The Shelby Charger was a modified 1980s Dodge Charger. Carroll Shelby had tuned the Dodge Omni-based Charger for Dodge from 1983 1/2 to 1987, with the resulting car sold as the Dodge Shelby Charger. When the Charger was discontinued, Shelby bought the last 1,000 and replaced the fuel intake and engine management system with the same high-performance one used in the 1986 Shelby GLHS. It had a blow-through long runner 2-piece intake, modified turbocharger (reclocked with a different compressor cover), and was intercooled. This engine was rated at 175 hp (130 kW) and 175 ft·lbf (237 N·m) of torque from 2400 rpm to 4800 rpm. This was similar to the Turbo II engine used in various Chrysler vehicles, but the Turbo II used a forged crank, as opposed to a cast one, and a stronger Getrag A555 5-speed manual transmission was used in place of the A525. The GLHS still came equipped with the rod linkage a525 transmission however. Shelby also changed the struts/shocks with Koni adjustable units, wheels from his own wheel company (Centurion 2's), and high performance Goodyear Eagle GT tires. His modifications prompted the federal government to declare the car a Shelby model. The trademark Dodge appears nowhere on the car, unlike its 5-door L-Body sibling, the GLHS Omni, which does have the Dodge nameplate. Shelby Chargers were built at Chrysler Belvidere Illinois assembly plant, with the GLHS models in 1987 being built at the Whittier, California plant of Carroll Shelby.

I thought I would add this, as I had no idea about the car. Maybe others didn't either.

It seems too cheap at the advertised price = a bargain.

I'd love one of these, as they're becoming quite rare now.

I had a 1988 Shelby Turbo Z, white with T-Tops. Quick car, and I found a lot of MOPAR performance parts for it in my local wrecking yard (which was owned by my friends dad, therefore, whatever fit in my pocket was free...so I went there wearing hammer pants). The downside of it was the engine and its notorious addiction to blowing head gaskets. After blowing 3 in one year, I said F'it and sold it too a guy who tore out the engine for his Omni. I miss driving it, especially in the summer with the T-Tops off, but I really don't miss the problems that came with it. Everytime I think of buying another one I just think of all the times it sat in the driveway half torn apart and snap myself back to reality. :lol:

Sad thing about that is that now days a good aftermarket head gasket and a set of ARP head studs probably would have solved that problem. 👍

Yeah, a couple of years after getting rid of it someone finally made a gasket specifically for the 2.2 turbo to prevent/stop the issue. Most mechanics blame the iron block/aluminum heads combo of the 2.2, but I suspect theres other factors involved as the standard 2.2 found in the Omni/Horizon and K cars didn't suffer from the problem as much as their forced induction brothers.

The Honda fan club has sort of fizzled out as most members have moved on to other brands. I just haven't been bothered to update my signature since the thread was deleted.

Not really, the price currently listed doesn't match the reserve(which we don't know). If it doesn't reach that amount it doesn't sell.


Side note: I saw one of these the other day, it was in horrible shape, poor thing.
 
I bet it blows smoke though, it just doesn't have enough miles on it.
The first 6 years of it's life it had only 197 miles on the clock.
All the seals in the engine really hate being cold for long periods of time.
The only thing that could save it, is, if it was started on a regular basis.

As good as the car looks for having low mileage, I think it's a pity they garage them.

Oh, Justin, I realize that the bidding will rise, and everyone wants to get anything as cheap as possible,
but the fact that it isn't already over $20k is suprising to me.
There was only 1000 Shelby's made, according to WIKI, and the last of them too.
It has risen $600 since this morning though.
 
I had a silver version of this car. 2.2L.turbo, 5 speed,these cars hauled ass.I really loved it,but I ended up selling it for a good profit. Nice cars indeed.
 
Don't know if it was there before, but it looks like it has a buy it now price of $16,500.

Wow. I love the cars, but unless I was a collector, I wouldn't pay that price. Although, I think I wouldn't buy the car unless I was going to keep it in top shape and store it most* of the time.

*Cars like that were made to be driven, and I think I'd have too many urges to not take it out atleast once a week in the summer months.
