I've done a quick search but got no answers. Okay, this is about the 1973 Jensen Healey Interceptor. It states that it has a FR-drivetrain. However, it doesn't oversteer or act like a normal FR vehicle. You see, my style of driving changes from car to car and I was expecting this car to drive like an FR car should but instead, it felt more like I was driving an FF car. It virtually impossible to oversteer, it's a very heavy one too. Is this the reason why? Because of the weight?

This is one of my fave cars of the game: I have 8 of them:P

First off it's an old fashioned GT with relatively simple suspension, a big heavy lump in the front, and tyres with relatively low grip. 👎

These low grip tyres need a bit of help to turn that big heavy lump at the front, so you have to be gentle with the steering and "encourage" it round the corner, rather than just throwing it in. Full lock straight off will only give you understeer.:scared:

Secondly its big handicap is the three speed gearbox: give it an FC tranny, autoset 19, (which gives a 4th gear at c.1:1) and the car is transformed, much more lively and much quicker accelerating. As a bonus top speed goes up outrageously to about 175mph!!! You can now oversteer at will out of 2nd gear bends....:sly:

Oh, and I'm assuming you've turned off the driving aids...

No other tuning is necessary, and just changes the charcter of this fabulous GT.

Hope this helps,;)

At UKGTP4 one of the cars was the Jensen - and driving aids are banned.

I assure you it does oversteer, quite a lot, and is responsible for some new corner names at Deep Forest courtesy of sukerkin. These names include Turn 1 "Whoooooooagh!", Turns 2/3 "Yi-yi-yi-yi-yi-yi!" and Turn 4 "Nnnnnnnnn!".

:lol::lol: That's one for my sig!!!:lol::lol:

Over 350bhp looks good for such an old car until you realise it maxes out at 150

I love my Interceptors :) , and like Fast Eddie, I have a lot of them. (one in each color!) I love its lazy Chrysler V8 that just melts the tires at any RPM in any gear. And I love its old-school handiling and looks. What I don't like is there's no Jensen FF. :(

What confuses me is how PD didnt include the 4WD version, since it was one of the first production 4WD cars.

I guess once aids are off it will oversteer - but I am not surprised you thought it understeered. I was profusely irritated when I drove the Lotus Carlton, and had to go down to N3's to get the back end out. It's a 300+bhp, RWD tank, it should oversteer. *continues crusade against PD for putting in too much understeer*

(ever noticed how cars with a driven front axle (FF/4WD) have TCS at 7 default, compared to 5 for RWD?)

Yes it would have been nice for them to have modeled the Jenson FF (first 4WD car (excluding jeeps etc) with ABS) into the game as it is a nice peice of Automotive history. Maybe the Interceptor III was at the right place at the right time so it got included.

just noticed something, been doing a "trackday" or practice with a standard RS6 and in a straight line, the jenson can keep up with it maybe even just a little faster on the top end

Oh, and the Interceptor's got a Mopar 440 cu-in V8. It's similar to the one the '70 Charger has, in fact, the one with the single 4bbl.

It's size would even suggest that it's a coachbuilt B-Body, but I'm sure that's not the case.

I put Mopar Ralleye wheels on mine. Looks sharp.

Sorry to go off topic, but doesn't the Lotus Carlton look exactly like an old Holden Commodoore? Or are my eyes deceiving me? Sure doesn't drive like one though. :(
I've no idea how it doesn't get loose in the rear...

I hate the Jensen for the same reason, I don't like a car to have any noticeable understeer whatsoever.

Lotus Carlton = Vauxhall Carlton = Opel Omega = GM = Holden.

The only difference between a Vauxhall Carlton/Opel Omega and a Lotus Carlton/Omega is the fact that Lotus went to work on it, so all the greasy bits are mental.

Never heard of it... Looks like a South American market thing to me - though it is exactly the same car.

No oversteer my eye!

Vonie, the scary thing about that photo is that it's the same colour as my one in Gran Turismo 4. Looks to me like that's the 4WD version though.

Yes like Famine said they are all based off the same platform. I have read once that the Carlton actually uses a Commodore V8 SS differential as they needed something stronger.

Thanks Famine, thats what I assumed, I'd just never thought that chassis could even slightly handle like that Lotus... It surely must be exagerrated by PD... It's as if the stability management is turned on all the time, even when its not. :yuck:

The Lotus Carlton was tuned by Lotus, what are Lotus well known for doing an outstanding job of on a car? Giving a car outstanding handling potential. Put two and two together and I see no reason not the believe the Carlton was a truely great handling car. Also bear in mind, the Lotus Carlton was a beter performance car, by a good margin, than the BWM M5 of the time, and it was the fastest 4 door car ever when it came out.

still is iirc :)

What about E60 M5 and Bentley Flying Spur (yes and others)? I know they are quicker in a straight line, I would think atleast the E60 M5 is quicker on most tracks also.

e60 M5 nop carlton is still faster cause the M5 is limited to 155 ;)

doh forgot about the flying spur :dunce:

I have a friend who has a lotus carlton and yes it drives fantastic, but if you want it to it will oversteer with out any effort and in the wet you spend your whole time looking out of the side windows. So i thought i'll have one in gt and was very dissapointed, bit of a boat really and it is nothing like that at all:grumpy:
