I loved these events in GT4, and I have managed in the past do create similar races in Forza 3's online mode using time delayed starts and different classes. However, apart from some of the license tests, there is nothing like this yet in GT5, especially not online.

I want to do some testing to see if something like this would be possible to set up as a common type of online race (even if it was only me hosting). So I opened up a room called 3 Lap Magic Open Test in the Open Lobby, but nobody has joined yet. Anyone interested?

The plan is to have everyone pick any car, either really slow, really fast, or somewhere in the middle, an do some laps on the track (which is currently Tsukuba) before the race starts. I'd ask that they log their best times and tell me what their fastest times are, then I would calculate how much of a time advantage each person would need to make the end of the race close. For example, I would tell one person to start when the race starts, and another person in a slightly faster car to start 31 seconds in, etc.

Obviously, this kind of thing would be prone to cheaters who just want to get the most money, but for people who find these races fun, it could really be an interesting type of lobby to take part in, and it might make the online mode more interesting. If it gains popularity, PD may (however unlikely) find a way to implement it into the official online race modes. Who knows. Who cares. Anyone interested?

Edit: I decided it would be better, if interested, to add me and join me in my lobby. PSN: dylansan

Edit2: Moved to General GT5 Forum as it's not really a spot race or racing series. If a mod has a better idea of where this should go, feel free to move it.

Edit3: Moved to Interest Checks since I guess that's probably the most accurate place for it. It doesn't seem to be getting much attention no matter where I put it though. :p

I posted a thread wanting to set up something like this some time ago and got literally no responses at all. I'm very interested in this if enough people can be gathered to do it. It would take some work to get it all set up right for sure, but I think it sounds like great fun.

I'll send you a friend request. Ar you available to do some testing now? My lobby is open.

Cool 👍 I'm getting ready to walk out the door in just a minute for a football preseason party but I'm available almost any other time to do this. Hopefully tonight won't be a waste.... the Bengals pretty much suck to root for.

EDIT: I'm happy to say that tonight it was good to be a Bengal Fan.

I can open my lobby again now, but it would just be me since no one on my friends list is available at the moment. Anyone interested please post or send me a FR.

I just tried to join your testing room, but it timed out twice. I'm gonna clear my cache and check my connections and try again. Hopefully I'll be in the lobby in just a sec.

EDIT: Well, with completely stock c2 Corvette I am posting times of 1:13. xx for slightly drifty laps and 1:14.xx-1:15.xx for clean laps. Oh, you just showed up. lol

Well, we can't possibly be the only ones interested in this. Come on guys, if you enjoyed these in GT4 they're so much more fun in GT5 online, but it's more fun with more people, Even if you don't want to help with testing, just post so I know how many will be interested later.

Yeah I can't believe that no one else would want in on this. When we tested, it definitely proved it's pretty easy to stagger the cars launches after just a few qualifying runs to get first lap and average lap times, and then just do the math. It was challenging to catch you and the replays show that you were going at it pretty hard too, so that is awesome. I was actually pretty proud of my 1:10 lap. It was cool to watch too. :) It's just what I wanted to see happen but on a smaller scale. I don't doubt one bit that we could run the 787B vs. a full grid on a longer track and have it work out well and be exciting all the way to the end.

We just need more people.
So come on folks
We need drivers and cars of all speeds to do this thing right.

Who wants to be a hero?
