1080i won't save

I've got a 720p Samsung TV, and the 1080i works great with it. My problem is that it doesn't seem to save the 1080i setting. Every time I start the game, it's set back to 480i. So when I turn on my PS2 with GT4, I always have to set it to 1080i the first time I race.

Is this fixable, or is it just the way the game is?

I dont think you can go 720p OR 1080i with GT4...

You cannot save this setting, you have to set it to 1080i every time you start the game.

It's kind of a safety feature. Imagine you're playing in 1080i and the game is saved that way, but then your TV breaks or you take your PS2 & gamesave to a friend's house... You go back to playing on a TV not capable of 1080i output, if you started your GT4 game which was still set to 1080i output, you wouldn't be able to see anything to go in and set the output back to Normal or 480p and then you'd be stuck until you acquired a new TV with 1080i capability.
Yeah, it's a bit cumbersome to set it every time, but it does ensure you can always see the settings to begin with as every TV will support the normal output.
