I know you can count the die-hard Mini fans here on the fingers of one hand, so I’ve stuck with the weird and wonderful, for your entertainment. I won’t be entirely surprised if this receives no replies, but nevertheless… 2,200 Minis, old and new, started at Crystal Palace in London, and proceeded to Maderia Drive, Brighton – bringing a standstill to the town in the process.

First off, there’s possibly one of two of you who don’t know exactly how small a Mini is. So for comparison, a Vito and a Volvo:

Crystal Palace line-up – miles of Minis. When I left (one of the first 20 or so out), there were 8 lines, each about a mile long:

Saloons

This guy was driving down the motorway when his left rear wheel fell off:

Ouch.

Comedy:

Hydrauliceriffic, two-tone TVR tastic, and remotely close to the real thing, etc. - some unusual Minis, some photos I just liked:

Vans including the ironic AA van (good old reliable Minis, haha), a Mini Popemobile, a Blues Brothers Clubman and, for Dunc, the Czech beer van:

Convertibles

I really wanted one of these for a long time, but I know I’d look like a complete prat in one…

Mini Marcos – there were 4 down there. A common sight – many overheated Minis in stop-start traffic on a warm day:

Mini Limos

…and the opposite – Mini Shortys. If I could have any car from the L2B, I’d pick the blue 1275 GT:

Minis with a little more – VTEC just fits in Yo!

The blue one with the massive negative camber has a Vauxhall 2-litre in the back. There was a company offering a complete Civic Type R engine assembly for the far side of £6K ($12,000+ US). I would if I could…

Minis off the road

Modded Wolseley Hornet

BMW Minis

Minissima. A 1973 (From the 70s! How could you tell?) concept Mini replacement, with a single rear door. Lovely.

Filmstars – the P reg is from the 1998 Avengers film, the W reg from Tomb Raider:

Fiat Ferrari – the Mafia drove these in the original Italian Job:

Scenes from Brighton, including the bitter end – the far end of Maderia Drive:

Hope you liked it!

Edit: nuts, can't get the photos to do what I want them too, so the layout is all higgeldy piggeldy. Please let me know about any broken links I've missed. Ta!

That is the best looking Mini there. I love these things. I'd prefer BRG though instead of the blue personally.

And this:

Is just insanely cool--and I don't know why.

Those shorties look awesome.

I didn't realise there was so many modifications that could be done, and especially surprised at how often they've been done.

What are those behemoths doing there? :grumpy:

Are you sure thats not Paris?

You mean like this?

I had to walk a mile and a half to get to that one.

I can't believe I missed off the best car of the show:

:D

When i saw mini run i knew it had to be you roo.

All of those mini's look wicked awesome, though i am not to fond of the 'mini' minis.

It makes me want to get one of my own :D, lol

Awesome, those mini minis must be an absolute joy to toss around though.

Yes, only I'd have the solid white stripes. But still, BRG is just perfect. Definately one of my favorite colors--eh, and by BRG I mean all "flavors" of it. 👍

Great pics Roo 👍

Not many cars cooler than a mini Mini with flared arches and fat minilites.

BTW, that Elf is actually a Wolseley Hornet.

cool stuff :D shame about the bmw minis being there lol
those shortened ones are neat :D great when reversing

I'm not sure which is crazier; the shorty or the chopped?

Back to Roos photos, and this blue pick-up is a blast from the past. I remember seeing it at the Chelsea cruise - before the hot hatch kids killed it off in the nineties, and it doesn't look like it has changed at all in the past 10 to 15 years!

I rode in a Mini for the first time today. Although it was a 2005 BMW Mini S, I was in love. My cousin was driving, and he drove fast, and the car was amazing. Especially in that nice light blue color.

Great pics Roo! I'm sure you had a great time.

Those Mini Limos look cool - are they still running Mini engines to haul around all that extra weight?

Mine's progressing slowly and hopefully it'll look half as good as some of these one day.

I wonder when the NZ Mini Nationals are?...

I've only ever been in one moving Mini in my life - Roo's :dopey:

Fantastic pics, looks like you were busy! I hope you managed to find your car at the end of it all... "I'm sure I parked it somewhere around here, between two other Minis... "

A breif update from the 2008 L2B. I didn't manage to get a ticket for the parking in Brighton this year - plus my Mini's off the road - so I went down on the train. A few highlights:

MINI Shorty - possibly the only one in existance:

Bling bling - check the tiara on the oil filler cap; Wosley Hornet checker cab; the difference in length between new and old; 3.5 Rover V8 Mini; MINI with Porsche calipers:

That shorty MINI is awesome as is the V8 one. There are some seriously cool cars there, wish I could be over there right now.

Could you tell me a little more about this Gixer powered one, Roo? I love it! Is this a one-off or are they built to order? If so, how much are they? This would be the perfect car for here. Any more pics?

EDIT: Oh, after only just seeing that last pic of the suspension assembley I didn't actually realise it was chain driven. I'm thinking there aren't many of these around then!

It's a bike-engined conversion, built by the owner, so it is a one off, but bike engines are a fairly common swap. Rear (mid?) engined, hence the chain. It was on the cover of MiniWorld magazine last year; if I find it I'll be able to tell you more.

man some of these are so sick... my wife is also drooling as she is a huge Mini fan, We'd love to own one but here in Mexico they are extremely rare and thus expensive -_- and even so, I've found an abandoned one just two blocks from my work, but haven't found the owner, its sitting on four flats in a building's parking lot alongside a R8 Renault.

The V8 mini is really cool, a Buick mill in one of those, who would have tought...
