I like it more than I expected too after seeing the first spy photo's, I think the M3 version should look great.

Looks a bit better than the sedan, which looks better than the 5-series, which looks better than the 7-series.

I thought exactley the same thing, it's still not a great looker, but it's a damn sight better than what I was expeciting and I wouldn't call it ugly now. The M3 version should be interesting.

Dagnabbit...Bangle got this one right. the most beautiful of his cars yet.

Can't wait for the big V-8 M3.

Ditto. This is probably the best-looking BMW currently, but that’s not saying much.

Styling wise, I'd still much rather have the E46. But as far as Bangle's designs go, this one is probably his best so far imo.

Bangle's a slow learner, huh? I agree with you guys. What danoff said.

Something you guys should know about Herr Bangle. He doesn't design cars for BMW anymore. What he does is manage design projects and influence the direction of the car designs to be sent to the BMW Board of Directors for approval.

The people actually responsible for giving the green light to the BMWs you see on sale today are the Board of Directors. What Bangle does is lead, direct and manage the different choices the Board is finally presented with.

Chris Bangle had more of a direct hand in designing the E46 everyone loves so much than he did the E90 that everyone complains about.

That being said, I think this car is one fine looking automobile. I was looking into a 2005/6 M3 as my next car, but the 335i seems to have my name on it.

Good work BMW, this one looks like it came out of the oven allright. The shapes seem like they are of a new car, but are still pretty familiar, and that is a tough thing to do. Its better looking than the G35 coupe, I'll give BMW that, but I will hold my nomination for best sub-$40K coupe untill the new Pontiac GTO hits the streets...

Its nice but I still prefer the last gen 3 series coupé. Maybe my opinion will change when I see the M3 though.

I still think the headlights could have been better, but the rest of the car looks great! 👍 👍

It's too late, ///M-Spec. Bangle has become a household name (in a bad way), and no amount of truth and explanations are going to stop it. ;)

I think most of us are aware of what ///M-Spec said. Although I didn't know about him having more influence in E46. That is my favorite 3.

Nothing spectacular, but then again, the pics are grainy.

At least it doesn't have the M6's "bad acid trip whale tail" that looks more like Chrysler Cirrus rather than Porsche 930 turbo.

Then again, I find the 5-series okay. Grafting that style on the 3 and 7-series makes it look like an old tortoise.

They should've lined up the inside tail lights with the bottoms of the outside ones. Oh well.

Thats a 335i right?

Two things, that means that is an intercooler in the front bumper, right?

Also, why isn't it a 335ti?

Come on BMW!

At least it looks better than the sedans BMW is putting out now days - The only new BMW's I'd be caught behind the wheel of are the 6 and the 3 Coupe. The rest are just bloated looking trash. The peak styling of the 3 series was the E30 M3, in second place is the E36 M3, though. If only we could bring back the glory days...

Thats the same taillight style as the 7. :yuck: But finally a BMW that I'd love to have after the E36, but....I still dont love it to death.

Funny, when I was young, I found the E30 boring.

But BMWs always get better with age. The E46 (hope I got that right) was criticized by some when it came out, but after all this time, I think it's one of the sexiest cars of the 90s.

I like this skin a lot better than the current one... design looks a lot more cohesive.

Too bad the car still will cost an arm and a leg. If BMW could build one for the cheap seats, I'm certain they would sell a few more in the US.

...Although I suppose that is what the 1-series, or the proposed American 2-series is for...

I think the 6 Coupe is the most bloated looking of them all (and ugliest).

Chris Bangle headed the design team directly responsible for the E46.

I have an issue of Roundel, the official magazine of the BMW Car Club of America (back when I was a member) from 1998, when the E46 was launched. It was filled with design analysis, driving impressions and BMW owners' feedback on the new car.

The overriding impression of enthusiast community of the E46 in 1998 was that it was soft (dynamically) and bland (aesthetically). Chris Bangle and his design team --if you can believe it-- was accused of playing it safe and was too conservative with the new car.

Boggles the mind, doesn't it?

I know it's a tired phrase, but sometimes people don't know what they've got 'til it's gone.
