Drift Photo Competition : Week 1 Poll

Vote. I only accepted the pictures up through the original submission deadline. Anything else would be uncivilized. 51 pictures sure is alot to sort through isnt it?

Next week will have thumbnails. Also looks like maybe I forgot to set an end date for the poll? I was in a hurry to get it done kinda.

it would be much easier than to click on each one.

Yes, there is, but it means that everyone who sends in their image, must also provide a thumbnail image as well. OR it means the member producing the poll must create the thumbnails.

Theres an echo in the back of my mind telling me there is a way to do it in vB but I'm not positive.

I have ideas that I'll present later today regarding the polls and the grading, that I think will make it easier. We'll see if I can work it out.

There were some very nice images here. Congrats to all that participated.

because it was a mess and it would have taken HOURS to set it up like that since not everyone posted thumbnails. its only going to be this week like this. and DA, look forward to hearing your suggestions because other than posting thumbnails im out of ideas

well then only enter people who uses imageshack..

Excellent! I think this idea is great. Just a bit difficult to manage on such a large scale. So anything that would make it more organized and streamlined would be great.

I don't think there's enough people in the forum to vote for this many files. I say we have a panel of esteemed judges decide which are the best 10, then have people vote on those 10. I would certainly trust the admins, and regular posters to choose the best 10 each week. Maybe a panel of 5 judges to determine the top 10?

Who knows, I'm just shooting off ideas.

burnout that is a great idea. im trying to think how this would be implemented.

one issue is can the judges have photos in the competition? maybe as long as they are not lobbying for their own picture i think it could be okay.

we would definately need a few people to help narrow it down. maybe if each of the 5 chose their 10 favorite, sent the names to me, and then we took the most popular 10 and put them in the poll.

now the only issue with this is ties. say there are 2 entrants with 4 votes, 5 with 3 votes, and 12 with 2 votes, etc.... technically i could pick my 3 favorites out of the 12, but that also may not be fair. I think the thing to do in this situation would be contact the 5 judges again and have them help narrow it down

A different Idea, pirated from the Photomode and Videos forum comp, since they are also having the same problem with posting 50 pictures and 80% of them dont even get 1 vote....

"The winner that picks the weeks theme also gets to weed through all the entries for his chosen theme, picking the best [10 or] 20. What do you think about that? Whoever doesn't make the cut... better luck next week."

well those are some ideas. would be great to hear some more input from everyone.

Hmmm... this is a toughey. I'm getting a little crazy with this, but here's another idea (nothing BAD has been mentioned yet, I'm just ranting more to keep creative juices flowing and whatnot)...

What if we start a new thread, or edit this one, and have people nominate themselves as judges, then have the forum vote on those, say, 5-10 people, then pick the top 5 people to be judges. The judges can then sort through every picture each week (it's not TOO bad of a chore I did it when I voted 👍 ) and pick their top 25. They can then assign a points system. So say I think image "x" is the best image this week, so it's number 1 out of 25 for me (this is assuming there are more than 25 entries each week, but I don't think that will be an issue ). So we do points = inverse rank. Meaning rank 1 gets 25 points, rank 25 gets 1 point. You then take all of their ranks, assign all the points to the pictures (like, go down the list of pictures and check to see if the picture is ranked for each person, and what rank it's at) and then add up the points value for each picture.

I think that explains it pretty well.

I'm a pretty mathematical person though, so some of you might be confused, if so lemme know and I'll explain further. I'd be willing to take each week's ranks from each judge and assign the points values and total them up. I could do it in 20-30 minutes

I understand exactly what you mean. We do the same thing for Nascar picks every week at work here. (1st place pick = 43 pts, last place = 1pt) The only issue is, is it really worth that much effort to figure out?

between sending pms back and forth and figuring out all the numbers between people, it would probably take a couple days just to figure out what entries will be in the poll.

I would think 15 is enough pictures. For example, this week I would pick 15 out of the week 2 entries, then we could have the winner from week 1 choose a theme for week 3 and while the poll for week 2 is happening, week 3 contest would be posted, that way there is always a poll and entry thread available.

Burnout, thanks for sharing your ideas, they were really really good. I dont know if you were around on the GT3 boards, but do you remember the video competitions? Those are the types of competitions where I think a board of judges would be apropriate, because the judges would obviously have to understand how to judge, angle, technique, driving line, etc. Here we are just judging photos, and since we will have pretty much 1 contest a week, there will always be the opportunity to enter photos in a contest, not to mention theres photo competitions in another part of the messageboards as well that are open to everyone.

Ill try to get something going tonight for this.

That is, without a doubt, the easiest way to do it, and certainly more incentive for someone to want to win the competitions, so it works even better in many ways. The only issue I could EVER see with that is if someone wins and then picks their friend to win the next week just because they're their friend. I don't think this would ever be an issue, but just something to look out for.

Also, I was not around GTP during my GT3 drifting days, I came here a long time ago (some time last year) and got a bunch of drift videos, and then I started drifting in GT3. But once GT4 came out, I knew it was time for me to join up with you guys

Yes, I thought of that too. Its pretty much unavoidable if it did happen. Another thing, holding grudges. what if someone didnt make it one week, and holds it against the person who picked the pictures? Hopefully people wont take it that seriously, as its just a game, and these photo competitions are just for fun anyways. Even if you didnt end up in the poll, everyone still can view your picture through the entry thread, and there is always another photo comp going on.

Week 2 poll should be up by tonight, and will run for one week. Week 3 entry should be up by tomorrow hopefully, that is if the tie for week 1 is broken before then
