2 Player battle split screen display issues

I'm trying to do 2p battle with a friend locally but when we start the races there is no hud. We've raced plenty of times before, but for some reason tonight we are having a problem. I've tried looking in the options for something that may have been changed but so far i cannot find anything that will turn the hud back on in 2p battle mode. Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it?
 
Yup, I have the same problem. Sadly can't find a fix other than just reloading the session again and again - and even that doesn't work all the time.

Although there is already a thread on this issue in the GT5 Question & Answer section.
 
It is a ridiculous bug that needs fixing, earlier all I had was fastest lap and the wet track percentage thing which is pointless, it makes using manual very difficult as well especially if one of the cars is louder than the others.
