I did a search and didn't find anything about this Review on the forum. I hope this is new. If not, please delete or lock the thread. :scared:

Anyway, here's the link:
1UP.com GT4 Import Review

1UP gave GT4 a 9.0 rating. Don't get me wrong, 9.0 is a good score. But after looking up the rating they gave PGR2 on their site, I was a little confused. PGR2 got a 9.5 (review found here ). My question is: was PGR2 really that good? or is GT4 just not good enough :scared:
I sense a lack of consistency in the ratings, perhaps its just me...

Note: I have not played either games, so I can't speak from my own experience.

Either they count on-line heavily or they rate a game not comparing them to games on other platforms (both occur and are plausible in their own right).

maybe because its japans version of the game and some stuff they don't understand.

They more than likely don't compare X-Box games to PS2 games and so on, PGR2 is a 9/10 game for X-Box, on PS2 it probably wouldn't get as high a score with the extra competition in the racing genre for the PS2.

I can't believe they only gave it a 9.0 especially after reading the closing paragraph.

"If all this sounds overwhelming, that's because, frankly, it is. There is no arguing the appeal of online racing, but neither does its absence here prevent getting completely lost in the Gran Turismo world. Much as the second version created a benchmark for aspiring racing games, this forth entry defines the standard by which any motoring life simulation will be judged. The only words that appear during that breathtaking opening video are "The drive of your life". We agree."

I suppose the ratings are platform specific. They should really explain their ratings though

Famitsu gave GT4 39/40

Is there a link to the Famitsu reviews? or do they not post them on the website?

Are u kidding. Xbox for racing is like PS2 for RPGs. It doesnt the best one but it has a lot lot of good ones. *Goofy Smile*

Although I *really* love GT4 from what I've played up untill now (extensive playtime in Prologue PAL, BMW demo, Japanese demo and quiet some time in a September Beta version), and think it's way better and challenging physics wise then PGR2, I did love PGR2 to bits.

Why? Because completing the Kudos World Series on all platinums was an downright evil thing to do and incredibly satisfying once pulled off. The physics are a lot more advanced then PGR1's, but still maintain a very arcadey side to them. The KWS was almost undoable frustrating at times. At first I hated doing the cone challenges, but where I hated em in PGR1 for the crappy physics, it was just because I sucked in PGR2. Untill I tried, and tried. And started loving the game more. And started pulling in all those platinum medals.

Anyhow, it is completely, really completely, different from Gran Turismo. Some hated it, I loved it (wasn't a big fan of PGR1 though). I'd rate PGR2 a 9.3 or so, even after over a year. And GT4 will probably be more in the 9.7 / 9.8 direction if i'd have to give a real verdict on it. From what i've played with it untill now, and taking in account what is possible with it (tracks, game modes, challenges, cars, etc). The most important things are nailed, such as the physics, sound, graphics and atmosphere. After tomorrow i'll start learning if all the details in GT4 are as amazing as I hope they are..

What did they give the last GT3.

Wow, 9.0 talk about a biased review... 1up suckks.
Uhm wtf? Since when is a 9 out of 10 low? Or did you mean it's too high?.. Or am I making a fool out of myself because you were being sarcastic?

IGN is more fair. Does any other racing game on Xbox, GT4, PGR2 have such realistic physics and such a huge range and total of cars and still have a lot of tracks including a few legendary ones NO. I will get PSM2 soon (UK PS2 mag) and will report on their previw/maybe even review on the PAL copy.
