Not sure if anyone else runs into this problem, but my wife likes to "limit" my time in front of the wheel.

Tonight and tomorrow night, for a change, she's working. I am taking off early from work (excuse of putting the birds to bed) to kick back in front of the console to run a few laps. Looks like I'll attempt an endurance race tonight (Grand Valley maybe)

Does anyone else run into this problem or am I the lone married guy still doing this?

lol - Well, I'm not married, but run into the same problem all the time.

Geez - I did everything I could to a) try and get her into GT and then b) try to occupy her time elsewhere.

The get her into GT plan
  • Purchased a Civic coupe in the same color as hers
  • Bought a logitech wheel so it was more lifelike
  • Bribed
  • Whined

The keep her distracted plan
  • Bought another TV so she could watch TV in another room
  • Bought a N64 for the other TV in the other room
  • Bought a SNES ('cause Mario was too different in 3D)
  • Bought a copy of Black and White for the PC
  • Upgraded my PC so she didn't complain about how slow B&W was

<sigh> I'd love to have some control over my life. lol

My wife likes to garden and quilt, so I often say "I'm going to quilt now" when I go to play GT3, or worrk on plastic models. :-)

I'm lucky, she looks on it as an equivalent hobby.

A few things I've found helpful:

- I save often, so if she wants to talk about something or asks me to run an errand I can immediately turn of the PS2 and don't lose much.

- I support her hobbies, I spent last weekend building her a coldframe. And I've spent a few hours over the past month going with her shopping for fabrics.

- I set up the computer so she has a username with a homepage that has all her favorite links on it. And I always stop (or pause) GT3 immediately to help her if she has an Internet or e-mail problem

I think that's pretty much the way to go.

I'm "bach-ing" currently (indefinitely it appears ...), but I think I've got most things figured out in the guy/girl relationship parts of life. We're nearly worthless without a woman in our life (long term), so find a good one and make sure she's happy. Little inconvieniences are a small price to pay for undieing companionship.

I think getting her into GT3 is the best solution for your problem, Der Alta (: Pink Vitz! Pink Vitz!

lol - I tried that!

hahaha - she just said "This car sucks worse than my civic" and threw the controller down in disgust.

And I always assumed she had no taste - (ie - she lives with me)

Well, I just have to say that my marriage survived the completion of GT3... ;)

Your not alone man, your not alone!

I think the saving-often-so-you-can-shut-the-system-down-at-a-moment's-notice plan is the way to go, definitely!
I have to say I'm pretty lucky; my wife doesn't really care whether I'm playing the game for a few hours or not.
She doesn't understand when I get miffed and hold forth with a string of expletives, but she thinks its funny... :) And I also tried the "get her into GT" tactic with no results. Ah well....

She lets me play my game, and I put it on pause whenever she asks me to run an errand or do something for her. It works out well.

i normally bribe my girlfriend by saying that if she lets me play GT3 all night, then she can drive my BMW to work for a week. (it normally works because she drives a golf)

well guys ive survived 100% GT3 several times with my wife :) One way i solved the problem was to buy her her own PS2 when Silent Hill 2 came out (so i didnt have to fight her for the controller ) :) Go figure she beat it on easy and doesnt even play on it now. Oh well :( Ive tried getting her into GT but she just isnt interested . She only likes to pick the color of the cars that i keep :) But on the other hand.... Im gettin my 1 and 1/2 year old daughter into it :) She knows that X is gas and it makes the car goes so time will tell ....Cant wait till she understand the concept of try to beat daddy :)

Hehe!! I've kinda got that problem with my dad. Around 8 o' clock almost every night he wants to watch the news and sh... on the big -say HUGE- screen so I have to move over to a regular sized TV in another room

Poor me :p :p

lol - See if you can work a deal - My buddy has a deal worked out with his gf - the've got a 61" TV so if she's complaining, he'll just run the PS2 through on the PIP

Hmm... which would give you a 'bout 25" screen to play it on... which is about the same as moving to a regular size TV.

Perhaps we should all just ignore this response.

Roads were crappy, took longer to get home.
Birds were noisy, and none wanted to go to bed.
I couldn't concentrate with 2 macaws, and 2 cockatoos making with the volume. Finally got them to bed, ran to the store to get beer. (Keeps the missus happy)

by the time I'm home, She's back from work, having gotten out early. So...No playtime for me last night.

At least tonight she works until 10. I'll attempt an endurance race.

I've tried getting her into playing. When we first got the game, she whacked a few of the license tests out of the way, and was picking up speed in the races. I thought it would be nice to get her a memory card of her own. I raced her in the Beetle RSI, and her in the escudo, round Midfield, 2 laps. I managed to beat her by 12 seconds.

I have learned that if she starts to get upset at me, I just pop her favorite head basking game into the Dreamcast, and she paste me across the walls. All the while, laughing histerically. Really makes my blood boil.

Soon...I shall have the HD widescreen, and then I can play PIP.

Thanks guys for letting me know I'm not alone.

Till later,
AO

Der Alta,

lol - thanks for the update. :)

Just finished my mortgage pre-approval process - I was sure to factor in an additional $5k for the HDTV

Buy her some champagne, shoes or anything sparkly. It confuses them... you'll get a good 3 or 4 hours before she realises. ;) :p

Oh, and loads of tequila and cocaine for her... there's a full night's session (at a cost :( )!

Hmmm...Never thought to add the extra cash into the pre-approval process. Of course if the wife knew we had an extra $5grand I might not get the TV.

Update: Managed to start the PD cup at the end of professional. Had to try it a bit different though. When putting the scarlet macaw to bed, he decided my thumb looked tasty. After a good battle, and a mildly upset bird was caged, I set about to band-aid up my thumb, and index finger.

Had to run to the store to get food, and then cook something at home. By this time it was 9:30pm. Wife was due home in 1/2 hour. Not enough time to finish an endurance race. So...I started the PD cup at the end of Professional.

Settling in for a race, with a cold Pete's Wicked at my side, I found that I couldn't work the buttons due to the pain. Had to switch to analog sticks for the first time.

Ran a R390 road car through the first race, and actually enjoyed racing for the first time in a long time. Wife arrived just as I was saving. Damn...At least she works on Saturday so I'll get a few more hours in. Maybe get a few more out of the way.

Thanks for the insight guys.

BTW: no coke or tequila. A good 12 pack of Long trail ale will do it every time!

Till later,
AO

If you did all that for a chick you're not married to then you're pretty much whipped.

hahaha - <shrug> Whipped or practical?

1) the most important point - this keeps her happy. Happy=lovin' lol

2) Now I've got a steering wheel for the rally races (I only enjoy it with the rally races)

3) Now I've got a spare TV

4) Now I've got a new N64 (I dumped mine a while ago) - So, I've started back in playin' GoldenEye

5) Now I've got Black and White (but who's) and an upgraded PC.

So, all things considered, *everything* there I benefit from. I s'poses it's better than sending her to yoga or knitting classes - I can't see any benefit from either one.

** Edit ** Hmm... now that I think about it - Yoga increases flexability right? <looking back at #1 on the list> :D

My mother makes such a fuss. So I have the PS2 at my dads with GT3, rigged upto a Hifi for max sound effect. My dad works alot so I can race for as long as I want.
