I don't know quite what to make of this:

Apocalypto

Give Gibson credit for originality, that's for sure. It definitely isn't yet another remake. Here's the story line from the website:

APOCALYPTO: A heart-stopping mythic action-adventure set against the turbulent end times of the once-great Mayan civilization. When his idyllic existence is brutally disrupted by a violent invading force, a man is taken on a perilous journey to a world ruled by fear and oppression where a harrowing end awaits him. Through a twist of fate and spurred by the power of his love for his woman and his family he will make a desperate break to return home and to ultimately save his way of life.

Certainly it'll be something we haven't seen before, and considering what we've been getting lately, that'll be something right there.

Still, this seems like it could be a tough one to get right. We'll see if Gibson can make it work.

Hmmm, didn't seem to have much dialogue did it.

If mels got owt to do with it im sure it will be reasonable, i personally like Passion of the christ and Braveheart. I will wait to see if this is any good, but from the trailer im left with no impression, as nothing really happend.

Well yeah, Mel Gibson films are normally good, but the trailer didn't do anything for me.

...I wonder if he has resurrected an ancient language for this?

I was wondering the same thing and sure enough, they will speak "Yucatec", which dates back 5000 years:

Apparently it won't need to be resurrected, however, because lots of people around the Yucatan Peninsula are still speaking it today! I had no idea:

wow interesting, now thats made me more interested in this film alot more, i hate dubbing of english over foreign language film, and i hate it when you know they should be speaking a different language but they speak perfectly good english. thank for the info Zardoz. 👍

Saw the trailer in front of V For Vendetta. This looks tremendously weird and a tad stupid, and I'm not sure I'm even going to bother seeing it.

I get the feeling this will be a very visual film. I wonder if Gibson is using the same cinematographer he used on The Passion?

Kinda dead thread, but i thought this movie was awesome. I never thought natives could be so funny (thats just the beginning of the movie though). Jaguar Paw is awesome!
