I loved these events in GT4, and I have managed in the past do create similar races in Forza 3's online mode using time delayed starts and different classes. However, apart from some of the license tests, there is nothing like this yet in GT5, especially not online.
I want to do some testing to see if something like this would be possible to set up as a common type of online race (even if it was only me hosting).So I opened up a room called 3 Lap Magic Open Test in the Open Lobby, but nobody has joined yet. Anyone interested?
The plan is to have everyone pick any car, either really slow, really fast, or somewhere in the middle, an do some laps on the track (which is currently Tsukuba) before the race starts. I'd ask that they log their best times and tell me what their fastest times are, then I would calculate how much of a time advantage each person would need to make the end of the race close. For example, I would tell one person to start when the race starts, and another person in a slightly faster car to start 31 seconds in, etc.
Obviously, this kind of thing would be prone to cheaters who just want to get the most money, but for people who find these races fun, it could really be an interesting type of lobby to take part in, and it might make the online mode more interesting. If it gains popularity, PD may (however unlikely) find a way to implement it into the official online race modes. Who knows. Who cares. Anyone interested?

It's just what I wanted to see happen but on a smaller scale. I don't doubt one bit that we could run the 787B vs. a full grid on a longer track and have it work out well and be exciting all the way to the end.
