I've left it paused at home after 20 of 25 laps of the ring.. Oh my word this is so much fun.. I'm using a Ginetta G4, with a stage one turbo (130bhp), and I'm battling to keep up with a Merc 300SL.. No Cobra in the mix, which completely ruined the races, last time I tried..

What other cars have people found to create a good fair contest, specifically for someone who hasn't got a lot of credits yet.. I need to be able to win the car easily, or be able to afford to buy it outright..

I searched and found a good thread on the 1000mile race, but it didn't discuss which cars were suitable, AND easy to obtain early on.. I think I won the ginetta easily enough, from some compact series, but are there any other cars that are fun to drive, elidgeable for these races, and easy to obtain?

I completed it with the mercury cougar that you get for completing the Super Licence. If you've done it already you should already have it if not then you might as well go and do the licence as you'll need it later on anyway.

Except that car is 400K+... hard to get early on. I used my mildly-tuned '69 Corvette. But you might as well give up on any race against the Cobra...

i'm going to use the ginetta for that weighs less than a sumo wrestler

Ive done it in the Ginetta (probably the easiest to get early on) and I'm currently doing it in the Skyline 2000GT-B that you win in the FR race in the beginner hall. Even though the Skyline only has a stage 1 turbo and sport suspension I'm able to lap the field a few times in each race. Of course, there are no heavy hitter in it like the Cobra etc (whew!!).

I completed it with the Karmann Ghia, NA (the turbo wasn't worth it) ...it lost out on long straights.
It felt good winning with just over 100bhp!

I'm planning on using my Shelby Cobra :).

I used that old Alfa Romeo sprint thing... the one you buy. Pretty good car, but impossible to win of a 300SL on the La Sarthe track.

i used my chevelle :p

i see a lot of people talk about the ginetta, am i the only one that thinks the breaks suck in that car even with upgrades?

I'm pretty suprised you think the ginetta has bad brakes, but you like the chevelle :) I'll try one of those next time..

Oh, And it's nice to see my first post to the forum hasn't slipped quietly to the bottom of the pile already :)

ginetta g4 does have crappy brakes. you'll notice that you can slam the brakes before a turn and not skid :) helps if you're not good with easing on the brakes

yea, i like the chevelle too.. cos its a big car, and compared to some of the other competitors in the 1000 miles thing, its a giant.. when you go alongside someone and the other cars only just reach above the wheel arches, its actually funny :-)

Used the '54 Vette, mildly modded (Race Tranny, Sport Exhaust, Brakes) in the sans-Cobra series...superb roadster!

I used the 300SL for the 1000 miles and then for the Liga A germans races too! Even bone stock I beat a Z4 and an Audi TT on trial mountain!!!!

I used the Cobra, fully modded. Even with another Cobra in there, I easily won every race. Just need to be careful of fuel consumption and tires. If you race too fast, the tires and gas mileage suffers. Good Luck!!!

I used the Camaro '70 the first time and the Buick Special '63 the second time. Both great cars although the Buick is problably the fastest oldie in the game. Kinda ruins the competition aspect of the race. But the car is just so damn beautiful and fast..

I found most of the old cars difficult to drive and just really sloppy (Makes sense), but when I got the Jag E-Type, boy was I impressed on how it handled. It beat the 1000 miles easily with only sport brakes...

I used the Jag E-type. Lovely ride.

i thought this was european cars only? maybe not...

anyways, used a slightly modded jag e-type that i won somewhere else. way too easy though.

You can back out of the race at the first lineup screen and re enter until the lineup you want appears.
I too like good racing and always back out if the game loads the cobra.

I used a Superbird with upgraded brakes, supercharger, and custom transmission. I won it in the Muscle Car Championship. For about 30,000 it was able to lay waste to even the AC/Shelby in all of the races. On the 'Ring straight, the Cobra would top out at like 140-150 and the Superbird would just power on at near 200

With an oil change the Jag hits 268Hp i think. Its really neutral in its handling and very forgiving.

I am just starting the 1000 miles in the mercury....I am winning on the 'ring so far yet i tend to mess up when coming into the pits. I mean when do you go into the pits? When the tires are red ? Or yellow? or what, i don't know and it could ruin my race. :scared: :)

i used the Chevelle also, did good.

I find that the (upgraded) Ginetta can brake pretty quickly, but I have to be pretty gentle with the brake pressure. I thinks it's actually a lot of fun to drive.

I used the Jag E-Type...man...gotta be my favourite car in the entire game.

I did the 'Ring yesterday...the main contenders were a 300SL and another E-type.

Did Paris today....no close match-ups whatsoever. I lapped the 500L 9 times. It was the Alpha Sprint in 2nd followed by the Carmen Ghia (sp?).

Cote De Azur looks to be a little boring IMO. I think I'm going to be B-Spec that.
Le Sarthe looks fun. can't wait to see the back-runners hitting the Rev limiter at extremely low speeds

I guess you drive with driving aids on...
