Anybody know when exactly is this going to be out ? a demo is out on the Xbox but nothing on the PS3 , this is a game that I must have on my PS3 as I feel so much comfortable playing this using the PS3 controller , after I tried playing the 2007 version on the Xbox I just can't do it

I'm really waiting to get my hands on this game, heard many good things about it. Hope it looks next-gen...

I heard today on the radio it was to be released on the 24th (October, I hope). At least here in Portugal. Don't know if they were referring to the PS3 version though...

I've heard a lot of great buzz on this game as well. I'm glad Konami is still appearing to put a lot of effort into their Winning Eleven series of soccer games. 👍

Hopefully someday we will see a high quality American football game for a next-gen console. :irked:

Yes, euro version is out Oct 24th for Ps3, PC, and Xbox 360. Demo is already available on xbox live.

There is no confirmed date for a North American release to my knowledge.

Sorry, completely off topic, but I just noticed your new avatar. Where did you find that box shot? Or did you create it yourself? Regardless it looks damn clean 👍

Use PMs, please.

Unfortunately, you cannot believe all the hype and reviews that this game gets. Konami aren't putting much effort into it at all. The game engine is almost exactly the same as PES1 on the PS2. It really hasn't changed at all. The style of the graphics is confusing a lot of people, and making them think theyre not next-gen, well they are, but they certainly aren't realistic in any way.

I've long been a die-hard Pro Evo fan, and scorned FIFA for its money-led ways, whereby they buy all the licenses, and the public laps it up, despite the games terrible flaws. Well now, FIFA have it right, they've changed everything and the realism is there, 08 is a fantastic game, and I think that this year, they've got Konami beat.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll definitely keep that in mind. If anything I'll be sure to rent it first before deciding on whether or not to get the game. 👍

I would disagree with that I've played 08 on the PS3 and have tried PES08 on the Xbox and I liked the PES game more and felt it to be more realistic.

IGN's review of PES 08

Just a heads up for those interested, Konami has posted a 2-min trailer in 1080p on the Japanese PS Store for this game, although the trailer lists the game's official title as World Soccer: Winning Eleven 2008

Yeah, it's called like that in Japan (at least). Over here I've always knonw(sp?) it as Pro Evolution Soccer.

I sure hope the IGN review isn't misleading people on the gameplay, as that's what always made this game better than FIFA and the main reason why I'll buy it for sure. Of course graphics play a very important role, but they're surely not worse than PES6's for PS2, and those were already sweet.

I downloaded the FIFA08 demo from the PS store, and although graphically looks very good and the gameplay has been improved visibly, it just doesn't appeal to me as much as PES.

it seems there is drop issue with PS3 version and there should be an update on the way but no time frame yet ... I got the game on Saturday BTW played it a bit but got bust with exams and stuff should have a go at tomorrow , but first impression is thats really good

Konami can put in only so much effort because Seabass and his team are only 8 guys deep. They did a hell of a good job for 8 guys over 4 platforms.

don't do background download and play this game , it will hang when your trying to get into a match , happned to me was scared until I figured it out

JIC you guys hadn't noticed yet but the demo is now available on the PSN Euro/UK store.

My first day playing the demo.
PES 2008 PS3 Demo - Cristiano Ronaldo replays.

This demo version released Nov 1st, 2008.

I really like the life like movements of the players. You can tell the players details have improved. Cristiano Ronaldo looks realistic in the game. I like the new added skill moves. Very useful when played correctly in the game. The first touch and trapping the ball look authentic. The ball rolls and travels realistically with the dribble. I like the detail in how the players lean and shift to prepare for cuts and moves off the dribble.

If you are a soccer fan, you'll enjoy this game.

Can't wait to play the full version.

The keepers are terrible in this game, though. They botch balls like crazy, I hear.

DON'T BUY THIS FRIGGIN' GAME!

I'm actually shock that the game made it past the games testers! Its shocking, and it could be a killer blow for the series. FIFA might not be the best, buth at least its consistent. PES2008 is like a throwback to anther time!

Game launch walkthrough:.

I proceed to buy the game at Woolworths after looking around for the cheapest deal - I got the game for £39.99 (the same as at Play.com), rushed home as my excited little legs could take me (grabbing a four pack of cans on the way). I get home, rip the game out of the cover, and frantically shove it into the ole 'George Forman'.

Starting video looks cool, music is forgettable though. Hmmm... Why are there bikini clad girls in the opening video? No matter, where's the online mode? what's this? PS3 owners may experience difficulties? FFS, I just paid £40 for this crap! That's odd, why do I have to register? Damn I need a USB keyboard. Christ that was a waste of time. Why can't I get into a game room? This is frustrating, still can't get into a game. Finally, I got one! I'm going to pwn you noob! Yeah, im into the box, just about to score...! WTF?? they scored? how? OMG this game is like a slideshow... :(

Pass this game by PLEASE, it is the pits. I have been a 'devout PES fan since the 4th game, and I currently have the 6th on my PC (which is head and shoulders above this crap). I'm struggling to understand how a game that has been this anticipated could of been allowed out of the doors in the condition it is at present. It basically hasn't even gone through testing, and it shows. Dreadful frame rates, terrible keepers who apparently fumble the ball on goal kicks (you haven't seen that no? - lol...not :irked:)

Besides that the game just doesn't feel 'next-gen', infact it feels like a PS2 game being emulated on the PS3 - thats how bad it is. I seem to remember Seabass bragging about how the PS3 version would be the definitive version, and how it would be far superior than the XBOX360 version. Seabass needs hanging for that kind of fantasizing...

