I've posted this in the Digital Art Help as well, but nothing came out of it and since more people come around this forum, I'll ask it here.

So, one wants to create his or hers own cd cover. Planned covers to make are four parts: the front cover, the inside cover, the cover on the actual cd and a cover to place on the back. However, this person does not know how big the picture must be since the image appears in pixels and pixels and centimetres/inches are not the same.

So; How big in pixels must all of these parts be to match the actual size of the cd and the case?

I heard you must calculate it with something called "dpi" I searched a little info on the dpi size of my printer and it says "600X600", or something. And that's where I'm stuck. I've tried to resize images to 12X12 cm, that's how big a cd case is but the image came up as big as a whole A4 sized image out of the printer, I tried opening it up in Word so the sizes would be kept but it came out far too small :grumpy:

Any help would be greatly appreciated but if this question does not belong here, please, do not hesitate to remove this topic :)

This might be worth a look.

Edit: Or try this one.

I'd be more inclined to trust the CNet software, personally.

And this is how you do it without any cover editing programs. ;)

Set the resolution to 200 or 300 dpi in the image editing program (usually done in the same menu where you resize the picture). Then make the image either 960 pixels (200 dpi) or 1440 pixels (300 dpi) wide and high. Print with no zoom in the print settings.

There you have a perfectly sized front cover! 👍

And it's even very easy to do. Measure the cover in millimetres, divide the result by 25 and multiply by the dpi value. Then make the picture.

So, this software allows me to put in the images I want to have as cd covers and it will automatically convert it into the right sizes or how does this work?

@ Greycap: So, if a cover is for example 120 mm by 120 mm, I should divide that by 25, times 200 or 300, depending on the dpi? Is it normal the image editing program displays the image so big?

Thank for all the help so far guys 👍

You got the idea down perfectly. And that's completely normal as the screen resolution is only 72 dpi or so, thus the image is displayed three to four times the actual size.
