Hey there :)

I am one of those people you see on the news, im 16, has a job but the pay and opportunities are poop. And 6 form is not for me. What I want to do is get a job or an apprenticeship somewhere, but there is no 'where'.

What should I do? I'm stuck and want to get somewhere.

May I add.. Any employers with opportunities in the north west of England or anywhere else that provides accompdation, drop me a pm ;)

Other than that....suggestions? :)

Depends on what you want to train as. British Gas has allot of apprenticeships to train as a gas engineer, you get trained to the full Gas Safe regulations.

Well there are several dealers I know  JK I don't do drugs.

Seriously though try going to the careers advice service or have you already done that?

well the one at school is like a chocolate fireguard  but I might give her another chance :)

A business apprenticeship? Sounds a lot like finishing school and getting a degree.

Apprentices are for trades, like what Sach listed. When you say "business," what do you mean? Sales, an executive position, run your own shop, what?

(And "business" people expect word's like "I'm" rather than "im.")

No there are business apprenticeships. BAE do one but I can't get there and its not exactly secure with then atm

What does that even mean? If you go into management, it's usually because you started as a skilled worker and then move up in abstraction of your duties. If you think you can start at that higher level of abstraction you're going about it the wrong way.

Please don't be one of those poor souls who go take a business management/administration degree and burn 80 grand for nothing.

No I don't intend on getting straight there. But at the moment I work at matalan. I don't want to be a manager at matalan. But there is nothing where I live that has prospects. I can't go to uni as im not allowed and don't want to do 6 form, I think its the wrong thing for me.

You won't get into management without experience or a relevant qualification. Getting into management at Matalan by working your way up will be a great help in getting into management in other jobs, especially other areas of retail.

Retail management is a good start because you'll learn to manage people, stock, and other aspects such as store layout, displays, etc.
You don't have to stay at Matalan, but I doubt you'd gain much by leaving and going elsewhere.

You only become a powerful businessman by school if you, (A) come out of Wharton, or (B) know people or meet the right people while getting your MBA.

Anything else is just working your ass off.

Wise words :D

But the who you know is important. Does anybody want to give me a good job?

Mate I was stuck in your position a week ago, just keep looking on the apprenticeship website, connextions etc its a tough world getting work for 16+ I got lucky, I have a job waiting for me as a roofer in May after my college course finishes, but only got it because my dad is a site manager & knows a lot of people.

Keep trying mate, something will pop up for you, I know it.

Unfortunately for you the easiest and quickest way to get to buisness management is studying sorry.

I want to go into business managment :)

So go to college or start your own company. Rich businessmen who did not finish high school were entrepreneurs and/or inventors. No one is just going to say "Hey this kid is 16 and too smart for school, let me personally teach him the inner workings of the business world." Unless of course it's a family member. Go find a rich father or uncle who owns their own business.

Isn't it hard to get into a business management other from in matalan unless you go into an university to learn how to run your own venture as others have pointed out?

To start your own business right after graduation of high school is too mature for you because you don't have enough knowledge as to the sense of launching projects in society or haven't gained any experience on the matter. :indiff:

You're 16. Deal with it until you can get an education and a better job. We all have to go through it.

Yellowbird- Nah I don't want to create/ set up my own business. What I want to do is run, well it is difficult to describe but in a sense it like, running a store/office (specifically where business related decisions etc are made :) ) etc. That what I want to do :)

Rossitcles- Please don't sugar coat it, give it to me how it is

Ellis, who you know may help, but the most important thing that you may have yet to learn is that of work ethic. A true work ethic. If you have an excellent die-hard work ethic naturally, that's great. If not you have some internal work first. You don't get "given" a good job, you earn it. You work your butt off in one way or another (inside a company or through college/interviews) to get to where you would like to be... or get to the next step along the way. Try to get what you want, but accept what you need along the way. (i.e.; don't pass up an acceptable job because you want something better that may or may not come)

Bottom line? Rely on "ol' numero uno" and go get what you want! 👍

More than a year on lets have a quick recap :D

I got an apprenticeship working at a local college on a level 2 business administration apprenticeship. Pretty basic stuff, filing, data entry. The usual.

That qualification was meant to last a year. I finished it in 2 months. Come ocotber they put me up, a promotion of sorts, to a level 3 apprenticeship. Through that I have developed new systems at the college I work at, improved attendance, presented very sucessfully to the senior managers of the college and many other things.

And now I have just been hired by somewhere else in the college as a level 4 apprentice, university level. Working in a job role which will allow me to work with employers and work on individual level. But here is the best thing, on a european level. I get to travel abroad doing this qualification and earn money all while doing it. I am the first ever level 4 apprentice for the college and the only one I have heard of in the local region

Working my ass of has got me here so yay.

Oh and I have been shortlisted to go to a regional judging panel for nationwide higher apprentice of the year!

Success!
