The latest high performance variant of the SC/8T made its debut at the 2005 Concorso Italiano in Monterey, CA. The car was specifically created to challenge the 250 mph barrier, and with recent top speed attempts by Koenigsegg and Bugatti, the car will have to achieve that number if it wants to hold the title of 'World's Fastest Production Car'. Following the original 2001 model and an updated 2002 model, the 2004 version features enhanced body work with improved downforce at higher speed, as well as a supercharged version of the V8 engine in the standard car. The supercharger helps the car make just over 1,000 hp, topping the Bugatti Veyron. The car is also lighter by 250 pounds due to lightweight materials. The

bodywork alone weighs under 150 lbs. The visual differences can mostly be seen in the rear of the car, which is sloped behind the cockpit and ends in a small spoiler. Using the testing in the windtunnel, the 250 mph should be achievable if a suitable track can be found. High speed test runs are planned for later this year.
 
Headlights are cheap, bumper is ugly. Color is ok..

I hope the title of "World's Fastest Production Car" doesn't go to a company no one has ever heard of. There's no prestige. Has SSC even built any cars? Or is it just a paperweight company who has a lot of extra money and decided to hire a team of engineers just for publicity. The car wouldn't even be close to feesable to build in bulk.... at all. I doubt it will go into production. It should just be a track car.

They will probably try to sell it in ultra limited quantities to special people, just enough to make it considered production.

Errh.... Bugatti had no previous work to boast of when they built the EB... (they had the name, yes, but it was technically a brand new company), and that flopped disastrously (but the car was wonderful)... so I guess this new Bugatti is another brand new product... Koenigsegg had no history to speak of, nor did Pagani... and Pagani at least, has no lack of passion or prestige.

But, yeah... the name SSC doen't tickle my testicles either. :indiff:

And how many people do you think had heard of McLaren Road Car (McLarenCarsLimited) company before the F1 record?
Or even Koenigsegg when it had the record?

The EB110 was built by Bugatti automobile spa, the same company as the type 52 was, that had history. The Veyron is built by Bugatti automobile sas, a different cmpany which didn't build thoes great Bugatti's of old.

the saleen ? Why ?

I thought it looked familiar, but I wasn't sure. I thought it was maybe from the same company, but anyway it looks much better than that SSC.
 
I gotta say I am with you there, I think the Saleen looks realy wicked, even though they might have overdone it with the million vents...but the awesome performance potential in th SCC model is just amazing .

Anyone who watched it win Le Mans in '95. And that's quite a few people. Besides, at least they built McLaren F1's. There's no way they can build this thing to sell unless they want to go the way of Bugatti with it's EB110.

The F1 record though was when people really heard of the name.
 
Actually, the Bugatti name was revived for and killed with the EB110... they wasted so much damn money on that project, built their own factory from the ground up... for what? A limited production supercar that barely sold... poor optimistic... well, I won't call them fools, as they made a great car, but... :sick: ...The Bugatti that built the EB110, though, had about as much in common with the "old" Bugatti as the new "Mini" does with the old "Mini". Names and licenses are the same, the companies are not.

McLaren is a familiar name for racing fans, so it made some sense to make the F1 (not business sense, as such, but it did). Too bad they never completed the planned production run.

SSC has no famous brand name to build on, or racing credentials... or even glamorous links to the past (Fangio and Lambo for Pagani). As such, it's competing merely for street cred... and I can't help but think that won't matter to the potential customers, who would probably rather go for a glamorous car. Plus, it's an American company, making a claim of "fastest car"... hmmm... shades of Vector here... hope they pull it off this time.

This SuperCar market is getting too crowded. Porsche is thinking of ending Carrera GT production a bit early... God knows how all these up and coming companies are going to survive. With the current oil crisis in full-swing, and production car engines getting more and more powerful, we might experience another mass-car-extinction. All the same cars that died off last time have come back or are coming back... doesn't look good for the new players.

I think I read that porsche isn't shipping any more carrera gt's to the states because they won't comply with some airbag laws and it would be too expensive to try and retrofit ones that would.
