The following is taken from the Autocar website:

'Caterham’s new R500 Evolution has shattered its maker's own world record at Autocar’s 0-100-0 event, held at Bruntingthorpe proving ground, and published in Autocar this week.

The superlight two seater posted the fastest recorded dash to 100 mph and back, beating the likes of Pagani's Zonda, Porsche's Carrera GT and Mercedes-Benz' SLR McLaren, and carving out an even stronger position in the record books.

Last year, a record of 11.25sec was set in Caterham’s Superlight R500 two-seater; this year, the more potent R500 Evolution, with editor Sutcliffe at the wheel, smashed that marker by more than half a second, setting a new target of 10.73sec.

Ferrari’s Enzo supercar also went faster than last year's record, beating even this year's Caterham to 100mph, but losing its advantage under braking, and finishing in 10.98sec.'

I have the article and will try and find the time on Friday to scan and post the times for all the cars that took part (47 in total).

Yes, I read the mag, a couple of cars beat the Suzuki bike.

Nice 👍 it managed to beat an Enzo which is no small task. Does anyone know if an Enzo is faster to 100mph than a McLaren F1?

All figures from Autocar.

McLaren F1 (test date 11.05.94)
0-30 1.8 secs
0-60 3.2 secs
0-100 6.3 secs
0-100-0 (F1LM) 11.50 secs (no breakdown avaliable - 1999)

Ferrari Enzo (test date April 2004)
0-30 1.79 secs
0-60 3.52 secs
0-100 6.69 secs
0-100-0 10.98 secs (0.21 reaction time + 4.08 secs 100-0)

Caterham R500 Evolution (test date April 2004)
0-30 1.45 secs
0-60 3.21 secs
0-100 6.92 secs
0-100-0 10.73 secs (0.21 reaction time + 3.6 secs 100-0)

Suzuki GSX-R 1000 (test date April 2004)
0-30 1.12 secs
0-60 2.64 secs
0-100 5.03 secs
0-100-0 10.89 (0.23 reaction time + 5.63 secs 100-0)

Only place the Enzo beats the F1 is to 30 (and then only just), the rest of the way the F1 has it, but it does lose out on braking. I would imagine due to the advances in braking technology and materials

Damn that things quick! I can't believe it can keep up with sports bikes.

I was suprised that a Mosler was entered, the MT900S photon, it was up there in the top few times, it was faster than the normal R500 that won last years test but a few cars and the bike beat it this year. Shows how cars are getting faster at acceleration and beter braking.

Wow, that’s awesome. It’s very fast beating a motorbike which isn’t an easy task at all. Congratulate to the Caterham for setting such a record. I can’t see any car or motorbike beating that record any time soon.

Oh I can, there are plenty of bikes that with some updating will own that time.

The Mosler was in because was the record holder before this years test was carried out. An American magazine (can't remember which) ran a 0-100-0 test and the Mosler set a new world record for a production car.

As a result it had to be in, however quite a few new cars have hit the market since then.

You are quite right, but the Caterham does now hold the world record for a production road car on road tyres.

Hmm...the new R1 with 180bhp maybe?

The problem bikes have in a 0-100-0 test is not the getting to 100, in which the GSX-R above beats the Caterham by 1.89 secs.

Its stopping, bikes are naturally less stable under extreme braking than cars (higher centre of gravity and two wheels) and with a smaller contact patch also less effective. This can be seen by the 2.03 secs the Caterham beats the bike from 100 to 0.

I am not saying that a bike will not beat the Caterham time, because this is the first time in an Autocar 0-100-0 test that a road car has beaten a road bike. I am saying that to beat the time comprehensively with a road bike will need more than just bhp.

Oh ya as of right now bikes can get close, just let the companies figure out some better brakes.

I also know what you mean about unstable braking, I can't tell you how many times I've almost falling off my dirt bike under hard braking.

Concept cars are glamorous but don't work...kinda like Paris Hilton

Totaly off topic, but that is as funny as ****

Full results from the Autocar 0-100-0 2004, times for all 45 cars that finished.

Note that the 'Past Masters' table is a list of previous Autocar 0-100-0 winners, not always the record holder.

I should add that if you want spec details for any of the cars in the above list just let me know, cos I'm not scanning the lot.

For the record the Focus is NOT the WRC car, but last years British RallyCross winner and kicks out 700 bhp (@7500rpm) and 602lb ft (@5500rpm), just to avoid any confusion on that one.

A bike could easily be produced to beat that time, but the rider would have to have the arms of an orangutang to hold on!!

thats insane the bike is able to accelerate so fast. The cataerham is a nice car
