Are you going to let us post new threads in PS3 section?

What with the Sony press conference tomorrow, and the plethora of news that's going to be coming our way, I think it would be best if the Powers That Be didn't stick to the "all PS3 news goes into the 18,000-page PS3 thread" rule.

Whaddaya say? Let us splurge the forum for just a few days? :) Duplicate threads will naturally be merged and/or deleted, but I think big tidbits should be allowed their own threads (price, controller, launch lineup, whatever they announce).

I think that is a good idea, as some of the announcements will be important enough to discuss in their own thread (unless there is a similar subject on it already, like more information on a game that already has a thread etc).

What are you talking about? Everyone should be able to post new threads in the PS3 forum. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your question?

That's what I thought. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the question too...

Edit: Maybe he thought we HAD to post all news in the PS3 thread.

I think what Jedi is getting at is that we can post threads about major features about the PS3, and not having them get locked and the mods telling them to post in the huge PS3 thread.

New threads with new information shouldn't be a problem I don't think.

Exactly. That happened at TGS, I believe.. they made some announcements, and people started some threads, and they were all locked and/or deleted, then merged into the already-huge "PS3" thread.

I could see that happening if the thread was part of a generic Playstation forum, but there's a whole forum there for the system.

When new info comes in about PS3 related items, it's easier to post it in the PS3 thread. I then, update the first post to hold all new, relevant info.

It's an attempt to keep things clean and tidy in the PS3 section. It seems to work well, and the mods seem to agree.

However, is some new info is big and can support a huge discussion on it's own, by all means post it in a new thread. Nobody said you couldn't. I'm still waiting for somebody to start a new controller thread. I feel that it deserves its own thread.

I admit I haven't spent hardly any time in the forum, but I would certainly have to disagree with you and the moderators who made that decision. My idea of "clean and tidy" is not cramming everything into one thread - that's not how the forum/thread system is designed to work. Perhaps you guys have implemented in some other way that I'm not understanding - I will check it out right now.

And the PS3 section doesn't really work that way. Take this thread for an example... https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=80881

That thread wasn't needed. It was old info that nobody needed or wanted to talk about. If they did, they would have posted in the second thread made about it. But, they didn't. Most posts in that thread are about how the info was already posted.

It's something that could have been posted in the PS3 thread, and it was a while ago. Plus, the first post in the the PS3 thread holds all new and pertinent info about the PS3. It's much more convenient to find when in one location compared to spread all over the place. All people need to do is check that first post, and see if it's been posted before.

Of course, if there's something new that has a lot of details, by all means, people should start a new thread about it and discuss to their hearts content. There's no reason why people can't discuss it in its own thread. People that go to the PS3 section of GTP know this. They also know that if there's any topic already known that at any time they can start a new thread topic and discuss it.

But, most new threads start with info already known like, "OMG, de ps3 will b out in nov 11. dood, 2 cool!" That's more of a case of spamming than providing new info that's to be discussed.

So, are all PS3 discussions supposed to be posted in the PS3 thread? No, of course not. And not with other topics either. But, if somebody wants to start a new thread, it should be info and details that's worthy to be in its own thread. Is it not? In short, the PS3 area is a lot like the GT4 section, but different.

Like you said, spend some more time there, and soon you'll see what it's like there. Then, I think you'll better understand what I and several others mean. And if don't agree, by all means, start some new threads yourself if you think that helps the ball rolling. I'm sure the rest of us there will appreciate your presence.
