I have noticed a few people who claim to have 100% win ratios in GT3. I don't disbelieve them, but I must ask the question, what is the point in that??

As a devout follower of the :gt: series, I am aware of GT's 'open secret': that you 'choose' how hard to make your races by selecting an appropriate car. Hence, a 100% win ratio suggests that these people are missing the point of the game entirely by always selecting a car that is going to win.

Sure, 10 wins out of 10 races is OK, but 500 from 500?? Some of my best memories of GT (esp. GT3) involve 10 race series where the competition comes down to the last race, e.g. I won the Japanese GT series in the Professional League by 2 points... that sort of adrenaline just doesn't come when you race a 787B against everything! :)

I'd like to see some examples of everybody's race/win ratio to prove that my GT3 ethos is correct. My ratio is a steady 61% at the moment... what that says to me is that I like to race more than I like to win, but I prefer to win a bit more than I lose!! :)

My win ratio is over 80%. I did advance rapidly through the game with higher-powered cars, but that got quite dull, and so now I tend to shop for cars which are closer to the competition.

However, this can have its side-effects since the AI isn't necessarily terribly fair when it comes to racing. Certainly in a long race series, the decrement to your car's power that the AI does not suffer is an example of this.

I'm with you, Mars, and welcome to GTP! Good to see quality thought-provoking posts.

I don't even know what my win ratio is, because I don't care. It's somewhere in the ballpark of yours, because I quit races all the time if I don't find the match to be even (both ways). I too enjoy the racing aspect, not simply beating the game.

Giles, I also find the AI boost / my weardown highly annoying. However, I finally learned to sandbag extra parts at the start of the race that I can add midseries when the AI gets their special restrictor plates and magic tires.

There are certain people, like Road Hazzard, who have set out to make a 'perfect' game, which to him means a 100% win ratio, maximizing cars and cash won, while minimizing track days and cash spent. But no one will deny that he has put an inhuman amount of work into that project.

Ditto the comments!

I'm running at a very low win ratio... somewhere in the high 50s. I don't see what's accomplished by having a 100% win ratio, except for the fact that others will raise an eyebrow at one's remarks.

I'm currently running a 100% win ratio, all golds, through the iA and Rally races. However, I do a couple of things in pursuit of this to maintain the challenge.

1) No NA Tune or Turbo mods unless absolutely necessary

2) Reset, retune (usually transmission), and rerace as needed.

3) Avoid race cars unless facing race cars
3a) Use JGTC to face JGTC
3b) Use LM cars to face LM cars
3c) Use F1 *only* against F1 cars and then try LM cars first.

4) Win races closely. This is *much* harder to do in Professional League (pro being the easiest of all the leagues... go figure), but in Beginner & Amateur, I would rerace anything I won by more than 3 seconds/lap.

5) Buy all your cars unless absolutely impossible (can't buy a GT1 or F1 car) because this keeps your funds low and you'll have to race with less mods or you'll rerace constantly for funds.

6) Don't rerace for funds outside of the Beginner League.

That's how I maintain the challenge while keeping the 100% win ratio.

i've never stayed at 100% for too long, i usually get tired of restarting series after 20 - 40 days - there's really no need to keep it up, unless you're doing that "Perfect Game" thing. right now i'm on day 160, second trip, and my ratio is 92%.

Well, that all sounds pretty rigorous! I'm impressed that you're doing this and keeping a 100% ratio. WTG bwdemon!

I originally started out trying to not buy any cars except what was absolutely necessary, but I gave that up, and I admit to not being very worried about my win ratio.

My win ratio reflects the changes in attitude I've had throughout the game. Right at the start, when I wasn't very good, I would do anything for cash, even not win!

Then, when I got cash, I wanted to blow everything away. I wasn't happy if I didn't win by a lap or more.

Now I want a good race. I want to fight, but then to be about 15s clear about a lap from home, so I can luxuriate in my victory, but then my best ever was taking on Rome 2Hr in a stock Vanquish, and beating the Griffith by 10s!

I agree with most all of you. I set out, when I first bought GT3, to race and possibly beat the game. Throughout all least year, me and my friends in the dorms would try to get as far as we can, ex. overall percentage, win percentage, etc. Yet that does not give one complete satisfaction with the game, so about 75% through the game we decided to just have fun. Bought a lot of cars, set up drifting contests, tried drifting in pairs, etc. That was a lot of fun too. But to be completely satisfied with the game, you must almost love what you are doing. I personally have an awesome time just racing all the cars, good or bad at different tracks to get estimates of how each one handles and performs, etc., and just choosing basically a stock car to race the computer in the professional series. Sure it's extremely hard and frustrating at times because the computer never seems to pit, but after a while, you get good at the game and just enjoy racing. Thats where the fun is! I no longer am like really pushed to beat the game, I just race for the fun of it and kick the crap out of the occasionally noob in the dorms that thinks there all that! HAHA ; ]

I was at bout 75% complete b4 i restarted... my win ratio was at about 65%..... but it was on the increase. cause of the races i had left to complete mostly enduros i prolly would have blitzed them cause they take too long and i'd want them finished fast. I would have just picked my fastest car :/

the fun factor is in the under powered cars @ the begining and squeeeeezing them 4 what they r worth :D
hehehe

I'm of the opinion that GT3's "open-ness" is what has helped make it one of, if not THE best game ever.

