Eighteen years after my first drive in an NA Miata…
First off, I’m probably, really, most likely, never to listen to YouTubers again. Now, in the same breath, no disrespect to content creators that choose to make a living from YouTube.
My most major gripe with the YouTubers I watched, had to deal with the Sparco Sprints for drivers six feet and above. Sooooooo much negative comments about they're the worse seats, they’re tight, lots of adjusting to make them fit. Add some saying if “you” have a waist bigger than 32” or 34” it’s going to be tight and “you’ll” have problems.
NOPE!
I was so worried about how I would go trying to gain egress with the top up. Worried about could I get my six foot frame past the side bolsters. Man, the father and son I bought the car from are a couple inches taller than me. The father is slightly thinner than me and the son is slim. When I slid into the seat, easy peasy. Like butter. Seriously.
The seats are about a year and a half old and like new. So comfortable.
No problems with hitting my legs while turning the steering wheel lock to lock. People talking about the shifter is bad and they need to extend the shifter height. No problem for me. Everything is placed right where the engineers wanted and it works for me.
Anyway, enough with all that. Short story, same way everyone should have a kei car, everyone should get an MX-5.
The NB is awesome. I was only going to get either a vintage Cooper or an MX-5. Either car had to be green. The NB drew first blood and I’m glad it did. The more I looked the car, I can not unsee that it’s a mini Jaguar D-Type. From the driver’s seat, the curved wings and bonnet buldge are straight up E-Type, but from outside, the comparison to an XK8 is there as well.
It’s only day one with me and the NB1’s birthday is next month. As far as I’m concerned, everyday is its birthday… and mine. What a classic.
