£5million prize for 100mpg car

The challenge has been laid down to engineering teams - design a car that returns 100mpg and can be mass-produced... becoming millionaires in the process.

The X Prize Foundation has put a $10million (£5m) fund up for grabs for whoever creates the machine. For details, log on to the www.xprize.org website.

...Still, with the best diesel vehicles achieving no more than 60-65 MPG (US), we've still got a bit of work to do...

They should've been more specific... 100 mpg, carries five passengers, and is capable of 60 mph, buildable at $20,000 retail.
