This was mentioned in the Top Gear's Top Hot Hatches thread. I didn't want to take that thread off topic, so I thought I'd create this one.

In terms of Impreza's getting stolen a lot, well its rather interesting to see that they don't even make the top ten of most stolen cars in the UK..

Home Office
1. Vauxhall Belmont
2. Vauxhall Astra Mk2
3. Ford Escort Mk3
4. Austin/Morris Metro
5. Vauxhall Nova
6. Ford Orion
7. Rover Metro
8. Austin/Morris Maestro
9. Austin/Morris Montego
10. Ford Fiesta Mks1, 2 and 3

According to the Car Theft Index released by the Home Office this week, the Vauxhall Belmont is the car most likely to be stolen in the UK.

Of the 5729 Belmonts on the road, 436 were stolen in 2005.

For those that don't know, this is a Vauxhall Belmont.

It begs the question, "Why?"

The rest of the list isn't any better. I know those cars will have rubbish locks and should be easy to nick, but surely thieves have a certain street cred to uphold? Do people not nick good cars anymore?

That is not a good looking vehicle - even for 1987 standards.

Maybe instead of quality cars they are going for massive quantities. I would imagine that newer cars also have a bit more for security on them, as well. Thirteen plus percent seems a bit high regardless.

So basically, if you live in the UK, and your a new driver. Don't buy a car on that list.

Your forgetting what a lot of stolen cars are used for, committing crimes and black market parts. Going for high end cars would be a bad idea, sure you would look badass pulling up to a grocery store to rob it in a Ferrari F50, but how discrete would that be? Same goes for the parts trade, no one wants to spend alot of money on a car that isn't worth anything, so when their "friend" says he can get them "cheap parts" to fix it, wouldn't that be better then paying over the counter/mechanics prices?

Edit: I should add that "committing crimes" includes youth joyriding, etc.

How can that thing be the most stolen vehicle...

I've never even heard of it.

Answer is chavs are retarded and those are very easy to steal, even for people who suffer from fetal alcohol poisoning. Which is most chavs.

Essentially, the Top Ten cars Most Likely To Be Found On A Council Housing Estate.

I wonder how many of those stolen Belmonts got nicked more than once?

Its because any idiot can steal one of those.

The impreza is most liely the most stolen performance car in the UK. Every other day on scoobynet theres a member whose asking people to keep a look out for their vehicle because it got stolen.

Why do you browse scoobynet if you love audis so much?

At least the UK list has wide array of cars, rather than the US list where all 10 are Acura Integras.

So there's over 175 Imprezas stolen every year, in fact there would have to be far more than that if it's only that many being stolen form scoobynet members. Seriously, stop pulling "facts" out of your arse. Also, definie sportscar, because I'm sure there's plenty of sportscars stolen more often than Subaru Imprezas. on a cars per steal ratio.

lol figures out my ass. If im not mistaken the Impreza was at one point, the MOST stolen car in the UK.

Im sure a member here should be able to remember that, such as famine.

Your making the statement, you provide the figures.

Yes - it was immediately prior to Subaru introducing deadlocks on all the doors and factory-standard immobiliser. This was 1998.

There was then a spate of house-burglaries with the sole intent of getting the keys for Imprezas. Insurers then introduced a requirement for all turbo-model Imprezas to have a Tracker-type system for all new policies. This was 2001 (and I believe this is no longer the case either).

How many stolen Imprezas per year would that be Poverty?

And as Famine pointed out, the stupidly high Impreza theft rates was then, and not now.

How about America?

In 2005 (according to State Farm insurance):

1. 1991 Honda Accord
2. 1995 Honda Civic
3. 1989 Toyota Camry
4. 1994 Dodge Caravan
5. 1994 Nissan Sentra
6. 1997 Ford F150 Series
7. 1990 Acura Integra
8. 1986 Toyota Pickup
9. 1993 Saturn SL
10. 2004 Dodge Ram Pickup

The top four according to the Feds:

* Cadillac Escalade EXT 4dr 4WD
* Cadillac Escalade 4dr
* GMC Savana 1500 cargo
* Dodge Ram 1500 quad

And the top four least-stolen models?

* Ford Taurus
* Pontiac Vibe 4WD
* Buick LeSabre
* Buick Park Avenue 4dr

Hmmm...

I know the old 3rd Gen Camaros and late-model B-Body Caprices were most-stolen for a while as well, but they've been gone long enough where it isn't a problem.

I said most likely. That statement is well within the boundries of not getting harassed by you. Its up to you now to prove that the Impreza is no longer the most stolen sports car in the UK ;)

Incorrect.

Your statement, your proof - not others' disproof.

Asking others to disprove your claims is nonsensical. For example, I'd like you to disprove this statement of mine: I am actually Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and I have climbed Everest, twice.

I made no claim for or against so quite simply I don't have anything to prove, I have however already linked to the home office at risk details, which do show that as far as a theft risk goes the Audi S range has been a greater theft risk (in terms of number of years) than the Impreza.

As far as harassment goes, well if you think that is the case then simply contact an admin, however I see nothing wrong with asking for proof of claims made by members. I can't help it if you are one of the most prolific poster of unsourced and unsubstantiated information.

KA-J isn't listed here anywhere.

It's quite a common thing - though usually it's a scratty Cavalier or the like - something easy to steal.

oops :scared:

1992 Fiesta, with a 1.8

Mines more or less safe for now, not only because it's stuck on the driveway behind a van but the battery is disconnected because there's been a few cars broken into here recently

Seriously though who'd steal a Metro or a Maestro :dunce:
