Just stumbled across a nifty little service known as Audioscrobbler. It's basically a Winamp/foobar/iTunes/WMP/more
plugin that sends the current song away to their servers. It collects information about the songs and serves up recommended songs on what it receives. You can also check out other users that have the same taste as you.
  • More about it here.
  • Check out my mad tyte listening preferences here.
  • Join the GTP team/group/collection here.

So I downloaded and installed the plugin, now when I listen to songs they just magically appear on my profile?

Cuel.

EDIT: Linkage is in the signature.

bloody hell. I set it up on my desktop and now my laptop won't work with it no matter what I do :banghead:

oh, i'm in the gtp team 👍

I wonder what causes files to get cued. Possibly his database server can't assimilate data as fast as it's being submitted.

Time for a hardware upgrade!

There is some really cool information to be had from this!

Weekly Charts, System Information, Online Now. All good stuff!

They are intending to buy better hardware, that's why their is a 'Donation' button at the bottom. Also, regarding why files don't get updated immediatly - from the FAQ:

I noticed that sometimes the data on the site doesn't update immediately. Is this a bug?
No, this is a feature ;)
We have a layer of caching which prevents the website from accessing the database too frequently. Various bits of data shown on the site are cached for periods of time. Data that is more difficult to calculate is cached longer, this is at most a few hours.

Ah, so it's more a function of prevention rather than inability. Either way, it would seem to denote greater user load on the plug-in / data submission side of things rather than web traffic. But the "Server Information" graph would appear to tell a different story.

Their servers aren't cut out for the amount of submissions they're getting. They intend to buy new servers, or did you miss that post altogether?

My songs that I played last night didn't get updated until today sometime.

Just checked the Audioscrobbler frontpage:

I just updated the site to the latest version. We now have private messaging between users, groups list on user pages, artist and track forums, forum headlines on artist pages (set in the account details page) and an overview page for the weekly charts. I also added a couple more FAQ entries.

There is now a separate Donations page, as we need to buy more RAM and it ain't cheap - please take a look ;)

Due to the database maintenance earlier the queue is still massive. The good news is that Sauron (our faster database server) is ready for action. A big roll of bubble-wrap arrives tomorrow and we'll be shipping it soon!
