Hello,

I have been revisiting Simbin's GTR 2 racing game/sim, and I wanted to try to get an accurate account of the transmissions used by the different chassis fielded in the '03 and '04 FIA GT Championship series. I'm hoping someone with more experience, or in-depth knowledge of the time period could confirm, correct, or fill in missing blanks.

Nomenclature:
Manual - H Pattern style shifter
F1 - Paddle shifter as seen on 360 Modena
Sequentual - Sequential shift pattern via traditional handle

'03 Chrysler Viper GTS-R:
#1 & #17 Larbre Competition - 6 speed Manual transmission. Assuming #17 teammate car was the same at Spa. Only raced in rounds 1-2, & 6. Problem I have with this: #1 is Chassis C42 according to https://www.racingsportscars.com/entry/data/Barcelona-2003-04-06.html. Why would they have built a relatively new chassis with a manual instead of sequential like the similar 2002 build C44? Is the video incorrect? Anecdotal evidence of prior season results suggest it's lack of competitiveness is due to retaining manual transmission. Or was it just the maturity of the Ferrari 550/575? Video evidence in '03 Round 1 @ Barcelona(8:48):

#4 & #5 Force One Festina - Sequential transmission. Evidence for #5 can be found in the same playlist. Video evidence in '03 Round 1 @ Barcelona(5:00):

#11 Roos Optima Racing - Manual? *Evidence? Chassis C14 built in 1999. Competed in all rounds, but struggled.

#18 Zwaan's Racing - Manual? *Evidence? Chassis C16 built in 1999. Competed in all rounds, but struggled.

#24 Paul Belmondo Racing - Sequential? *Evidence? Chassis C48 built in 2003. Only 24hrs of spa.

#25 Paul Belmondo Racing - Manual? *Evidence? Chassis C18=>C9 built in 1999. Competed only in 24hrs of Spa.

#37 Megadrive - Sequential? *Evidence? Chassis C45 built in 2002. Competed only in round 10 @ Monza.

'03 Ferrari 360 Modena:
#52 JMB Racing - F1 AND Sequential - Video evidence suggests it switched from f1 style sequential near end of '03 season. The commentators in linked playlists suggest this car was used as a test mule for the upcoming GTC car in '04. F1 style here at Rd 4 Brno(16:41):

Sequential style here in Rd 7 @ Anderstorp:

Maranello Concessionaires seem to have followed by Rd 8(#88 car)(5:30):

#53 JMB Racing - F1 - Video evidence in Rd6 @ 24rhs spa(16:22):

In the same playlists as above, you can see other 360 teams using paddle shifts throughout the season, such as #57 MenX. Unless someone has other evidence, I assume all other 360 Modenas used F1 in '03, except the aforementioned late season changes.

'03 Porsche GT3-RS:
#50 Freisinger - Manual - Cannot find any onboard for the season of the GT3-RS. Maybe because everyone was so familiar with it. My understanding is, GT3-RS was just a souped up cup car, which Porsche phased out as front runner for GT3-RSR. Video here suggests it's a manual based on angle(13:42): https://youtu.be/KcccnabexxM?si=YEVBvuazEuY8-uKv&t=822. Written evidence on a sale of this chassis suggests manual, but could have been adapted for road use: https://www.elferspot.com/en/car/porsche-996-gt3-rs-2001-4697598/. Article with comments from Marc Lieb suggest manual: https://www.autosport.com/gt/news/f...-killing-porsche-that-conquered-spa/10635755/ (believe 'RSR' mentioned being H pattern is supposed to mean 'RS' as Lieb drove at 'RS' at Spa in '03. RSR was '04. UPDATE: Video evidence found shows the #50 running a sequential by rd 7 @ Anderstorp(7:59):https://youtu.be/eh5ri9Pz9ZE?si=ifuQ7o9CNVOcqYes&t=479. Did all high-level N-GT teams switch to sequentials near end of '03 season? Did all GT3-RS?

#99 RWS Yukos Motorsport - Manual - Video evidence Rd 8 at Oschersleben(6:26):https://youtu.be/eMvVdAe4mkE?si=aPznpV7wJ_4YOIFJ&t=386.

Assuming all remaining GT3-RS were manual due to lack of evidence otherwise. Please correct if you have more details on 2003 FIA GT Championship entry list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_FIA_GT_Championship. This would also include entries going into '04 season (not RSR).

From the video evidence above, you can also see no-lift (auto throttle) was not allowed (other than 360 Modena F1 style). If anyone has further evidence on this - or to the contrary - please share. I have only been able to find the regulations for the GT Championship up to year 2002. It states that auto-throttle or auto-clutch devices are not allowed unless they were homologated for the road car. This would mean only the Ferrari 360 Modena with the F1 style paddle shifters would allow no-lifts, and auto blips. According to written evidence (GTR 1, and official '02 results), this is why the 360 Modena was less competitive early on, because this style of transmission was slow even compared to a manual.
