Hi all! I've been playing around with the tuning since 1.71 dropped, and am still getting used to a few things related to the changes in dampers and geometry. I figured I could use a thread to discuss and hear what you are all feeling as you tweak your setups.

My questions so far:

  • Does the increased upper range for Damping Ratio (Expansion) % mean that we just have a higher ceiling than before, or has the range change affected the setting's impact? Ex: Is 45 still 45, or is that pre-1.71 damping expansion force now equivalent to 48-50?
  • Natural frequency Hz feels different and I'm not sure why. I think it's calculated off the suspension travel so the geometry changes might have impacted this, and it might vary car to car?
  • In terms of balance, I used to find myself ending up with stiffer rear settings than front, which doesn't feel correct when you consider the real world suspension is the opposite. I am now finding the front end to be very loose (and make the wobbleness worse), and thinking I need to balance the suspension more realistically (stiffer in front, adjusted for weight distribution) in order to have decent handling characteristics...
Anyone else have any thoughts or your own questions?

Setups are exactly the same, nothing has changed really. You can setup GR1 cars on racing softs with minimum springs, or shopping trolleys on comfort tyres with near max springs.

Because min - max spring values have changed on alot of cars, then you'll need to adjust to those new parameters, but the same formula's, 'tricks' and methology from GT5, GT6 still works pre and post 1/71.

All PD have done is move the goalposts, they haven't actually changed anything, but they're masters at making people think they have.

It's a bit like Verbal in the film Usual Suspects, he makes you (the viewer), and the cop in the same room, believe you need something that you don't (Keyser Soze). He does this by using what's infront of him (the stuff on the wall), much the same as PD uses what's infront of you, the game content - "tune this car to XXXpp", the updates, 'new' games etc.

Except, the whole time, all you need is what you started with (what worked in GT5), exactly the same as the film, you got what you ultimately need and have always had it, right from the very start, Verbal aka Keyser Soze in a police station.

There's no way the same formula's and the same methology would be working from a version of GT that's 15(?) years old, both pre and post V1.71 in GT7, if things really were different. It's just a sham, but that's what PD are masters of, making you think it isn't.

Oh yeh, car bodywork is still invisible too 👍 funny how no-one wants to talk about that innit, instead we get all this glazing for PD....don't want to loose that seat on the gravy train now do we.....(), even though, once again, PD has just screwed so many...

Oh well, as always, that's the GT life innit..

Damper rebound just convert with a % (whatever the old number was in terms of % of 20, convert that into % of 30), same with springs but with new parameters, but toe is numerical so just type in same as before.

Haven't really tested the diff but the acc seems alot more effective in terms of wheelslip (no smoke being generated) rotating the car but braking sensitivity is the one that seems different. Even setting this to minimum doesn't get the car turning in on lift off like it always has. They might have moved the values we can't see so 0 could be the old 20 / 30 / 40, so this is why so many unstable cars (on lift off) are now alot more stable...maybe (?).

Guess it's just me being an ass as always innit... (no smirnoff durability tests were done in the making of this post - been teetotal 5 months)..
