Except, unlike "Ride the Lightning" and other posts, I'm planning to try to see how long I can stand to be without my GT4 :nervous: and just leave the Cadillac Cien ('02) doing laps around the Test oval for as many laps as possible.

Last I checked, i'd put about 20k + miles on it in this manner, but I want to see how long i can go without GT4 and let it do a bunch of laps all in a row. Right now it's up to 2484 laps at 69:47'45. I don't recall, but isn't the Test Oval something like 6 miles? If anyone cares to do the math, that's probably a lot more miles.

Enclosed are some pictures I took minutes ago as proof. Any questions/Suggestions?

:dopey:

The Close-Up.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit:
Track Length: 6.43 Miles.
Laps (as of this Leg): 2484
Time (as of this Leg): 69:47'45

Total Miles Traveled in the first Leg of the Endurance:
15,972.12
Approximate Average Lap Time:
1'41.134
Average Speed:
229.5Mph (369.3Km/h)
@ 3x Speed (b-Spec Mode):
688.5Mph (1,108Km/h)

Distance Per Day:
16,524 Miles
26,592 Kilometers

Million Mile Mark Projection:
60 Days.

I don't know if I will be able to hold out that long...

Want to make any bets as to how many Laps/Miles/Hours (in game hours) I can go for without caving in to paranoia and ending it to save the game?

Update:
Today (04/10/2006) I woke to find the Clock had reset when it went past 99:99'99 to a reading of --:--'--. The Laps are still counting, so I think it's still working...

I've got to cut the endurance run short though, I've got to put on a demonstration of the GT4/DFP technology for a friend/collegue of mine who runs a driving safety class. Driving a vehicle known as a Skid Car. Follow the link to see a picture and get an explanation of the tests. I went through this class when I was working for Security Pros and had to drive a 80 mile per night route. The instructor of this class also has experience with car racing, so I thought that if he didn't see fit to include this (GT4/DFP/PS2) in the class, he would at least appreciate the game.

http://www.securitypros.us/drive2survive.htm

So that's why I will have to stop it Tomorrow, around 11am, Pacific Standard Time. I will let it go until then, and I'll document the entire process of oil change/car wash and a total mile update.

After the demonstration I plan to pick this right back up and try for another 5k + Laps.

I thought that my longing for GT4 was going to be the only factor that decided when I would stop the record attempt, well, I was wrong. 'Cause I got Tourist Trophy yesterday... And it is good.

Below you will find the Final Pictures detailing how far the car went, and how bad the Oil got!

That's 5,092 Full Laps, or 32,741.56 miles or 52,692.433 Kilometers (On one tank of gas and no oil changes!)

Here we see the car with it's full compliment of miles.

So, it's got 59,190.5 Miles now, minus the 32,741.56 miles I just put on it, that means it started this with 26,448.94 miles, so I wasn't too far off with what I thought it started with...

Imageshack.us is pretty much Down for the count, it's taken the last 5 minutes to try to upload another photo, so this is all you get for now :P

you coyld have taken from before and after shot of the car in the car wash.
see how much dirty it gets after doing all those miles.
but hey its too late for that now :)

your gonna have chocolate not oil after your done with that thing

good luck

and send me some candy out of that chocolate:)

good luck by the way at going without GT4

Currently surviving without GT4!! No Im not doing any B-spec mileage - I'm doing the ultimate endurance test, called university.

Just thought I'd point out that this thread has ended... I edited the initial entry, but the Topic stayed in the bottom of the page, so that is why I am replying now...

BTW: TT is great!

I wonder how the frame feels after so many constant miles. It probably reaches a bottom like the oil does. The Cien is squirrely enough without a destroyed chassis though...

One thing I am interested in is if the repairs (oil + Chassis refresh) bring it back to the same level as if you only did 1000 miles. It probably does. Probably a glass bottom so to speak. In reality though your engine would seize by 10k miles. Probably much less with such a torturous RPM and heat rate for so long. That brings up the question, do they change the oil on those 24h enduros? I know they change drivers every 4 hours or so usually but I would assume 24h of hard running would fry the oil and brakes pads. Tranny fluid would probably look like burnt cherry jam with metal sparkles too.

Good luck on your adventure! I still can't get it together to do 24h nurb and you're doing this insanity? I salute you!

The answer is no: brake pad changes are rare, oil changes are even rarer for the Le Mans 24hrs. I don't know how they manage it - but I guess having a bespoke oil cooler helps a lot, perhaps a dry sump also helps?

I know that in the Bathurst 24hrs they have to change brake pads on the V8 Supercars, simply because the cars are big and heavy, and they do a lot of heavy braking, sometimes from high speed. Sarthe has 4 zones of high speed braking, not sure if that is worse - but the cars typically have carbon brakes or something.

How did this thread get to this!!!?
Has nobody answered the original question?
I'd also imagine that the CIEN's tyres would be so worn out that the alloy wheels would be scraping on the ground, lol.
Are you sure Bob didn't go to sleep on his drive and crash? lol

CanfieldOO7
How did you manage only 1 tank of gas? Is there some sort of glitch in GT4 that does that for the Cien?

It's just the Test Track... You can't Pit, you can't run out of gas... it was kind-of a joke...

:P

Ahhh i get it

Im really new to this game so anyone who reads this forgive my n00bishness.

I just remember seeing a Pit in GT3 and didnt really look to see if its still there in GT4.

I've been reading the high mileage threads on this website for a while now, and congrats to the person who got to one million kilometres in a Volvo wagon.

I have over 800,000 miles on a 2003 Toyota Prius G Touring using the "Max Turbo" cheat on my Action Replay Max. I pressed R3 to activate the cheat, and any car will fly. I put the car in Photo Mode on the Test course, and held the R3 button (with the wheel as far right as possible) until the vehicle flew off the track. Once the vehicle was fully stopped (after a few seconds of spinning around like crazy), I set a heavy book on right analog stick (activating the R3 button) and left the room for a few hours. About four or five hours later, the car accumulated over 400,000 miles on it. Tried it a second time, and got over 800,000. I tried to do it a third time but the game froze up. But I did save it at 800,000 miles, though.

Basically, the oil looks as worn as it did when it first needed an oil change. Other than the low value of the car (about 300 credits) the vehicle still drives like it did when it had only 7,000 miles. Yeah, it could be considered "cheating", but I was just curious as to see how worn out the car would be at that many miles. I applaud anyone who does it manually. :) I could never have the patience to do so.