What I mean is that the creators did a tremendously good job in allowing one to have any kind of experience they want from this game.

Looking for tight races? This game has 'em.
Looking for the quest of completion? This game has it.
Looking for loads of educational experiences? This game has MANY, and still only scratches the surface.
Looking for *FUN*??? Would we be doing what we do if we didn't have fun..??

When I first started playing GT3 back in early February '02, the game was a few Arcade Mode races and Complex String... That's all. Playing more got me more interested, more curious, and better-skilled at using the DS2 to "drive". And as I kept learning about the game, and kept learning about developing my skills, my goals for the game kept evolving.

So when I felt my goals for this game had matured, I made a commitment to play in a particular way that would leave me satiated in the end. Now, three months later, I have reached a major milestone. I still have a ways to go, even after hitting 100% for the first time... on my 3rd gamesave...

So we all have our own reasons for playing this game. There is no reason why one person cannot have just as much fun as another while doing so, despite having taken different paths. It makes me happy to hear that others have carloads of fun playing this game in a different way than me. If it weren't for people doing so, I wouldn'tve been able to do what I have done...

For me? There is no race. There is only pleasurable driving. The journey never ends...

My ghost is always on...

Have a great drive, everyone!!!

I know of 2 ways to get a 100% win ratio...

1. Win every race in which one enters.
2. Buy a GameShark and enter a code for a 100% Win Ratio.

I think #1 has some challenges in there, and I'm hoping my recent experiences will lend some credibility to this often debated issue. With what I've gone through, the biggest challenge with #1 is resisting the temptation to quit out, and/or quit racing. I've had to run a single race as many as *13* freaking times to get the results I desired (a particular prize car while maintaining a 100% win ratio). Was that (and many others) not a test of patience/determination/stamina? My thumbs would testify that it was.

At any time, I could've chosen to go with door #2, or simply go with some other conceeding result. But I knew ahead of time that it would be a challenge to NOT give in. What's done is done, and no one can take it away from me.

And I want to make it clear that I don't think getting 100% complete with 100% wins qualifies me as anything other than an "insanely dedicated GT3 player and fan"... Besides, I made sure I'd get a challenge from legitimately getting all golds for license tests... for the 2nd time (albeit, with NTSC/USA times).

Many of the challenges of learning the game, learning how to drive, using low-powered vehicles, etc, were overcome before I started my most recent quest. And even after finally hitting 100%, there are still a lot of things I want to do with this game.

And I'm gonna have fun doing it (as always).

Have a great drive, everyone!

Win ratios are pointless. Its all what car you pick, how often you save, and your willingness to reset a lot.

It has nothing to do with a driver's skill.

I have a win ratio of 58%, yet I have no trouble getting every gold license

I have been doing simmilar things to this, but alas I couldnt care less about my win ratio. Depending on the series I may start a series, realise my car is too powerfull, quit out and de-tune.

Example Pro FF cup deep forest reverse

Started out with a fully modded 1.6 vti Civic with around 300 bhp. Overtook almost everyone, barring the Beetle cup car on the first corner. I then managed to overtake the beetle midway through the first lap. Quit out, dropped the NA tune stage 3 and went down to stage 2 and had simmilar results. So I dropped it down to stage 1 giving me 225bhp, suddenly the AI became challenging and I was having to drive the car very hard to keep up with the beetle, unfortunately the damn beetle kept geting one corner wrong so I was always able to gain some time on him. I have done this allot through the tougher series and I have also been guilty of using the save and reload trick, which lowers your win ratio (but I prefer having cars rather than a high win ratio).

Seeing now as I have a save with all the specific cars I want, maybe in my next save ill try and gain 100% win ratio.

I've had to run a single race as many as *13* freaking times to get the results I desired (a particular prize car while maintaining a 100% win ratio).

Now thats dedication  I dont think I would have the patience to do that.

The Vanquish is MUCH heavier. Also, the Griffith is one of those cars that the game seems to make unreasonably fast.

My win ratio is 76% and im 100% compelete i guess that also suggest's that i like to race the competition ..

I love the pack racing everyone going at every single corner during a race

And most of the race's that i have won have been decided on the final straight ...it all just depends on how well the last corner was taken ..That my kind of racing ;)

Oh welcome to :gtp: Touring mars ;)
