We're all familiar with Bugatti, Porsche, Ferrari, McLaren, Pagani and Koenigsegg. Some of the top supercar makers. But there is now 2 new supercars on the way and from "Down Under". That's right, these new cars are coming from Australia. So what can we expect from a country that has never made a supercar? Well this.

The first offering is the Joss JP1. The plan is to build 25-100 a year but they will cost around the $500,000AUD mark going face to face with the Ferrari 358 Italia and the McLaren MP4-12C. But this new car is being said to do 0-100km/h(0-60mph) is less than 3 seconds. The creator, Matt Thomas, believes that the fastest car in the world is the fastest car to go round the Nurburgring, so he is obsessed with making this thing as good on track than it is on paper.

Here's what it looks like.

The second offering is the HAL Giocattolo. The creator, Paul Halstead, has tried to get his brand into the supercar world before, back in the late 80's but it didn't go well. The car was called the Giocattolo(the new car may carry the original nameplate). It had Alfa underpinnings and an engine from GM Holden. In 3 years he only sold 15 and saw closure of the company. Now he's back. The new car is scheduled for its launch in 2016 but here's what I can tell you. It's going to have 2 of GM's LS7 V8's turned over by 45 degrees to create a 14 litre W16 which is said to produce 1200bhp or more, more!

Here's the prototype drawing.

What do you think of an Australian supercar?

I wont believe in a production version of the Joss until a model is actually seen on the road. This project has been in the concept stages for, what, 10 years now?

They don't look very nice and they probably won't perform very nice.

That being said, it would be interesting to see what they can achieve.

1st one- fastest car lol, the Ariel atom is street legal and can go from 0-60 in 2.5s. And does well around tracks but I like the design of the first one.

I don't believe a word these guys say until I see a real prototype and some real numbers.

I think it means fastest defined by the shortest possible time around a toll road in germany?

If so, its difficult to see it beating the P1, if the Mclaren numbers are actually true.

So a rendering and a drawing. Since we're on meaningless fantasies, I'm totally releasing my own super car as well, all I need is a way to engineer and build the thing. Minor stuff.

The only good thing about the Joss is that they're still at it. But, seriously, that thing was reported be ready for production in the last 3 years.

I would love to see an Australian supercar, but wake me up when one actually goes into production.

Lol, wut? Yeah right.

Everyone who is creative has to eat. so, i'm not shooting down these creators' dreams. I'd prefer if these Aussie companies made a race car. A small 4door touring car. A V8 Supercar type car. something other than a typical "supercar". A car that claims to be faster around Mount Panorama than a current V8 Supercar. then make road versions that, with slicks, can still be as fast. all the car needs for comfort are usb/aux ports and light weight speakers, interior suspension control(like Tein suspension) and a tablet as the navi screen.

Make something like the Prodrive P1 or ARTA Garaiya instead of having to be the fastest around the ring. does it matter? Gordon Murray already did the fastest. everyone played catch up after that. it's like building another Burj Khalifa all over again.

It sounds ridiculous. Maybe I should make my own too, i'll give it the generic supercar look like all the others, combine two F6 Typhoon motors to make an 8 litre twin turbo v12, give it a metallic green paintjob with gold wheels and call it the "Straya GT":lol::lol::lol::lol:

What are the chances do you think they'll be just as good as the current range high performance exotica, do you think?

I like the concept of the Joss JP1, because it's meant to compete with cars like the 458 and made for the track. A GT3 or GTE platform isn't ruled out this way and I find this a lot more appealing than a Hypercar with 1200 HP we will never see in a competitive race.
