I searched the GT5 Tuning thread for words on this car but found nothing that addresses the problem I've encountered. My car sputters. I know that sounds simplistic. But, here's what I can remember on relevant upgrades:

- I've tried all exhaust types
- It has a stage 1 engine upgrade.
- Supercharger is bolted on (if it's available I put it on the car)
- 5 speed tranny
- Modified intake with racing air filter installed.
- fully upgraded clutch and flywheel plus all other available power-train related upgrades are installed

The car is not making the sounds of a Japanese racer that the GT350 is making (if you've heard it you'll know what I mean). The Mach I sputters, on asphalt at all speeds, as if one of the cylinders is down or as if the engine has a blown manifold gasket.

I use a set of Turtle Beach headphones with the sound set to living room settings in the hardware options menu. I play with the sound level set to less than half way to max level. It's not a blown speaker issue (considered this already).

Any help? Thanks.

The sputter is the kind that sounds like the engine is choking down or losing power because of some kind of mechanical failure.

Sounds like you have this car? If so, what upgrades that could affect the sound have you installed on it?

I have this car and got in tuned to just under 600HP but as soon as I won that Buick 62 special I quit fooling with this car:lol: My car Mack 1 makes the same sound, nothing is wrong with your car, it just tops out early on speed, not a very fast car at all. As with most muscle cars, excluding the Buick:)

Glad to hear it. I like my Special as well. But, I'd like to get the Mustang sorted so I could at least enjoy some cruising with it in practice mode.

@ sleazybig
with custom transmission you can almost put top speed at max and still have enough beef to get up there at a competitive rate.

@OP
If you have your audio set on Living Room or Small Theater, there's a pretty ugly limiter used to keep the engine in the right -db range. Very lazy of the devs tbh. It basically chops off the head of the volume instead of just lowering the levels, or even slightly compressing them. Put the setting on large theater and you should notice a HUGE change to how the car sounds

I've fully tuned my mach 1 to 734bhp and it sounds beautiful from the exterior view, although when you use the cockpit view it sounds really shrilled and high pitched..kinda lame.

@la_cons

The sound you hear is directly based on the position of the camera. If you were sitting in the driver's seat the engine in the front would sound much louder than the meaty exhaust, if you could even hear it at all over the roar of the high rpms.
You'll also notice that the actual volume level of the engine sounds is also quieter inside the car, as it would be in real life. They really took car to make sure that no matter what view you used, it sounded like you were listening from the camera's perspective.

I suppose the engine noises for the Muscle cars aren't going to be as easy to develop as the Japanese/European models due to the complexity of getting an old school V8 rumble. I think the Shelby Cobra is one of the best sounding V8's in the game

Inside views are ruined because of the gearbox whine and intake sounds. The gearbox/intake should definitely be heard but they need to increase the exhaust note for the bumper and cockpit views badly!

Well...

Sounds pretty dang close don't you think? I've got I THINK all exhaust upgrades, stage 1 NA and the blower.

@HurlingDervish

Yeah I'm aware the sound changes depending on the camera angle...but the inside view doesn't sound as nice as it should...my dad has a 68 mustang and you can most definitely hear (and feel) it rumble when you're sitting inside it, whereas in gt it doesn't sound like a rumble at all..

the 5 speed close ratio tranny is probably a racing tranny with straight cut gears....

Listen to a straight cut transmission on youtube. awesome sound.

take the tranny out put it to stock and see if you hear the noise.

That sounds good to my ears. But, it is not the sound I hear from mine. Maybe it's my stereo headphones instead of PD's reproduction.

@ HurlingDervish: What you said sounds reasonable. I may not have the sound equipment to get the sound PD intended in this case. Although, some other V8's sound passable. The Mach I just doesn't come through right.

That Mustang is soooo close in sound to a real worked Cleveland V8. All 90 degree crank V8's "sputter" because they do not fire evenly from one bank to the other, this gives you twice a rev an event where two cylinders fire one after the other on the same bank which to the exhaust system and human ear becomes one large pulse, this is what gives V8's their pleasing grumble note. It's also why X pipes in the exhaust work so well on V8's as you need to separate the large pulse to get good flow.

The flat crank V8's in Ferraris which fire evenly and sound totally different to the typical V8, they sound very smooth and as if they are revving much higher than they are (compared to a normal V8) because you are able to hear each individual pulse. Anyway there's nothing wrong with the sound of that Mustang in the game, it's very very good, pity not all the V8 cars are as good in the sound department as the Mustang

Ok, I spent most of my GT time last night swapping parts on the car in practice mode. I had a couple of things wrong from the start - I've already upgraded the motor with the 3rd upgrade and I had not purchased the sports exhaust system. In the end it did not matter as I settled on the full titanium exhaust package.

What I did find out is that it is the semi-titanium exhaust that causes the "missing" sound I kept hearing. Once I changed that to any other exhaust type, the sick sound went away. Sorry for not explaining the sound issue better. I just don't know the words to use to describe accurately what I was hearing.

I tried stock, sports, and full titanium and they all worked pretty good for me. In the end, it's between the sports and full titanium systems as to which one pleases my ear the most.

One thing I did as a result of this discussion was to methodically go through swapping equipment off the car for stock counterparts one at a time in an attempt to isolate the source of the bad sound. And, when I say bad sound I mean the sound I didn't like. I realize everyone hears sounds differently and the sound I don't like might be music to another's ears.

The video helped a ton, by the way. I used it as a reference to be sure I wasn't just missing something. Once I heard it and then sat down and swapped exhaust types, things sort of fell into place. So, thanks a ton for the assist. Thanks everyone.
