one second to most of their times in a 787b or R390 GT1 at courses such as deep forest and grandvalley.
I once joined a lap time league which I guess was full of noobs, and was easly able to put up better times then them quite easily.
Also encouraging is the fact that I race a considerable amount online, against other real drivers, in situations where there is a couple of laps to go and someone is right on your tail and you have the pressure not to make a mistake. Alot of guys probably are fast driving by themselves in timetrial or something but to have a living, breathing human ahead of you or behind you can add a tremendous amount of mental pressure on you. It is SO much easier to make a mistake. Fotunatly, I am VERY comfortable with people driving right on my bumper, so I think that will give me an edge on other people who are new to online racing. I can see myself staying on a noob's bumper and just waiting for him to make a mistake, just to slip by with easy.
I have another memory of being at an Auto Tech school and a friend of mine bringing GT to class one day. He was able to beat the others in class quite wasily but when he faced me (I hadnt played the game in months) I was able to beat him by 20 seconds in a 5 lap race using Corvette C5Rs.
From what I've seen, I think I'll fair OK. I'm a second or 2 behind the best in the world, which means I should be better then 80% of the guys out there. Im not going to complain about that. 32,000 miles of GT3 better have been for something How about you?
