05' Nissan Altima 2.5s Part Suggestions

Hi everyone, i'm new to the the performance zone but not to gtplanet.

i own a 2005 nissan altima 2.5s manual transmission and i was just wondering to get some suggestions on parts i should start on. I have no specific goal with the car but i am looking for an intake...as well as an exhuast [resonator?] that will change the sound of my exhaust to that of a 350z or a g35 coupe. I heard it was a magnaflow 2.5 resonator but i am not sure.

Anyways, thanks for the suggestions in advance.

thanks.

I would suggest some new tires and rear sway bar.

Also, go with an exhaust tuned for performance, not sound. I would bet Stillen would have some good exhausts.

QR25's sound nothing like a VQ35's 2 totally different engines. dont waste your time trying to get the QR to sound like a VQ it's just not going to happen just get some simple boltons and be happy for serious hp building , i would definetaly stay away from the QR , their is a local here that has dumped his QR equipped spec v for a SR20 transplant (probably one of the finest 4cylinders ever built)

vq35's are the g35, 350z, maxima engines? hmm. Forget about sound then...Goomba, stillen? never heard of the brand. Can you give me a link to their site? i was planning on going with magnaflow but i don't know much about their exhausts so...

P.S. Is there such thing as a bolton intake that won't really void your warranty? can you guys recommend me some products? thanks.

they also used VQ35's in the v6 altimas , as far as modifications that will not void your warranty check out nismo parts for your car , they should be warranty friendly from what i have heard/read.

nismo parts...i just found a factory cold air intake for 319$. give or take installation that would be at least 400...

can't you do more than that with 400 dollars?
IF i did by nismo products, would the dealer have them?

I would bet you could find a tutorial on how to install a cold air intake, but its hard to say if it would still be warranty friendly. They may require a certified Nissan Mechanic to install it. But hey, screw the warranty, void that sucker.

You believe in Nissan's reliability, don't you? I mean, thats one reason you probably got the car, right? I would suggest finding a Nissan Altima forum and digging around a bit. Find out what modifications are safe and what you could expect the best gains from and go from there. That will steer you away from bad modifications that could lead to something going boom, and you can learn where you money can be best spent.

I mean, your installing an exhaust thats probably not even an inch larger than your stock one. Is that going to blow the car up? No. Is it going to making such huge amounts of power that your going to rip those gears into shreds? No. I doubt most standard bolt ons will not be dangerous. If you start messing with the ECU, then things can get ugly. Dangerous timing, AF ratios, high EGT (whatever the hell that means, but from I've read, it seems bad), and those sorts of things are going to mess your engine up.

I'll use myself as an example. In Feburary of 2004 I bought a brand new WRX. I didn't have any money at the time to modify so I kept it stock for the first few months. I got a promotion and then had a good deal to spend on miscellaneous, stupid, crap for the car. However, I went around ClubWRX and saw what was the safest and cheapest way to get what I wanted, went for it, and never looked back.

I bought some basic things, wheels and tires, rear sway bar, turbo back exhaust, and a turbo timer. I've never, ever seen a person post something like, "I blew my engine, only mod: exhaust". Quite frankly, it just won't happen. I do however see, "Another EJ20 bites the dust" every once in a while. But these are the guys who are pushing 350hp at the wheels, and have wild and somewhat dangerous tunes and are throwing 20+ PSI at a engine block that is accustomed to only see 14.5. Of course they realize that this may blow a piston, or bend a rod, or something. They also have enough cash and time to go and buy a USDM STi engine.

This is what is mainly keeping me away from engine tunes, and why I doubt I'll do anything of the sort. I know I'm going to keep a very mild set up and I seriously doubt I will blow my engine. I trust Subaru's reliability, so much in fact I went in today and cancelled my extended warranty so I can pay the car off sooner.

So what I'm trying to say, is be reasonable.

Do some research and find out whats the safest, most cost-effective way to get some good horses out of that 2.5L. Your probably not going to blow your transmission, or engine away with some simple bolt ons. But also, be responsible. If you do plan on doing some wild tune, or drop a SR20DET, don't expect Nissan to pay for it. They won't and you'd be stupid for thinking so.

Have a fun time modifying the car.

totally agree with you. I guess i am not satisfied with the 175hp/180torque. QR25 engine...

I have looked into nismo parts...but just one question.

Exhaust or intake?

I have also looked into K&N cold air inductions and they seem pretty good. I am definitely not worried about blowing my car because of 1-3 mods.

THanks for the tips...but Engine work first or exhaust?

get a air intake/induction kit/system installed then get a exhaust .. you will love the way it sounds after that air intake mod btw friend has a aem kit on his spec and it sounds really mean for a 4banger that would be my first mod if i was you, then id get a header , then exhaust and move onto throttle body , then engine work ... (dont even bother with underdrive pulleys .... they slow down your accessories weaken your ac , make your lights dimm when you have your stero+ac turned on ... ) then move onto drivetrain work ... ie clutch/flywhechel ... then suspension/chassis mods (if you prefer a tighter handling car over a faster straight line car consider this first ) then if you want to be really 1337 get a Flatblack paint job :D j/k

i have looked into the Cold Air Intake from NISMO...any good? 270$ for the part, 8 hp gain/10 torque to the front wheels...i say that's a good gain...but would it make a difference in my engine sound?

heh... You're not going to gain 8hp from a CAI. You'll be lucky to gain 2-4. CAI's and exhaust are nice support upgrades, as you'll need better flow from both ends to support higher hp.
