Looking for some information.
My PS3 won't read any game disc I install. It still plays downloaded games, but that's it. The local repair shop wants 125$ to repair it, but I don't know if it's something I can fix myself. Has anyone here had this same problem? If so, what did you do to fix it?
I bought another used machine, which I was planning on doing anyway, transferred all the data to the new one, but I want to be able to play game discs on both machines.

Any help or advice will be appreciated.

Can't speak to whether the drive is owner repairable or not but, since you already have another PS3, be brave my son. Tear it apart see if you can fix it, if you can't, you can probably pick up another used PS3 in working order for around the same price as the repair shop offered to fix it?

my cousin contacted sony and they sent her a mailing box and for a $100 they said even if they have to replace it they would send her a good ps3

You'll need new lens (Laser) for your Ps3. The one you currently have has worn out. I had that same issue a few months ago. Takes about 30 minutes at most to fix by yourself.

Lenses (Lasers) range from $10 - $30 depending on PS3 model.

This website has the list of lens compatible for each PS3 model.

And if you plan on going through with the replacement then I suggest going to ifixit.com to follow there set-by-step guide to replace laser.

Well, this is apparently BS. Done the whole reboot thing and the PS3 and all my network gear and still can't connect to PSN with the PS3. :irked:

Actually, on 2nd read, that's different from what they had posted as of about an hour ago. I'll disconnect all my stuff, try again, and let you know if I have any luck now.

I had this issue Friday night and did the same as you with no luck. Then about 1/2 hr later I tried one more time and got in, but it took a couple of tries to finally connect to server. Got in no problem yesterday morning as well. So it's not good if this is still happening today!
 
This is the first time the outages has affected me as well. PSN has been working fine all weekend up until this morning. This is no beuno.
 
Still no luck for me -- when I do the network test it says my network connection is okay, but that I cant connect to PSN.

"DDOS group Lizard Squad have claimed responsibility for the latest outage and have been known in the past to repeat attacks on both PSN and Xbox Live over the same weekend."
 
Hey guys, won't be able to make it to the races tonight. Been sick all weekend and can't really find it in myself to try to race for 2 hours.
 
I got the warning from PSN on Thursday to change my password after they noticed suspicious login attempts on my account. They said it started on Tuesday depending on the area. Looks like it's expanding. Mine started just like what everyone is reporting. I would change your passwords after you get in.