I know one thing for sure, that unless the next PES gets universal 9.x review scores, I will not be buying it. THIS GAME IS A JOKE (reed the red text above). Now where is my PES6?

TBH I find that your over exaggerating, The graphics are much better than PS2 PES games, and from what I heard it seems even the Xbox version has some problems with playing on Live, I didn't find the regestration to be difficult at all. The frame rate issue I only find happens on replays and those scenes like match start thing , and when you score a goal. During game play its fine

Just a heads-up, there is a new 5-min video for this game now available on the Japanese PS store which includes a lot of actual gameplay footage. I can't say I'm terribly impressed, but I'll wait to read more thorough reviews and comparisons between it and FIFA 08.

Not a chance mate! I expected much better than this. I didn't pay £40 rips for a beta. :grumpy: FIFA '08 looks the bollocks - it doesn't play so well, that's another story, but at least its smooth. I may be exaggerating, but so was Seabass when he bigged this game up! If it wasn't going to be so good, then he should of kept quiet instead he chose to escalating hype with ridiculous nonscence. Is it any wonder that people are venting their spleen?

Your right the graphics are better than the PS2 version too, but only just... Put a couple of jaggies on Ronaldo's shoulder, and I'd have to double-check that I was using my PS3! Anyway, from what I've been hearing, the registration thing buggers up the game too. I don't know if I read it here, or on a review site, but I remember something about the game being tied to the user that registers it. So say you go to sell it (at a later date), the next guy can't play it online, because he needs your password and stuff. That's a joke!

Its stuff like this that curries my goat! I got stung with R6V (gameplay is good, graphics are poor) and now this is wonky, thats 100 clams for two supposedly awesome games. If they were giving it away for free, then I'd be a believer, but when my wallets on the rack, I want to be 100% sure that I'm getting added value!

Hmmm... IDK, Its a sad day for consoles, when you need a patch before you can play a game properly! :odd:

I've downloaded the demo a few days ago, been playing it on a regular basis, and so far I'm very disappointed.

Don't know how much better the full game is, but judging by the demo, this is what I don't like:

Graphics are NOTHING like a next-gen game, more like a (ever so slightly) improvement on PS2 graphics, almost looks like had this done for PS2 already...

Framerate is laughable - With graphics that poor (compared to what a PS3 can do), there's absolutely no excuse for a flaw on this aspect.

Menus look old...

------

Gameplay is still pretty good, better than Fifa anyway, but the things I described above really draw me away from buying the game. I'll keep playing the PS2 PES's I own and be happy like that.

Seriously, graphics and gameplay of this game give PS3 a bad reputation. Even some the players' faces were better on the previous version of the game for PS2. Pretty sad, really. 👎

edit: graphics and framerate, not gameplay.

This will come as little shock to those of you posting above, but anyway here's Konami's admission to various problems via GameSpot:
PES 2008 having PS3 issues

A FAQ on the official Konami Web site has addressed some of the problems gamers are having with Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, the latest game in the popular football series.

The issues seem to mainly affect the PlayStation 3 version of the game, and include problems with online play, gameplay freezes, and "stuttering."

The Konami FAQ advises users that in the case of PS3 gameplay "stuttering" that the problem is caused by users not playing the game in high definition. The solution is that users who can should switch to an HDTV.

Konami also admits, "We have uncovered issues which affect [the] online gameplay quality of PES 2008. We are working at full strength to find a solution as quickly as possible. We sincerely apologise for this inconvenience." Other issues included the PS3 freezing when playing in Master League mode, and freezing when a match is started. Konami says these problems can be bypassed by deactivating the autosave function, and not installing the game on the hard disc.

A spokesperson for Konami confirmed that the company was working "all out" on getting a patch released to fix these gameplay issues, but said that it did not yet have a date for when this would be likely.

Granted, but it doesn't excuse the extremely poor graphics (for a PS3), nor is it a plausible justification for the annoying framerate drops, considering the lack of graphics detail. It should do 120fps without a single drop. Exaggerating a bit, but it's how I feel...

I don't know why people put so much emphases(sp?) on graphics , there are 22 players on the feild and your viewing them from a distance, in a sports game the most important thing for me is game play , I've played PES2008 for hours non stop and I've been loving it

PES on Playstation 3 is just terrible. Of the demos, at least World Soccer: Winning Eleven is better. I hope they fix everything by the time it gets to the US. I read that someone called Konami and pressured the guy into telling him that they plan to release a couple patches or something.

So say you go to sell it (at a later date), the next guy can't play it online, because he needs your password and stuff. That's a joke!

Doesn't that kind of stuff get stored on HDs rather than the disk itself?
