Super GT All-Star Race - Laguna Seca 200 Miles

Storyline: After the cancellation of the Super GT All-Star Race that was to take place at California Speedway, the organizers of the Super GT Series and the operators of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca have reached an agreement to hold the race at the classic Northern California circuit. For Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, this will be their second major inaugural event this year, as this past July, they hosted the first MotoGP United States Grand Prix in eleven years. Most of the Super GT field has agreed to field an entry, so this has become one of the most anticipated races of the season.

Rules
* Race will be the Laguna Seca 200 Miles under Endurance races in Gran Turismo mode.
* Cars will be available on a first-claimed, first-reserved basis. Drivers will choose one of the three eligible Gran Turismo cars and will then choose one of the 2005 Super GT entries to represent. The Gran Turismo car and the Super GT car must be from the same manufacturer.

* Suspension, aerodynamic and gear settings may be changed. The car’s horsepower must remain stock as purchased or won, except for oil changes.
* Ballast weight has been added to several cars in an effort to achieve parity between the makes. Cars must race with the ballast weight listed in the rules. Drivers who choose the Toyota Supra must add 200 kg of ballast. Drivers who choose the Nissan Fairlady Z must also add 200 kg of ballast.
* Stability management (ASM) must be set at 0. Traction control (TCS) is at the driver’s discretion.

* Standard on-line racing rules apply. Drivers must keep at least two wheels on the track/kerbs at all times (no wall-riding, grass/track cutting, etc.). Avoid unnecessary contact with AI opponents.

* Qualifying will take place from midnight US Eastern Time Monday, 5 Dec. to midnight US ET Thursday, 9 Dec. In Gran Turismo mode, drivers should go into Original Circuits/Laguna Seca/Practice. Drivers will post their best single lap time, including sector times, in the forum thread. Drivers may post as many qualifying laps as they wish. Soft compound tires and different suspension set-ups may be used for qualifying.
* After qualifying, time will be added to each driver's race time depending on their qualifying position. Each row will have 1.0 second added to the race time. (Row 2: +1.0 sec. / Row 3: +2.0 sec. / Row 4: +3.0 sec.)

* Drivers may have unlimited practice, but may only do the race one time.
* Drivers must PM:
- Car number/Car/car horsepower/car weight
- Race tire compound
- Race time at the end of laps 1, 30, 60 and 90
- Fastest race lap
- Pit record (lap, tires, fuel)
- Incident record
- Driver comments
A race summary (spins, contact, pit stops, etc.) for the race report is also requested. Any info about the race is welcome.
* All race times are due by midnight US Eastern Time Sunday, 11 Dec.
* Results will be posted Monday, 12 Dec. A full race report will follow later that week.

I wanted to create a race using current Super GT cars and not the ones from 2000 and 2001, which comprise most of the GT4 JGTC lineup. So I took the latest cars from the three Super GT manufacturers. I wanted to make them as equal as possible, since the Honda has been severely handicapped by PD.

I bought each of the cars and changed their settings (downforce, gearing, suspension, etc.) to maximize their performance at Laguna Seca. I did over 1200 miles of testing, first doing 10 lap runs in both qualifying and race setups, making small adjustments to the cars and their ballast weights to equalize their performance. When I was satisfied that they would achieve similar performance levels, I did the Laguna Seca 200 Miles race with each car.

Each car lapped within a few tenths of each other. Speed-wise, the Toyota is fastest, followed closely by the Nissan and the Honda. With regard to tire wear, the Honda could go the longest on a set of race tires, doing several laps more than the Nissan, who in turn could go a lap or two longer than the Toyota.

I believe I have made the cars as equal as possible, so that no one has "the car" that can dominate. I hope this answers any question about the ballast weights and the relative performance of the cars.

Well, now they'll have to. The Nissan is the "middle ground" car. The Toyota was slightly faster and the Honda could go a little further on tires. In the races I did with all three cars, it really balanced out at the end of 90 laps.

The Bandai Toyota Supra is car number 34 in real life, so if you want to have the Bandai car, you have car number 34, not 20

My Most Sincere Apologies to Sjenk for NOT answering your PM! I was having TONS of problems w/my Logitech Pedals at the time & have in fact now adapted my MOMO pedals to work with my DFPro! 👍 I still have your PM so re-examined the race you referred me to...WAY too complex a Rule page I'm a simple guy...I like rules that say..."Take "X" car to "Y" track & see how fast you can go." Any hint of RPG & I lose interest. But THANX for thinking of me anyway!...O.G.

lol, there aren't that many rules rules In the GT class you need to add some weight in some cars since they are too good for other GT cars, but there are no rules in the LMP class (ok, don't use Group C cars, but that's not a difficult rule )

I just want to thank all of you again for signing up. 👍 You have my deepest appreciation. I hope everyone has been getting lots of practice at Laguna Seca, as official qualifying starts next Monday. If we have a qualifying battle half as good as the first ESES race, I'd be happy. (For anyone who isn't familiar, in the first ESES LMP qualifying, we traded pole position so many times I lost count.)

Going to have lots of runs on Laguna this next couple of weeks i can see. Racing in the JGTC at Laguna this next week and this race also, and in the same car too, going to be doing laps in my sleep Poor thumbs are going to be hurting after this. 👍 👍
