Alright, I've got a super-annoying problem here. Every time I go into a thread (or different thread page), the hwole page freezes for a good 20-30 seconds (I've timed it) before coming back around. This saounds not too bad, but it's really really annoying when you have to get through 20 threads a visit. This has only been happening the past few days, mainly when I started noticing those little word-linked adverts scattered about.

And no, it's not "your computer's problem, man" because it only happens with GTP, and only recently started doing it. It is only with GTP threads.

What can I do? This is so terribly annoying (try doing your rounds of the boards, and every time you change threads, look away at your watch for 25 seconds, do it for every thread), and if it goes on without any remedy, it is somehting that I would seriously consider leaving this community over, that's how bad it is.

Anything I can do to fix this pain in the caboose?
 
*waits 20 seconds for page to unfreeze*

Internet Explorer v.6.0.2900, and I haven't fidelled with any of the settings or anything.
 
The Kontera links are probably causing the problem. Try disabling them in your User Options in My GTPlanet.
 
I've been having a bit of lag. My connection is superb here and I am clean of spyware and viruses for the fisrt time in a while.

I'll try the kontera links thing.

MUCH quicker with the pop-up and Kontera links disabled.
 
GTP has been going incredibly slow for me, while scrolling the page also 'jumps (i.e. doesn't scroll smoothly - same thing happens in the GamePlanet forums). So i've turned off avatars, signatures and pictures as well as the text links and pop up ads.

The page freezing (completely, always resulting in me having to terminate IE and open it again) has stopped, but now i can't view images etc.

I have broadband, a reasonably quick computer and the newest version of everything web related (IE etc).

I think this place is starting to get too big for its own good, which i'm not blaming anyone for. Doesn't seem to be as friendly as it used to (surprisingly the GTX appears to be more friendly now - never thought i'd say that!) either which is a shame.

But alas. I will never forget about this place, or the fact i am the 18th registered member. :D :cool:
 
That's very strange. Everything looks to be running smoothly and I don't seem to be having any of the problems you've described (neither here nor GamePlanet). Do they occur across the site for you, or just on the forums? How is GTP Lite? Can you run a traceroute or ping to our server and post the results? I seriously doubt it's a connectivity issue, but you never know. I feel we've got sufficient computing power to run the site, so I don't think size could be an issue, either.
 
The same here. I use Netscape 7.1 and only gtp is freezing. As you said Jordan, kona kontera seems to be one problem. I'm not sure, but it's not always just that sponsor tbh. Sth is wrong here, I kind of got used to the freezing already:D
It's kind of annoying at first, after a while...well... ;)
It's more like 10-15 sec in my case though. My browser doesn't crash nor does my system. Would be great if you could at least try to minmize the length of the freezes. Can't be my connection, I have between 2 and 6 Mbit and no problems at all on other pages. I only use the gtp forum, so I don't know how it is on the other areas of gtp.

EDIT : wow after I disabeled popups and the green-inpostads the site is running totally smooth. Thx for the hint :)
 
GTP is going alright now i've turned everything off, pages aren't really 'jumping' down when scrolling anymore. :)

But GamePlanet... i don't know what it is with that place. I usually click and grab the scrollbar with the mouse and drag it down to see what topics there are, and it is almost always jumpy, just doesn't scroll smooth. Can't really make any sense of it.

I might try turning avatars etc back on and see if the problem returns. And i've been using GTP Lite for a few days now, helped a little but not much. :cool:

EDIT: Avatars, signatures and images back on and it still goes alright. Must have been the pop up ads and links in posts. :s
 
I had trouble with the "Laaaaaaaaaaaag" also. With pop-ups and links disabled, back to normal. Thanks, guys! :)
 
GTP runs TERRIBLY for me, to the point where I visit it much less often than I used to because it's just so slow. Not to mention that when I leave GTP open and I'm browsing another tab, it still bogs the performance under that tab too, so I hate to stay on GTP very long because it kills my computer. It's not like my computer's slow, either. I'm on the latest Firefox, whatever that is.

Disable the green text links in your User Options under My GTPlanet.
 
Hehe, when i saw this thread title, i thought it was going to be spam.

My site has been having this kinda problem. People have had lag on scrolling, but it was all sorted out by a background image problem.

No problems here :)
