Sooner or later, it becomes eMpty TeleVision.

So forget the poll, and explain, if necessary.

Going to college for a few months did it for me. I watched it one morning when I came back for Thanksigving, and it just looked, well...plastic.

I was 18, and knew it all already, anyhow.

MTV is mostly childish, but that doesn't mean it's not entertaining. I still watch cartoons as a matter of fact. I'm 24 years old, by the way.

I liked the old Liquid Television, still have it on tape. But once they made Aeon Flux talk, I felt it was unecessary, and there was nothing more to watch.

It took a lot of pot to make Bevis and Butthead interesting to me. And there was no music I was interested in that ever appeared on anything other than 120 Minutes.

I see all the videos look the same, nowadays. Ridiculous, picture-perfect computer backgrounds, fake rock bands, choreographed dancing you'll never see on any dance floor, videos that look like fashion shows, and teasing eye candy is all I ever see anymore. In fact, you don't even see that much music anymore.

And it's not renegade, extreme, or what ever catch phrase of the moment, MTV is one of the biggest censors out there. I try to watch it sometimes, but I can't stomach it anymore.

i've never watched MTV, because we don't have access to it, unless we pay a special package... and i won't pay for that crap.

local Canadian music channels (MuchMusic) plays a few MTV Awards show yearly... i watched 15 minutes of one, the 1999 edition i believe... i couldn't believe they were showing that crap on TV. :yuck:

So you judged the entire network on 15 minutes of viewing the Video Music Awards? I agree that 95 percent of what is shown is pure rehashed overproduced rubbish and a blind, deaf, mute could run a better station, but they occasionally show a good video and they do have [had] Jackass.

Jackass is/was complete ****. it's totally pointless, and a waste of TV time that could have been used for something intelligent or educational, considering most watchers are teen/kids.

Good videos, perhaps, but MuchMusic/M+ (French counterpart) does the same, and it doesn't cost me anything. and they don't sensor them (yeah, s*it, **** and everything)

I watch MTV2 they actually play videos. My god what a concept...videos on a music station.

Never really watched MTV...I watch it more now just to see if there's a video of a band I listen to or Jackass...gets annoying with all those zit creme commercials...

Blah. It's too much trendy crap. In one day out the next. Thought of as "tight" one week, and becomes "old" the next. Sucks.

While I like change, this type of change is just stupid. I listen to music older than I am, and I like it a lot. Never gets old.

Just me I guess...

Well, don't know about outgrowing MTV as much as out growning the general music industrial trend for Hip Hop. Once they stop playing "Head Bangers Ball", I quit watching MTV.. I will occasionally watch "Real" as I flip past it, but that's about it...

I quit watching MTV about 2 weeks after the first season of The Real World came on. If they could have picked a less-true name for that show, I can't imagine what it would be.

Plus it spawned the bargeload of contrived "reality" shows that get faker with each passing season. Unforgivable.

I will stop on MTV2 for a few minutes if I happen to see an interesting vid on my way over to Speedvision.

never watched it. only twice and that was the music awards cause of nothing else on. :|

I had MTV about 5 years ago, I cant remember anything about it. Although MTV2 occasionally does have a good video on it, Kerrang is good to(English Metal channel)

I agree with just about everything posted here.....

apart for the knob with the rolly eyes... not you MFKAD, the juicer pillock. Say something of value or nothing.....

MTV has it's value, does the occasional good rock weekend thing. I like the "cribs" thing. Certainly Jacoby Shaddix is now referred to as "that nice boy" in my house now we've seen him on TV raving about how great his life is and how very grateful he is and how he loves his mates and his music.

Jackass is great, in my opinion. I love to see all the really inventive ways that team of looneys come up with hurting themselves. Every time i think Americans are getting too big for their boots i take a look at Jackass...... I reckon you're as nutty as the rest of us. Got to love those guys.

MTV is a necessary evil, if it hadn't happened we wouldn't have decent music vids (Tool etc) and the really decent music channels like MTV2 and Kerrang TV.

In brief... good for a quick scan, cherry pick the best bits ignore the rest.

I grew out of the channel as soon as I grew out of the music it plays. My wife has it on quite a lot - MTV Hits actually, which is even more asinine and anodyne than the main channel. MTV Dance is sometimes quite good, but that's not really a glowing endorsement, is it?

I read recently that the splitting of MTV into different "specialist" channels is diluting the audience so much that the video industry is beginning to fall apart.

The problem with it is that it's so bland, they don't take any risks any more, and in going for the pre-teen market, they're ignoring the ones with the disposable incomes. Oh well.

I do like Jackass though, that show makes me laugh.

Out grew it when it out grew the original concept of playing videos.
I turned to MTV, and four of rive times in a row was some stupid talk show crap, or "reality" show garbage. I was into the "M"

At this point they can change the name to SSATOMVTV.
Thats "Stupid S*** And The Occasional Music Vid TV"

Mtv is mindless crap. I have MMUSA and it is far better.

Mtv is, please bear with my politicizing, a bastian of liberal crap only to eager to babble on about how guns are bad and the military sucks, dudes!

And here is a breif explanation of their genius.

Several years ago, early morning, some cable in the classroom show was on. During this "special" Mtv edition, they, Mtv, were going on about the bad weapons our taxes are spent on and that roads and whatever else do not get a fair amount that revenue. Sound like a fair complaint. Wel, I do not remember the exact statistics, only that one got between 20-30 % and the other got between 7 and 18 %, I believe those are close estimates, but I am certain that the smaller amount went toward the military. Now, I realize that if one does not like the military or just feels it has enough money that 1 percent may be too high, and that the other issue may need a higher percent allocated to it, but how swift is it to display data that contradicts you?

Other than seeing a few cicks, there aint much to see, i rarely look at it.

oh, and jackass is crap....ass

I was never into it, for the record, but I like anime and old style songs. If you youngin' want real music, listen to the Platters.
