This is a copy of a post I made on the official forums, figured I'd share it here too.

Hi all,

Just hit 1000/1000 Gamerscore and wanted to post some thoughts folllowing my completion. This is something I did for Forza Motorsport 6 as well, along with other non-Forza titles on other forums.

Overall I have enjoyed my time with Forza Horizon 3; I can tell that Playground Games wanted to emphasise 2 key things when developing this title: Fun and Freedom. I had plenty of both and there are a few things in here that the Motorsport series can learn from in the future. Below are the things that stand out for me:

Co-Op Campaign
This was a more enjoyable feature than I was expecting, and completely changed the Single Player experience. Making progress on my Single Player while racing with friends and talking over Party Chat is a good way to spend an evening. It is the "shot in the arm" that Single Player needed and I hope it becomes a permanent feature in future titles.

Horizon Blueprint
I like that I can race whatever I want, wherever I want and still have those races count towards my progress. It was fun to try out the custom events that others created and make a few of my own. I never felt pressured to own a certain car at any point and could simply continue driving the cars I enjoy most.

General Career Structure
The Single Player Campaign is a breath of fresh air compared to Forza Motorsport 6. I liked the fact that I didn't have to win or get a podium to progress through every race. That encouraged me to up the Drivatar difficulty to Unbeatable and really challenge myself. If I won, great, but if not I didn't feel like the time was wasted as I was still making progress. I also liked that Drivatars matched their PI to whatever car I was driving, and that I was competing in an actual Championship each time instead of a strong of slightly related races.

The Storefront
As a painter this is a key feature that I am glad to see return. It made finding high quality paints and tunes a lot easier than relying on the cumbersome Recommended system. Hopefully it becomes a permanent feature in future Motorsport and Horizon titles.

Horizon Edition Cars
"Unicorns done right". Rare cars that everybody knows about ahead of time, and can be relatively easy to obtain through chance or some money-saving.

The pace at which Credits were earned
Forza Motorsport 6 may as well have not had any economy at all; CR was so easy to come by that the cars became disposable items. Forza Horizon 3 fixes this by dishing out a moderate stream of income; enough to afford most cars with ease while also making the process of saving up for a highly valued car (like the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale) actually mean something and give those cars the sense of value that they deserve.

In terms of negatives there's not a whole lot for me to complain about. If I were pushed for an answer I would say the stand-out thing was the apparent "cheatiness" of Drivatars (rubber-banding, cutting checkpoints etc.) but other than that the only things I wasn't a fan of came down to personal preference and aren't worth focusing on.

With the game now complete it now becomes an addition to the "fun games to try out when bored" folder. For all it's good qualities Forza Horizon 3 doesn't have that year-long appeal to me that I can get out of a Motorsport title. The Multiplayer is too casual and repetitive for me despite how fun it can be at times. That's just a personal preference however, and not a fault of the game itself.

I'll hang around the forums for a while, join the occasional live stream session and participate in a few more Forzathons. I may even check out the expansions if there's enough content to sink my teeth into. Other than that, it's been fun and I'm curious to see how the next Motorsport title turns out. There are some things I would like to see but I know where the Wishlist threads reside

So yeah; kudos to the developers for making an enjoyable driving game, it was fun

Congrats PJ, I'm glad you started this thread to share a rare and insightful post game perspective and not just to boast and make us feel jealous. (Although I am a little jealous.)
