Love it, loathe it, ignore it - the Escudo is one of the most controversial cars in the game. Idiots love to wheelie it, cheats love to wheelie it, wallride it then submit the times to online databases... But it's a tricky car to drive on track.
Today I drove it for the first time ever. At the Rome Endurance. No, seriously... I thought I'd pass on my experience, settings and notes to help anyone else who finds the car just too awful to drive on a track.
Settings:
Settings aren't really transferrable, but frankly it's impossible to make the Escudo handle any worse. So you may as well give it a go...
Springs: 14.5/8.5
Ride Height: 75/85
Shocks Bound: 10/10
Shocks Rebound: 10/10
Camber: 3.0/2.0
Toe: 0.5/-2.0
Stabilisers: 4/4
This is all designed to get the rear-end loose - to counter the inherent understeer in a 1881hp 4WD "thing". I may have the Toe wrong - I improvised. If this doesn't work so well for you, try -1.0/-2.0 front/rear.
Brakes: 22/19
Stock stuff. You might like to put the rear higher than the front to induce MORE oversteer, but from the kind of speeds this car is decelerating, I'd suggest sticking like this.
LSD: all settings 5
Gear Ratios: For Rome... Tranny trick, Final 3.200@Auto 24.
If you don't know what the Tranny trick is... Put Final fully right. Then move Auto fully right then fully left (the Escudo has a short Auto anyway, which can mess up the trick). Then move Final to the desired value - in this case 3.200. Only move the Final from then on, depending on the track you want.
Downforce: 0.85/1.08
ASM: 0
TCS: 1
VCD: 10%
Again, to remove understeer.
Driving Tips:
1. The car has horrific turbo lag. Stay above 5500rpm.
2. The car has horrific turbo boost. Watch out at about 6000rpm for a sudden surge.
3. Go low. Use the lowest gear you possibly can for each corner - go a gear lower than the helper suggests.
4. Early turn-in. Normally I'd advise a late turn in for understeer-y cars, but the Escudo is almost impossible to balance on the accelerator properly. It's better to turn in early rather than run out of road.
5. BRAKE! You want to be braking twice as far from a corner as you usually would - you're coming in at F1 speeds in a car twice the weight with half the braking power... Stay in-gear during braking for maximum engine deceleration.
