This one's shaping quite nicely, with a provisional entry list of 60 cars, including:

18 LMP1
12 LMP2
14 LM GTE Pro
11 LM GTE Am
5 FLM

But most of all, the 1000 kms of Spa 2011 will be the inaugural race of the R18 TDI, and the first true race of the Aston Martin AMR-One, after what was basically a shakedown of the car at Le Castellet/Paul Ricard

Noted (and sorely missed) absence. The Highcroft car, second placed at Sebring and, as the AMR-One, a open LMP1 apparently capable of keeping up with the closed Peugeots and Audis.

The GT field also looks promising. all major players are there, and in this class also we will see the race debut of a new contender: the Lotus Evora.

Just as a reminder, last year Peugeot won and took also 2nd place, leaving to Audi the last place on the podium. LMP2 was won by the portuguese Quifel ASM Team. In GT2, the Team Felbermayr-Proton Porsche won, in front of the two AF Corse Ferraris (in 4th place a BMW, but as we know from Sebring, BMW is now a winning car).

2010 was a very eventful race, lots of mistakes from the top men, as you can see here:

MONTAGNY - PEUGEOT #2

What a terrible poster/flyer/whatever, probably the worst motorsports poster I've ever seen!

Awe..., I like Spa. I'd like to see that. It's just a shame that the Speed network has to fill so much of their schedule with non-racing instead of showing stuff like this or some of the dozens of other motorsports of the world.

Hopefully Aston Martin will get their act together .

To bad that it seems to be broadcasted on EuroSport this year, most likely they will just show little parts of the race live.

The BMW could well be a victor here. The car have shown its ability in Sebring and Long Beach so far... Their cars are not just fast, they also now have the reliability.

What's unfortunate is the TV broadcast. I might be watching it through Eurosport International and if they're showing the race only for the first and last 1 hour like last year then it'd be a shame...

To bad that it seems to be broadcasted on EuroSport this year, most likely they will just show little parts of the race live.

I'm not sure. They showed every minute of Le Mans, however they showed just 1hour of Daytona 24. I hope that they go all-out for this one. Otherwise I'll have to scour through the internet.:(

Mai=May. sorry for being that annoying guy, but I couldn't help myself.

Are the LMPs able to go flat out through Eau Rouge I wonder?

Aston Martin has decided to sit out of the Spa race and to focus on the car development-testing programme. Probably wise, after all the problems they had at Le Mans (Test Day).

Still ... a pity. However, can't wait to see if the R18 adds consistency to speed! And if it does, oh boy, the Lion cars will go to Le Mans licking their wounds and very, very low on confidence!

Ok, even if this was only the first free practise session ... I'm getting worried with Audi's dominance. Not that I am a Peugeot fan, far from it, but it really seems the R18 has all it takes to make a 1-2-3 at Le Mans next month.

Here's first practise times. The 3rd Audi had a problem in its flying lap and that's the only reason why they didn't get a 1-2-3 this time.

In LMP2 Strakka's HPD got 1st, in LM GT Pro it's a 458 Italia dominance so far, in LM GT Am we have two F430 followed by a Vette.

Another red flag. Peugeot 9 off in massive shunt.

Peugeot #9 was being driven by Pedro Lamy ... was the fastest Peugeot so far. Hope everything is alright ... :nervous:

Just in, from Peugeot Sport's twitter feed:

peugeotsport Peugeot Sport
Red Flag. Session will not restart. Collision between Pedro Lamy and two others car. Pedro is OK.

PS - FP2 ended with a cleansweep by Audi in LMP1 (1-2-3) and by Ferrari in GTE Pro (1-2-3). Imsa Matmut Porsche made p1 in GTE Am, followed by two F430s. In LMP2, P1 goes to Greaves Motorsports' Zytek, P2 for a HPD car and P3 for a Oreca Nissan.

Well, seems I'm heading for triple-posting now but this is relevant enough for a new post.

Short review of quali:

Audi makes 1-2-3 👍 👍 👍

Peugeot makes ... 13 👎 -18  -50

Considering how traffic and overtaking (and crashes) will be relevant for the outcome of this race, I think starting at the back will be a HUGE disadvantage (sorry my mistake. Ediited now :dunce: ). When the Peugeots get (eventually) rid of traffic I bet the Audis will be long gone already.

You can check what several drivers think about the importance of traffic at Spa, here: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/91180

Wow looking at the official results Audi have a huge advantage.
1. LMP1 Bernhard/Dumas/Rockenfeller Audi R18 TDI 2m01.502s
49. GTE A Krohn/Jonsson Krohn Ferrari 2m28.677s

That means that Montagny, Sarrazin and Minnasian have to be held up by cars over 25 seconds slower then them. Bad tactics by them for putting them out late. Ordonez's team, signatech are starting 12th and third in class. 👍

Wurz is on a mission! And so is McNish! Great racing so far, and the Peugeots seem to have found the speed they were lacking (or Audi is taking it easy ? )

Hmmm Peugeot seems very competitive...:)

Great battle so far.👍

"My goodness me!"

God bless John Hindhaugh!

The Peugeots and Audis are closer than I expected them to be. These 6 hours are going to be epic!
